Are you a regular cinema goer? we only go about four times a year these days, but usually enjoy it so should go more.
What did you go and see last?We saw the latest Bond film ( Dh's choice.)

Eddie the eagle great film cried with laughter

GrandmaMoira Wed 27-Apr-16 19:35:37

The last film I saw was Waterworld in 1995. Is there anyone else who has not been to the cinema for such a long time?

Iam64 Thu 28-Apr-16 07:59:01

I saw The Eye in the Sky this weekend, Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman. It's a brilliant film, would recommend.

grandmaMoira I think there was a poster who said Star Wars ( in the 80's) so you may not be alone in not going to the cinema.I don't like it as much as I used to,
The endless munching and crunching and slurping going on is off putting as is the extreme loudness of the sound quality.I probably only go a few times a year now.

I have been watching films for more years than I care to remember and have fond memories of the cinema in the years after the war when queues would be round the block every night. Seeing as its my specialist subject I thought I would put reviews of films I have loved over the years on paper which I then translated into a website. However, if you go to any film chat site they are inevitably full of jargon previewing the latest teen movie of which there seem to be more churned out by the minute. My thoughts on films I have enjoyed over the years I think will be more to he liking of a more mature audience which is why I a recommending my site Reflections on the Silver Screen. The URL will only be understood by those of certain age - let me know your thoughts on:

The last film I saw was the BFG on Monday evening with the 3DGC. I still fancied Mark Rylance even when he was 12 feet tall with hairy nostrils blush. The children loved it too but for very different reasons

ninathenana Fri 19-Aug-16 16:39:02

The last film I saw was Star Trek. I wasn't that impressed.

KatyK Fri 19-Aug-16 16:47:23

The BFG last week with DD and DGD. Loved it smile

TriciaF Fri 19-Aug-16 17:03:52

I haven't been to the cinema recently. The last time it was Lost in Translation. Daughter took me. It was interesting, but strange.
Before that, Superman 1, Blues Brothers and Animal House ( in the '70s,)
All good fun.
But if you count films on the TV we watched Donnie Brasco during the week (recorded). A mafia-type true life story with Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. It was excellent.

I think the last film DH and I saw was a James Bond one.
We got two for one tickets with my then Orange mobile.
We realised why we don't go to the cinema.
It quickly filled up with lots of folks our age and then lots of students who just talked and talked.
We moved seats a couple of times as I just couldn't see.
Then an obese young woman sat at the end of our row and ate noisily all the way through the the film-was fearful we'd need the Fire Brigade to prise her out of her seat at the end.
And just WHO made that awful smell? ?

Maggiemaybe Fri 19-Aug-16 17:34:14

Ah, you had the awful smell too, Newquay? We were at our Senior Vue showing of Sing Street recently and it drifted over me three times during the film. Very distracting.

DH was quite indignant when I asked afterwards if it was him grin

Christinefrance Fri 19-Aug-16 17:41:09

I used to love going to the cinema but since moving to France have not been so much. Last film I saw was Suite Francaise, excellent film and a good book too.

millymouge Fri 19-Aug-16 17:50:30

We have a Meerkat ticket (got it when we bought the dogs pet insurances) so get one ticket free. Always go about 5pm as it is quiet and empty. Last film was Jason Bourne, The Revenant, Eye in the sky, Dads Army.

Synonymous Fri 19-Aug-16 17:55:10

We go occasionally but only when something really attracts us.
Last time we went DH and I took a friend who has not been to a cinema for 35years shock to see Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Strep and Hugh Grant. It was brilliant casting and beautifully done; we both laughed and cried.

grannylyn65 Fri 19-Aug-16 18:08:05

Ghostbutters

Eloethan Fri 19-Aug-16 18:09:42

Jason Bourne. It was good, but my favourite is still the Bourne Identity.

tiggypiro Fri 19-Aug-16 19:36:41

Finding Dory last week with the GS's. The most boring over hyped film I have seen in a long time. Even the GS's were finding it difficult to sit still.

POGS Fri 19-Aug-16 19:37:02

BFG which we all thoroughly enjoyed and before that AB FAB which was awful.

M0nica Fri 19-Aug-16 20:01:18

I cannot remember when I last went to the cinema, or what I saw. I am not really a sitter and watcher, I get too fidgetty and drive anyone with me mad because I keep wriggling around in my seat. I do not watch much television either, for much the same reasons, unless I am also reading a book or doing sewing at the same time. Perhaps I could take my Kindle with me when I go to the cinema.

Judthepud2 Fri 19-Aug-16 21:47:54

Last three films I have been to see have been: 'The Secret Life of Pets' (hilarious), 'The BFG' (brilliant) and 'Finding Dory' (not as good as 'Finding Nemo'). You can tell it's the school holidays, can't you? And that our weather here hasn't been great!

gillybob Fri 19-Aug-16 23:36:13

Respect to you Jud I could only manage 1 from the list. Mind you I have them all next week so..........

tiredoldwoman Sat 20-Aug-16 08:30:32

Last film I saw was Finding Dory , next one will be Bridget Jones , I've just seen it advertised . I have my best sleeps in the cinema !

Judthepud2 Sat 20-Aug-16 10:26:30

Ah yes tiredoldwoman, the Bridget Jones film sounds like my treat. Looking forward to that one! Apparently she has a baby but the father is in doubt! Should be a laugh.

TerriBull Sat 20-Aug-16 19:05:53

POGS I'm with you on both of those films. I took my 6 year old gd to see BFG this afternoon, I thought it was wonderful, so did she, a thoroughly magical children's film, Speilberg does them so well and Mark Rylance very very good as was the young girl who played Sophie, not from acting school, completely naturaI, good casting. I imagine the DVD will be out for Chrismas, gd has already requested that for her stocking. Last film before that, Ab Fab load of old tosh. Also saw 45 years on DVD recently which I thought again was very good, excellent acting from the two leads, particularly Charlotte Rampling. Looking forward to Bridget Jones, hope it won't be as disappointing as AB Fab.

BlueBelle Sat 20-Aug-16 19:56:06

BFG loved it before that in july was Florence Forster but wasnt so keen on that one
