does leaving the EU mean we will get proper light bulbs back?

mrsmopp Fri 24-Jun-16 16:00:32

What shall we spend our extra £350 million a week on? Shall we send David Cameron a shopping list? Oh, hang on, we have to wait two years for it don't we?
I thought there would be a catch......

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 15:59:22

Sainsbury's was open and trading this morning Ann60 do you know something I don't?

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 15:58:24

Now where's that number for my polish builder before he heads back home....

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 15:57:46

Blimey - many of our banks and energy providers are not UK based. Better withdraw my cash and stash it under the mattress. And install a wood burning stove shock

annsixty Fri 24-Jun-16 15:54:11

Should have had Saiinsburys in that post or it won't make sense.

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 15:54:05

I feel like xenophobia won

This is simply an opinion and not a fact.

Why do people find it so hard to distinguish between the two?

annsixty Fri 24-Jun-16 15:53:01

I picked up on that this morning* Jamila* 2 family members work for and I wondered how they will be affected.

Jalima Fri 24-Jun-16 15:43:20

sorry oldkranky - just answering one post.

I did ask DH if Lidl and Aldi would close down now, better go and get his muesli while he still can

Jalima Fri 24-Jun-16 15:42:15

I feel like xenophobia won.

I think a lot of people who voted out did so for many reasons; they are not racist although there may be some who are.

I was not one of them, but I do know people who did vote out, some educated to a very high level, some worked at high level in industry, one whose wife is German and has many German in-laws who are very unhappy with the EU too.

oldkranky Fri 24-Jun-16 15:39:16

I started this thread as a light hearted post. The majority voted for out - accept it and move on. Now it seems the "Chicken Little" syndrome seems to be in effect. Calm down dears - go forth and multiply.

cazthebookworm Fri 24-Jun-16 15:15:43

I SO agree with NanaandGrampy and Willsnan, what's done is done, life goes on so enjoy it, an inquisition won't change anything.......smile

NanaandGrampy Fri 24-Jun-16 14:41:15

I agree Rose . I would be interested in hearing views on the way forward but I'm not interested in being hit over the head with ' I hope you're happy now' threads [smile

FloNightingale Fri 24-Jun-16 14:38:34

It was for us in 1975. Common Market not European Community/federal Europe though. Even lived in Germany with family for seven years. New beginnings now another era.

rosesarered Fri 24-Jun-16 14:35:05

nanaandgrampy smile loved your long post, also a good one willsmadnan smile
Life goes on.... And hopefully now for the better, even if it takes a long time to sort out.
I won't be reading or commenting on all the threads full of anger and bitterness, because I knew it would be like this if we exited the EU.

NanaandGrampy Fri 24-Jun-16 14:10:21

I imagine this is how people felt when we last had this type of referendum and the majority spoke... we made it another 40 odd years :-)

FloNightingale Fri 24-Jun-16 14:00:42

So true Nina NanaandGrampy and Willsmadnan. Democracy has created an exciting if scarey leap into the future and given all our politicians a swift kick. Everyone might get a sense of humour back when things have settled down. Hair dryers were next on the hit list I believe. smile

harrigran Fri 24-Jun-16 13:35:31

willsmadnan flowers

Nonnie1 Fri 24-Jun-16 13:34:18

willsmadnan I'll second that !

Ceesnan Fri 24-Jun-16 13:32:02

willsmadnan thank you! The voice of common sense flowers

willsmadnan Fri 24-Jun-16 13:27:49

I will be worse off than most of you on this forum.... living in the EU, on just a single UK state pension. Am I down-hearted? No , life's too short. Those of you whingeing on about your super-annuated pensions..... stop listening to the prophets of doom, especially BBC rolling news. The sun is shining, I'm off for walk (while I can still put one foot in front of the other) and not expecting the sky to fall in while I'm out.

peaceatlast Fri 24-Jun-16 13:27:23

Hell in a handcart comes to mind

NanaandGrampy Fri 24-Jun-16 13:05:21

I totally agree Nina .

The sun came up today , Tesco's is open , its business as usual.

There will be ups and downs and bumpy roads ahead no doubt but I for one am sick of people who voted differently from me ramming their view down my throat. Trust me I did my homework and as a member of a democracy I was allowed to vote- without fear or favour ( or the approval of GNetters) - as I see fit.

As did everyone else.

Now we have to wait and see how this will work, what it will mean etc . I think a little humour on the way is allowed because I for one am not wasting the time I have left on gods green earth revisiting something that will not change.

If the vote had gone the other way I would not now personally be jumping on every thread to voice my displeasure. I would take it that we had followed the majority vote.

Marty Fri 24-Jun-16 13:04:21

I am sure that not everyone who voted 'out' are xenophobic. Keep calm and carry on. In a couple of days things will have settled down a bit - and the markets.

ninathenana Fri 24-Jun-16 12:59:23

NonnaW it seems too many people have such strong feelings (not condemning that) about it all that it's impossible to have a light hearted thread sad
There are plenty of threads to air your opinions people.
It's done now. We've just got to suck it up.

AlieOxon Fri 24-Jun-16 12:31:39
