Any views on faith healing?

Re throwing homo sapiens out of a family - I remember a news report of a lynch mob attack on a paediatrician for his assumed "perversion".

The answer, Anniebach is that they blame Satan - very conveniently!

I think that people don't see the difference between "healing" and "curing". Healing is a mind/spiritual thing and curing is a loss of the symptoms...
Having said that, I'n a great believer in the placebo effect. What is immaterial is whether I am a christian, or believer in any superior spiritual being. If the healing is going to work it works - viz. the thing about knee operations, where the patient was put through most of the procedures they would have had if they had actually had knee replacements, and they were as good as new. The mind is a powerful thing!

Faith healing like the scriptures has to be seen/experienced to be believed.
The power of the mind can influence many that there is a supreme being who is in control of our lives
That if you have faith then you will be healed.
Birth is unique as is death. We enter and depart with out options. How we live our lives is for many personal choice
For many their destiny is one in which circumstances dictate there is no choice.

How come animals have been healed

My Mum had been in pain for ages with a slipped disc in her back. The doctor had tried everything but nothing worked. My Father had been told to swing on her legs whilst she held on to the bannister....which was very painful for Mum. We had a disctict nurse living across the road from us and she told Mum that her brother, a faith healer, was coming on a visit. Mum hobbled over the road to see him, and she came back and did a summersalt! I kid you not! She said he put his hands on her head and she felt a warm feeling right down to her toes. That is all he did....but it worked! Yes, I do believe in faith healing.

I remember somewhere in the Bible it says that you do not have to be in a church to pray. You can pray where you are, whenever you like. You do not need to wear a posh hat, or turn up every Sunday to show how religious you are.

I've been told many times that I have "healer's hands". I have no idea if this is true or not. However, it would appear that if someone around me has a headache and I put my hands on their head, the pain dissipates. Perhaps it would go anyway? Who knows. I have learned to do/send Reiki and friends tell me it has helped. I have met a few people who really do heal, a truly magical friend of mine who took away a migraine from which I was suffering, in the space of minutes - I couldn't believe it - and one very famous "mystifier" who I saw temporarily heal a little girl in a wheelchair in his own home. When I lived in France I met a "sourcier" - water diviner in English - who stopped my MIL from smoking, cured my husband of his allergies, cured a friend's sinusitis, and relieved my brother-in-law of shoulder/neck problems. The effect he had on me was to take away the pain, admittedly only for nine days, of my spinal fracture. Fascinating stuff.

This thing about some people, some being the important word and where it means a very small proportion of the population, any population (such as a GP's list of patients, or the global population), could it not just be that they fall into the category that our GP certainly keeps reminding people about, namely that sometimes things get better by themselves because our immune systems, which include our mindset/spirituality, find a way to deal with them?

Or is that too scientific an option for some people?

I think opinions on this subject are unique to each individuals personal experiences. I used to attend a Pentecostal Church, under the influence of a controlling father who 'saw the light' when I was 16. There was 'laying on of hands' for healing every Wednesday and Saturday. I desperately wanted to see a miracle and over the five years I attended, there were some but only in the form of cured headaches and the like. I did my best to engage but just couldn't.

When my 2nd Son was born, he lived for six days. He was a full term baby and during those six days I prayed and prayed but it made no difference. After he died, I said to 'God' - 'if you are really there, go away and leave me alone'.

The long term outcome is that I choose to not have an opinion. I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from finding comfort wherever they can find it. I just know that faith healing is not for me.

I call this "faith" healing even if there is no religious input.
There was an item on the Today program this morning by someone who emphasied the beneficial effects of care staff being empathetic to patients. The bedside manner has a definate and proven healing effect and this has been known for centuries. Although it gets forgotten form time to time.
Sometimes just hand holding and reassurance make a huge
difference.

I don't believe at all, in God or prayers or laying of hands. I'm pleased for people who do though. It clearly gives some people comfort

My husband has been in and out of hospital this year. We are Christians. The hospital told us they couldn't do anything other than holistically.

We took the action through my husband new diet. I also took the action of hands on spiritual prayer healing. Our church and life group etc also praying, supporting etc. My Husband is alot better than he has been in a long time.

Is it pray? Is it coincidence? Where they wrong? You can argue all those points. What I do know is prayer helps. No there is no answer to the example of above of a child dieing.

What I can tell you is that it is alot easier to deal with life's hardships with God (as you understand) than without. I know! I have done both ways. I have a very hard life story too.

I do know that attitude doing what is suggested, and all the things we have done including have alot of love and support around us as made a big difference.

As for looking at the things wrong in the world and blaming it on God or saying there is no God because of XYZ, that is for debating in another thread. It would take me too long to post on that in here.

Even as a Christian I don't just think prayer has done it. We have to taken the action around it. Too many people in my husband situation choose to ignore the diet advice which is high protein/high carb eating 6 times a day. Our Drs have told us that.

Yes our GP knows we are Christians and about the spiritual prayer etc. They have no problem with is cos in their words ''your taking the rest of the actions too'' The time they worry is when people refuse any type of treatment, holistic or otherwise and just rely on prayer.

After all if you have a faith you also believe God (you understand) has given the medical profession the skills to help the healing process as well. In our case it is by diet and an other holistic treatments.

Do you mean homosexual - I think homo sapiens is a generic term for the human race..?

I practise and teach Reiki and have seen some amazing results. It's not a placebo because it works on animals. You don't have to believe in it for it work. I've just come from the local hospice where I see pain levels reduce (or even disappear) time and time again. I think someone who understand quantum mechanics might be able to explain it.

No, Hapgran The point of the two stories is that both were violent actions based on confusion and ignorance. Someone heard "homo sapiens" (human being or "one of mankind")and immediately reacted as though it was homosexual (having sex with someone of the same sex, mostly used for men), and someone else learnt that a paediatrician (doctor for children) was living in a certain house and reacted as though he was a paedophile (sexual abuser of children).

Throwing out a homosexual family member is bad, but throwing out all the homo sapiens would leave you totally alone. And attacking a paediatrician would be a bad thing for sick children.
