soop gave me a key so her you are, folks, the new extension. Plate of crumbly oatcakes on the side there with the coffee and tea pots.

soop Tue 08-Dec-15 15:20:39

Lona Pleased to hear that you are recovering at long last. Do take things easy. As for painful mammograms...I'm an F cup. It don't 'alf 'urt when the delicate bits are flattened like a pancake.

Cards! hmm Perhaps this weekend. Who knows...

Luckygirl Tue 08-Dec-15 16:00:41

Mirrored ceilings!!- wow! - the mind boggles!

Galen Tue 08-Dec-15 16:15:36

Talking about mirrors, my Gran used to cover all the mirrors if there was a thunderstorm. Wonder how she would have managed with a mirrored ceiling?

soop Tue 08-Dec-15 16:31:00

Galen My Nana also covered the mirrors for the same reason.

Luckygirl Heck! Imagine the wobbly bits being reflected as one lies in bed and thinks of England...or wherever. Not a pretty picture. tchshock

numberplease Tue 08-Dec-15 16:55:58

My MIL used to sit with a tea towel over her head in thunderstorms, and had to be REALLY convinced it was over before removing it.
I`ve written a few more cards today, about 20 to go now. One stamp will cost almost as much as a box of cards!

tchgrin soop
My mind's boggling!
We had to buy somewhere pdq Charleygirl because estate landlord evicted all the tenant farmers and it was the 13th one we looked at. Its an exRAF semi so very well built and on a small cult de sac, we love it! I wasn't worried about decor, imy first 'must have' was plenty of light.
My mother used to cover mirrors too, and unplug every thing she could if thunderstorms forecast - it drove poor dad mad!

kittylester Tue 08-Dec-15 17:08:38

Hello everyone! I found you at last. I haven't been around much as I've been busy but I think I have flu too and am sitting under a blanket feeling pathetic! I'm bewildered by having the flu and having had the jab!tchconfused. And, I could be doing so much if I didn't feel so wobbly!

Lona, my last mammogram was much less painful than previous ones!

Nellie have a (((hug))).

soop Tue 08-Dec-15 17:25:38

loopylou My mother sat in the broom cupboard under the stairs. She was most afraid of thunder.

kitty Oh thank goodness that you've found the new kitchen. We like having you around. As for the awful flu-type bug that has made you feel miserable...I'm hoping to goodness that MacSporran doesn't pick it up. If he should, then he's in for a particularly bad dose. Leukaemia is no respecter of persons.

Nellie And a gentle (hug) from me too.

I shall be cleaning my pal's silver tomorrow morning. hmm I hope to call into our kitchen as soon as I'm free.

The wind is picking up. Tortoiseshell cat and Rory have had an early supper. She now sleeps under the wee chalet that MacSporran made some time ago. The floor has a thick polystyrene layer on top of which I put clean newspapers (that have been warmed on top of the boiler.) Daft as a brush, me.

Mammograms - I had one three weeks ago and, thankfully, have had the all clear. Didn't think it particularly painful and what's a moment's discomfort for peace of mind? I hope you are back to full health Lona and Kitty.

Charleygirl Tue 08-Dec-15 18:32:15

soop and Luckygirl* the mirrored ceilings were seen when I was looking at houses prior to buying this one. The house was okay- but it needed a lot of work including changing the mirrored ceilings- too much for me.

Crafting Tue 08-Dec-15 18:32:25

Just popped into the kitchen to catch up on the latest news and am now sitting in the corner sniggering over soop's comments about Gary and Galen's shocked reply. Something tasty indeed tchgrin

Lorna poor you. Glad you are feeling better and thank you for the delicious mince pies and brandy sauce. Naughty but ever so nice smile

I have started writing my Christmas cards (smug grin). Four done and .....loads more to do tchhmm

hildajenniJ Tue 08-Dec-15 18:44:41

I hardly ever visit the kitchen, but I've popped in to tell you about a naughty dog. I was sitting at the table, eating my soup, (delicious home made spiced lentil) when my dog walked past crouched, and began to pee on the carpet. I jumped up, scolded her, and sent her outside to finish off. She hadn't given me any signals that she wanted to go out. I have a spray called "Get Off", which is quite good, so now my living room smells very citrusy! I've gone right off the soup!

loopylou Tue 08-Dec-15 18:55:46

Oh dear hildaj, was it raining out? DM's dog pees every time it goes to my sister's house, never does it anywhere else!

hildajenniJ Tue 08-Dec-15 19:04:33

Unfortunately it is raining outside loopy. In her defense she is 16 years old, and I think she might be a bit incontinent now.

loopylou Tue 08-Dec-15 19:14:10

Bless her! At that great age I wouldn't want to get my feet wet either tchsmile
Give her a cuddle from me.

