We had a lovely late lunch yesterday. Roast lamb, potatoes, parsnips, green beans, broccoli and carrots. All well received. The pudding was chocolate fudge cake for the chocolate lovers and Victoria sponge cake for the others, all accompanied by a large bowl of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and clotted cream. In any combination desired. Plus cheese.
I inherited, from my late MiL, a thick cut glass bowl which is only used on special occasions and I had filled this with the fruit. I picked it up from the side table to put on the dining table and with no warning it exploded
in my hands, shattering fruit and countless shards and pieces of glass all over the floor. I only realised I was hurt when I saw blood dripping onto the floor too.
DsiL is a Dr so sat me down with hand raised above my head then he and DD set to and cleared up the mess - and it was a mess. Tiny bits of glass everywhere. My cut is at the base of my thumb and is quite deep but held together with steri-strips. DH then told me that he had noticed a crack in his Mum's glass dish last time he washed it! It was a spectacular explosion and could have been a lot worse injury, not just for me!
There was lots of cake , cream and cheese left so no-one went hungry. It was a spectacular explosion and I had no idea cut glass would do that.
