Morrisons do a shirt laundering service, 5 shirts for £5, but although we have one in Bideford, my working hours would make it a bit awkward. Plus it would seem like wanton extravagance.

I did suggest to "himself" that he looked to see if there was a branch he might pass on the way home, drop them off, then pick them up all done on the way back! Didn't get a very positive response !

My son in law irons one for himself every day!!!! I think the younger generation do

Even my ex ironed his own shirts!

My grandson irons a shirt every morning and he leaves the house by 7.10.

I once gained huge kudos with my DS and his 2 housemates by ironing 17 shirts for them after we'd been on a weekend visit and found said shirts washed and dry but very creased, hanging in their kitchen. The problem for me was their iron, which would not get properly hot and therefore would not steam. It was a nightmare but I still relish the gratitude of those lovely boys! My feat was even mentioned by one of them, acting as DS's Best Man, at his wedding!

Lona not at all, in fact he has spent a fair bit of time this week cooking and freezing meals in suitable quantities for one, i.e. ME ! He's a damn good chap. He brings me a cup of tea each morning and more often than not sorts out my lunch, either making sandwiches or bunging stuff into containers so that I can microwave it at work.

The drive home each Friday will probably take him around 4 hours, depending on traffic, he will be leaving early on the Monday, so I'm hardly likely to make him do his own laundry, besides it wouldn't be exactly cost effective.

Perhaps you missed or misunderstood the bit about living away during the week? He will be living in a B&B, no access to a washing machine unless he goes to a launderette, which seem to be a rare thing these days!

Well, one of you will have to do the ironing, phoenix - not sure what you want us to say!

I was going to suggest that you tell him that 'necessity is the mother of invention' but after reading how wonderful he seems to be in other ways I think you had better just get on with the ironing !

In many ways I think I have the better end of it, at least I will be in my own home, can do as I want, when I want (outside of working hours, obviously) whereas being stuck in a B&B with bedroom and (hopefully) ensuite bathroom would drive me mad.

It's the little things really, if I decide I want a bowl of cereal or some cheese and biscuits at 8pm, I can have them. If you are staying away, you can't. You have a room, no fridge, no store of comestibles in the cupboard etc.

Most of us would do the same Phoenix.hope it works out well.

Congratulations to MrP told you this was going to be your year I wash DH shirts then put them straight on a hanger to dry and they iron really easy.

So really, we should be sympathising with DH, not you!

10 shirts , leave dirty ones to be washed when possible and 5 to be taken with him , result no waste of precious time together at weekends

In those circumstances phoenix, I think you should wash and iron his shirts, and make him as happy as possible in the time available!

I can see that Mr P definitely deserves to have his laundry done for him! Just a thought... but maybe eventually you could have two 'sets' of shirts so that Mr P brought a used set home on a Friday night and swapped them for the pristine set you had prepared earlier? This way you would not waste your precious weekend time together loading and unloading the washing machine and dashing away with the smoothing iron... Investing in 5 extra shirts isn't exactly a fun way to spend money but it would mean more weekend leisure time, less stress getting the laundry turned round for Monday morning and (eventually) probably be more cost-effective than using Morrison's. But maybe you are understandably too busy or too tired in the week, in which case please forgive my silly idea!

My DH has a wardrobe crammed full of shirts and he only wears a few favourite ones. Shame I can't pass some on to you phoenix

Some strong deodorant and make do on two shirts a week?! Mitchum is good - lasts for days.

Sorry that he is having to work away and live that horrid life of B&Bs during the week - but the weekends will be all the more precious.
