I have had second thoughts soop and if he is not feelinng any better tomorrow am I would pack a bag and take him to the nearest A & E department. I agree, he looks to me as though he needs IV antibiotics. It takes one blister to burst, infection sets in and then septicaemia. I do not want to alarm you but it is serious and I agree with every word that when says.

soop PLEASE seek medical attention for Mr. Soop very soon - i.e. BEFORE Friday. I agree with when.

soop, please go back to GP or to A&E asap! What MacSp has looks ferocious and there is nothing like that in the description of Lyme disease here.

Did Mr. Soop find/see a tick or a spider? It's important to know that. The staff at the hospital should ask in order to clarify symptoms.

I echo what bags says. This looks more horrendous than ever.

I think you must go,back to GP Soop. I have seen patients with urticaria which looks similar. A condition that can be caused by insect bites, flu like symptoms accompany the rash and it is not a serious condition but I wouldn't like to guess or,diagnose..GP did say to go back before Friday if you were concerned.

Oh soop, your poor hubby! Just looked at the photos - should he be in hospital? Never seem anything like that before. Sending you both virtual hugs - gentle ones in MacSp's case. Hope he's ok, and you too. Such a worry.

I echo what many have said. Unless it is MUCH better by tomorrow morning, get into the car, with a bag packed, and present yourselves either at the GP or at A and E. Friday is too far away. He needs to be under medical attention before then. He is no spring chicken and he has been ill quite recently, his immune system may be a bit shaky.

Could it be shingles? Some of the rash has chickenpox/shingles looking bits. Could some of it be the tick bite and some of it something else, like shingles, coinciding because he is already not 100%?

Oh dear me! Thank you for all your messages of concern. I do appreciate having your input. When we saw the doctor yesterday, we were with him for a very long time. He even counted the spots on MacS's back. The computer was playing up and at one point I wanted to jump up and down and scream blue murder. He has been told to return if matters get much worse. Otherwise, Friday's appointment is with another member of the practise and I'm hoping that a second opinion will be forthcoming. The antibiotics will take time to kick in. He started yesterday afternoon. Funnily enough, I've been wondering about Chicken Pox. Surely the GP would have been able to diagnose something that straightforward. MacS didn't know that he had the strange purple patch on his back until he mentioned that he felt that his tummy and thigh area was very sensitive. I first saw the patch last Thursday. Just lately, MacS has been carting garden clippings into the forest for disposal. There are deer around. Tics like deer. There is just one image on Google that matches the original rash. I shall try to find it and upload if I can. Bear with me and I shall take a look at the website.

Please soop follow the advice given by others and persuade MacS to go to A&E for a second opinion. Take him there by force if necessary

I Googled Lyme Disease Rash pictures and went to Tick Bite Photos. There are scores but one in particular www.goldbamboo.com/pictures-t2972html matches perfectly. I'm sure that you lot can do much better.

At the very mention of returning to the doctor or a trip to A&E puts MacS in a bit of a tizwoz. He says that it's not necessary. WISH you lot could talk some sense into him. I'm extremely grateful for your support. MacS asks me to thank each and every one of you.

Soop I have only just seen the pictures of John's rash.
I don't think you should wait any longer for the antibiotics to 'kick in'
I agree with When that this is potentially serious and I think you should take him to A&E now.

Could poor MacSporran have shingles? Sounds more like it than Lyme Disease going by the info. below. I do hope soop manages to get further medical advice for him asap. Do Scottish Drs. do home visits?

soop darling, I'd say it is time to apply a bit of emotional blackmail. Stop being the calm sensible understanding wife and go into frantic hysteria mode. Beg him to think of you and what will happen to you if he neglects this and it all goes pearshaped and ...and ... etcetera and go to get help.

It looks and sounds nasty. More people than me have wondered about shingles, and that can be very painful and last for ages. It is more widespread than the shingles of anyone I know of. He is entitled to be worried and to show them that he is worried, and you are entitled to insist that he does so. You are worried too!

He needs to make a fuss, and to persuade him to do that you will have to make a fuss at him. Tell him if he is a wimp and creates a storm he will get everyone rallying round to diagnose it and find the right treatment, if he puts up with it patiently then he will be at the back of the queue.

Did the rash appear before or after the antibiotics? If it appeared after he started them, could it be a nasty allergic reaction? If he won't go to the doctor, couldn't you tell her that he's too poorly to come to the surgery and will need a home visit? It's hardly an exaggeration, after all.

If I remember right, the antibiotics were prescribed when he went to the GP after the rash appeared.
