On a lighter note

The meerkats are brilliant. It was such a great idea and has been so well done. When I got my first meerkat I loved getting emails telling how his journey across Europe was going.

I don't like many adverts all the price comparison sites are awful.
My favourites are still Specsavers they are clever and funny. I have never been tempted by any TV advertising.

On principle I really dislike Dettol constantly trying to make us all paranoid about germs.

Is that the one with the workman pole-dancing and the other man in a suit jacket, shorts and stilettos (and a 'voluptuous' bottom), number? I really do NOT like that one. I dislike it so much, I don't even know what it's advertising.....!

There are not so many clever or witty adverts nowadays but I like the specsavers adverts as in "what kind of cheese was that" (always makes me smile) and think the meerkats are brilliant too.

The sheer number of awful ones beggars belief but the worst are easily the shouting ones which I make note of and ensure that I never buy anything from that company. Notably cillit bang and the stupid windows where you buy one and get one free - presumably because they are twice the price to start with! Just how stupid do they think we are?
Presumably since they are still in business there are some stupid people out there somewhere!

Who passes these adverts to be put on tele?

I don't pay attention to ads normally but that one with Dave the suited twerker is vile.

Also hate the Direct Line Insurance one with Harvey Keitel as Winston Wolf. He can't be that desperate, surely?

Also the one advertising Cancer Research with all those faux (I hope) cancer sufferers.

The only other one I can even remember is GoCompare. Irritating as heck, but at least the bloke can sing!

Apart from the obvious boredom and interruptions of the adverts, they are so.repetitive. Some can be on for longer than a year. For example the woman who resembles Audrey Hepburn and the Galaxy chocolate. I could scream.

I do enjoy the ones for Specsavers. What sort of cheese was that ? Reminds me of my dear old mum and dad. I also like the confused old crofter who shears the poor sheep dog and the old girl who preferred the Aldi gin.

Do prefer BBC if I can as there are no interruptions.

ITVBe is a channel I only watch when there is nothing on BBC. I couldnt be bothered to record it, so therefore can't zzoom through the adverts.

Meerkats are wonderful - I sleep with one beside me in bed (sad but true). I've called her Maureen, she wears Dame Edna type glasses and a green cardi. My granddaughter gave her to me.

Apart from that my favourite ads are for Haribo sweets, when children's voices are dubbed onto adult characters who are discussing their favourite sweets.

But nothing comes close to Cadbury's Smash and the Daleks!!

That must rank as the most disliked on here and it seems really strongly disliked.

I like the one with the tadpoles and the Kinks playing "You Got Me" in the background. I don't know what it's advertising though. Doesn't come on very often unlike twerking Dave who's on every bloody five minutes.

Those old ads were so memorable. Fancy the Smash men being remembered after all this time!

Shake 'n Vac anyone? Martini Ads? Hamlet Cigars?

I think with the old adverts we actually knew what they were advertising! A lot of the new ones seem to try to be "arty" so that it isn't until the end that you get the name of the product. There was one on the other night which I still don't know what it was promoting !!

Is anyone else old enough to remember Jimmy Young as Mrs. Bradshaw`s lodger in the old Surf ads round about 1960?

I do remember Jimmy Young but can't recall the advert. I too loathe the Supermarket.com ones, love the Meerkats and also the rugby players eating Haribo sweeties and the talking with children's voices. We both think Galaxy need a new ad instead of the Audrey Hepburn one though! My husband must watch the ads intently as he'll often recognise someone in another ad and know what else they're on. He also says the subliminal messages on the shampoo ad shouldn't be allowed! He really needs to get out more

I think the earliest ad I remember is the Fairy Liquid one "for hands that do dishes feel as soft as your face"..starring a little Leslie Ash (of trout pout fame). Aaahhh..