Galen Tue 08-Dec-15 19:49:57

crafting ive put a photo of Gary on the xmas preparation thread!
his wife Kate, who cleans for me, would murder me if she thought i was giving him 'something tasty' tchgrin

dustyangel Tue 08-Dec-15 21:25:13

Galen tchgrin I've just had a quick look at the Xmas prep thread to check out the gorgeous Gary. Has he got a twin brother?

I'm glad I've managed to find you all in the new kitchen. I've put a lot of some after dinner mini magnums in the freezer. ( you don't really have to wait till after dinner tchwink )

Nelliem ((hugs))) and flowers I can identify with so much of what you say. Has it got worse as he has got older.?

On a lighter note, I used to think I'd like a whippet or retired greyhound. At our recent family gathering I introduced my cousin to DH's niece and mentioned that one of them had retired greyhounds and the other a whippet. They didn't stop talking! By the time I'd heard tales of broken legs caused by crashing into a tree chasing a squirrel, (greyhound) leaping over two stair gates to get upstairs (whippet) and worst of all, eventual total tail amputation because of damage. (whippet) I have changed my mind. tchgrin

Crafting Tue 08-Dec-15 22:07:09

I agree dusty No wonder Galen is keeping him to herself tchshock. Thanks for the magnums by the way. Just what I needed.

Just read about your cruise on the other thread Galen. Hope you have a great time and manage to get all your packing done (and don't try sneaking Gary into your suitcase when no one is looking!) tchgrin

soop Wed 09-Dec-15 13:18:48

Good morning anno I like it when you drop into our kitchen. tchsmile

hildajenniJ I also believe that your dear dog isn't being naughty but is, due to her elderly status, weak-bladdered. I often witness the same type of behaviour when I'm with a friend's elderly dog. My friend has a lightweight carpet shampooer thingy and the carpet doesn't appear to suffer in spite of constant use.

dusty I wish that you hadn't mentioned mini Magnums. I do so love them. May need to buy a few for our wee freezer. Such a good idea for the occasional treat.

Crafting Our Galenis a lady of impeccable taste. Bless her.

Jud Fingers tightly crossed. tchwink

Galen Wed 09-Dec-15 13:27:20

Why not? The suite sleeps 3

Alea Wed 09-Dec-15 13:31:13

That's a bit depressing, dustyangel. Grace is my third retired racing greyhound, and apart from my clumsiness with the door and her tail, I have never come across the chapter of accidents you quote. They are lovely, graceful couch potatoes and apart from the odd dash down the garden, like nothing more than sleeping in the sun.

Alea Wed 09-Dec-15 13:32:55

Rushing around, moi?

Nelliemoser Wed 09-Dec-15 14:05:58

Thanks for the messages of support. Yes things have got worse as he has got older. We are about to take delivery of a new washing machine and I am dreading OHs ideas to dispose of the old one.

He appeared at least last night to not want to pay Currys to take it away. I did have a big rant at him about it last night. Rude words were said. I have now washed my hands of the the whole affair. I have no idea what will happen.

If they deliver when I am at home I will try to see if they can take it for disposal, despite not having booked this. Its not as iif he cannot afford it.

I must get lunch I have been cooking all morning to get something to take to a meal with girl friends tonight. I also prepared our Christmas day nut roast and I am decorating my Cristmas cake after lunch.
Take care you lovely lot.

soop Wed 09-Dec-15 16:03:52

And the same to you, dear Nellie...Have a good evening and well deserved break together with your friends. flowers

soop Wed 09-Dec-15 16:28:05

I always begin the festive gift wrap session on a high. After 30 minutes I'm feeling frazzled. The b*** parcel tape is sticking to anything within reach...I'm in a miffy mood having discovered that one parcel should have contained an extra bonus gift for our granddaughter. I cannot face opening the main parcel in order to enclose it. This means that there will need to be another parcel to the same address.
Not very cost effective. Bah! Humbug! Hells Bells!
