Can I still wear jeans at 70

I am 70 and spend a lot of time in black jeans, either Per Una or Sainsbury's. I'm a size 16 so I wear straight leg ones as skinny legs would never go on me. They may not be haute couture but they are ideal for running after small boys

Of course you can. I can't wear skinny jeans cos I think my tummy is too big and my legs are too fat - always have been. BUT get a shape that you feel comfortable in from a range that fits well and enjoy wearing them as long as you like.

PS I'm 70 too.

I think there are few things unsuitable for a woman d'un certain âge: very short skirts, very low necks and bikinis. But that is only my opinion and I would never feel justified in criticising a contemporary for choosing to wear these things if they made her feel good – or just anyway as it's not my business. I also understand that some women's upper arms have a "chicken wing" effect and they might feel more comfortable in a garment with sleeves, but that is, whatever a woman wears, her choice.

Of course you can. Who's going to stop you? I'm nearly 80 and still wear them often. It's just a matter of choosing the time and place for them. I hate the skinny look, mainly because I have fat knees, (both knees are artificial) but love straight leg or bootcut.
There is something about jeans that always makes me feel better, - sort of younger and more adventurous somehow.

of course! We were the first generation to wear them. If the young don't like it they should get their own fashion.

It's funny isn't it, how we think about clothes. I can remember thinking that at some stage I'd have to stop wearing jeans and start wearing 'old lady' clothes. Well I'm now 63 and often reject things in shops as being middle aged or mumsy!
And by the way, I've had a few compliments in my time on how my bum looks in jeans, and DH still will sometimes remark "nice bum". So I don't care if others think I'm too old, if I'm happy I'll carry on wearing them.

By all means do wear jeans at ANY age if you still have the legs and bum to carry them off.

But, I'm sorry to say, so many much, much younger women insist on wearing jeans, trousers and shorts even though they must very well know they have backsides as big as the iceberg that sank the Titanic!

Clearly they either don't have a three-sided mirror or a VERY good friend who will point out that their bum really, really, really does look big in that outfit......

I always wear jeans,but have just treated myself to a pair of black jeggings from Peacocks and wear them with a long jumper and anckle boots.
My grandaughters think i,m a trendy nanny who will be 70 very soon.

Lilypops good question. I go for comfort these days and tight fitting jeans and the thick cloth they are made from are too restricting for me.
I like fashionable trousers but mainly in brown or black with a touch of lycra maybe and certainly not tight fitting.

Hi Ladies , Further to my post about wearing jeans at 70 and finding ones that fit nicely, thanks for all your tips and suggestions, I bought jeggings from M&S , they went straight back , too tight and clingy , so , I bought Sculpt and bum lift £35 and a pair of straight leg indigo £15 for every day wear , and, they fit and I am happy , My quest is over,,, till next time I am looking for , shoes, boots, dyson , soup makers ,
I know I can rely on you lovely GN,s to come up with help,x

Does it matter if you have a bum as big as an iceberg? IMO women can be the cruelest critics of other women.

I have been wearing skinny jeans for a couple of years now and wouldn't be seen dead in wide/bootleg jeans any more. Even the straight leg ones now look wide on me I wear smart casual loose tops (to hide that little bump) with scarfs and either ankle boots or shoes with socks as I don't like tights underneath jeans except if it's very cold and I'm out walking the dog I will wear thermal tights underneath-feels very nice and warm. You're only as old as you feel so carry on wearing your jeans and just please yourself. I think I will always wear jeans as I'm quite petite with slim (thin -I once heard one of my sons say) legs?.
Varien. You can speak for yourself as we are not all hippy and I think I look ok in jeans. My OH would soon tell me if I looked scruffy or unsmart and I also have a great friend who I will ask if I'm unsure of something.

Is lollipops for real or someone having a bit of fun out of us GN. I'm not sure?.

Some wouldn't be seen dead in jeggings/leggings......in other words we are all different and have different likes/dislikes, and ( it has to be said) different shapes, fat legs and thin legs and so on.All of which play a part in choosing jeans.

Glad you got the Sculpt and Lift Lilypops, they're really flattering aren't they? Fit nicer than the usual denim and look smarter too. I even wear them for work sometimes ando no one's picked up that they're jeans yet.

varien you speak for yourself I m not hippy or lumpy and have seen plenty of people look good in jeans whatever age By your standards do we all wake up on our 50 th birthday and say ok jeans in the bin now I will wear old lady trousers nah we wear what we enjoy wearing I certainly have friends and family who would tell me if I didn't look acceptable If jeans aren't for you that's fine but the majority of posters on here seem to like wearing them and I m sure we don't all look lumpy and bumpy and not attractive Each to his own

Varian did you really mean 50? DD is 43 this year and I can't imagine anything is going to happen in the next 7 years to make her look hideous in them.

I'm really just wearing the clothes I've always worn, the skirts are longer and the heels are lower and I can't see to put eyeliner on anymore, but that's all. I'm still trying to avoid middle aged clothes - not sure when I'll be old enough for them

Perhaps we should all be ready for beige check polyester with elasticated waistband and be done with it! it would certainly make eating out easier.
Am off to M&S right now, and may return with two pairs of them, maybe a size up, in case I will soon need them.

A long time ago when I had small children at home I worked in a care home and used to wonder at what age you went into big old knicks well I m happy to report that hasn't happened to me and although I m not much younger now than those I was looking after the sensible big balloons have never materialised I still like pretty kecks
