Are you a regular cinema goer? we only go about four times a year these days, but usually enjoy it so should go more.
What did you go and see last?We saw the latest Bond film ( Dh's choice.)

GreatauntieLinda Fri 18-Mar-16 09:16:51

The latest Star Wars. I hadn't been to the Cinema for over 30 years. The film was in 3D (magic) but I was deaf for three days. Why oh why had it to be so loud? I actually felt the physical impact of the sound.

a preview of Eddie The Eagle. However low your expectations are, it's a lot, lot worse. How some decent actors who presumably don't need the money (unlike Eddie) - Christopher Walken, Hugh Jackman, Keith Allen - were tempted by the lame script, I can't imagine. Perhaps the film as a whole is a metaphor for Eddie's 'career' - how to make money out of rubbish. Was glad I hadn't paid for a ticket.

I think it was last year that I went to see a film with GD1, can't remember what but probably involved fairies or dragons grin

Lona Fri 18-Mar-16 10:28:15

Last film was The Good Dinosaur but dgd wasn't very happy so we left early.
I go with a friend, whenever there's a decent film on and the last one was Bridge of Spies. Brilliant!

annodomini Fri 18-Mar-16 10:35:08

Bridge of Spies. As you say, Lona, it was brilliant. And Mark Rylance well deserved his best supporting Oscar.

grannylyn65 Fri 18-Mar-16 10:38:27

Alea u always make me grin

Lona Fri 18-Mar-16 10:41:38

Yes he did anno. I'm very impressed by his acting.

The Big Short, about sub-prime mortgages in America, I nearly understood what happened by the end! Very good though. Also Bridge of Spies, excellent.

Eloethan Fri 18-Mar-16 11:55:43

The last three we've been to see were:

Brooklyn
Spotlight
The Big Short

All of them were excellent.

Humbear Anomalisa has had brilliant reviews. What did you think of it?

Grannyknot Fri 18-Mar-16 11:57:41

greatauntielinda - when we saw "Hail, Caesar" there was another couple about our age sitting in front of us, and a handful of people in the cinema altogether.

When the film started, they had a brief exchange and then he got up and left the cinema. I whispered to husband "He's gone to ask them to turn the sound down". And so it was grin. Excepting that when he came back in, he didn't draw the curtain over the door, so there was a sliver of light, and husband got up and closed it properly! Lol.

We then all settled down and enjoyed the film.

I tend to carry ear plugs to the movies and lightly plug my ears, otherwise I have what I call an "audio hangover" - I feel headachy and "off" the whole of the following day.

Juggernaut Fri 18-Mar-16 11:59:23

GreatauntieLinda, I take earplugs to the cinema, pop them in and the sound levels are just right.
It ruins a film for me when I get a headache within ten minutes due to the sound being so ridiculously loud!
Last film? Bridge of Spies, wonderful!

Juggernaut Fri 18-Mar-16 12:00:52

Grannyknot.........Great minds think alike!

Tegan Fri 18-Mar-16 12:01:03

The Revenant, Star Wars and Brooklyn. All completely different but all enthralling.

GreatauntieLinda Fri 18-Mar-16 12:27:15

Brilliant idea about the earplugs. They are about to open a new seven screen cinema just down the road from where I live (Dalton Park) so shall visit the chemist for a set of ear plugs all ready to enjoy some good films.

Greyduster Fri 18-Mar-16 13:48:12

Or, presumably Teetime, chucking popcorn all over you blush!

Londongirl Fri 18-Mar-16 14:03:23

Bridge of Spies
The Hateful Eight
The Revenant
All three excellent movies to watch on a large cinema screen.
Watched Spectre on TV recently and am glad I didn't spend money on cinema tickets for it.

grannyactivist Fri 18-Mar-16 14:23:53

We watched The Revenant a couple of days ago and dare I say it? We found it to be overlong, overworked and I was actually bored a couple of times. The dialogue was frequently mumbled so that audience members were constantly querying what had been said. To be fair it has to be said that the scene with the bear seemed to be incredibly authentic. For me the star of the film is definitely the breathtaking scenery.

rosesarered Fri 18-Mar-16 14:45:02

matson you haven't got back to the thread about 'Grimsby' is this really a film?
I heard about the bear scene in Revenant..... Yikes!

NotTooOld Fri 18-Mar-16 16:41:05

Dad's Army last week. After a slightly dodgy start it was very good. I'm a big Dad's Army fan so I just had to see it.

Noplacelikehome Fri 18-Mar-16 16:41:20

BROOKLYN - it was fab. All the costumes were bringing back memories, and funny lines as well as pathos.

Coolgran65 Fri 18-Mar-16 17:24:03

The Van... Maggie Smith .... lovely movie.

mrshat Fri 18-Mar-16 18:06:34

Bridge of Spies - Excellent!

merlotgran Fri 18-Mar-16 18:21:02

Haven't been to the cinema in yonks. I think the last film I saw was Lost in Translation and it was so boring I fell asleep.

Marmight Fri 18-Mar-16 18:39:11

Not in the cinema, but on a long haul flight this week I watched 4 films back to back shock.

Spectre
Bridge of Spies
Suffragettes
Brooklyn

I started to watch Carol but gave up after 40 minutes and went to sleep!

ClaraB Fri 18-Mar-16 18:44:34

Spectre and I fell asleep! I'm not a fan of James Bond but DH is so I thought I would make an effort.
