I need a new pair of jeans, I have always worn them , but hurtling towards 70years old I wonder if I can still wear jeans and then I can't decide on what style, I like the skinny look but I don't have skinny legs, I would love to look effortlessly chic in jeans ,What do other GN,s think?

Bijou Nonsense. Women of any age should be careful about what they wear and it should suit their figure, but apart from that jeans can look very nice. I've been told I look really good in jeans. I'm lucky enough to have a nice rounded pert bottom. Baggy, cheap jeans do not look good, but good quality jeans preferably in a darker colour, look nice. I've bought cheaper jeans from Marks & Spencer's and the material is a bit thinner and they tend to look a bit scruffy as they go a bit baggy when you've been wearing them for a while. That all sounds a bit big headed. hmm blush

Bijou was just expressing an opinion Peaseblossom. Lucky you to have "a nice, rounded, pert bottom" ! Even tho you say so yourself !

I have not worn a skirt for at least 8 years and live in jeans or trousers.(posh silk or velvet for weddings and dressy, or straight smart when required)
However nobody asks whether a man needs a "nice, rounded, pert bottom" to wear trousers so why be so sexist and/or ageist?
Or would you echo the sentiments of Ogden Nash on Women who wear trousers?

"Sure deck your lower limbs in pants;
Yours are the limbs, my sweeting.
You look divine as you advance–
Have you seen yourself retreating?"

Of course if you wear a nice watch like David Beckham, it hardly matters grin

rosesarered Wed 01-Feb-17 21:05:35

Looks like those trousers are about to do a PJ Proby any second.

MawBroon Wed 01-Feb-17 21:27:02

The watch bears close examination of course, at least a lingering second glance grin

Perhaps he was sewn into them, like That Dress that Marilyn Monroe wore.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Just my opinion but I think anyone over 60 looks like mutton dressed as lamb. I'm in my early 60's, never wear a skirt, always trousers but NEVER jeans.People go on about the likes of Mary Berry and jeans but I think she looks hideous in them. They are probably OK for walking the dog but that's as far as it goes, though I find a pair of Craghoppers walking trousers are a lot more comfy and don't weigh your legs down when they get wet. However, I admit I'm speaking as someone who has never really understood the attraction of jeans so if you feel happy in them go for it. I'll just snigger behind your back.

Jalima Wed 01-Feb-17 22:03:01

I'll just snigger behind your back.
If that's what makes you happy tidy

But be careful, there may be someone behind you saying how spiteful you are.

Especially in your craghoppers! I only wear mine with walking boots. (Walking trousered, that is). Jeans most of the rest of the time. 76 and going strong.

Bellanonna Wed 01-Feb-17 22:05:50

Trousers

stillaliveandkicking Wed 01-Feb-17 22:25:57

I personally don't see why not. However I don't really wear jeans as such, I wear jeggin type ones but intend to wear them till I drop down dead.

Do we have to conform to a uniform for different age groups? As has been said before wear what you damn well like. As far as I am aware there are no jeans police on the prowl. Pert bums dont mean you live longer, so enjoy the life you have regardless.

Just turned 70 and am wearing black jeans at the moment. Also have blue ones which I wear quite often. My daughter laughed at me because I only started wearing them when I turned 60, ! Haven't received any comments to suggest I am too old to wear them-yet!

mrsmopp Sat 04-Feb-17 00:14:02

Bought a new pair yesterday in the sale, very pleased with them as they are a lovely fit. I didn't think the slim legs would suit me till I tried them on. These days we 70 year olds can wear nice clothes thank goodness. No need to be frumpy, you do feel better if you know you look good. Go for it!

Tidyskatemum, do you wear those suede boots with thick crepe soles and a zip up the front? Do you wear crimplene trousers with the front crease sewn in? Do you only wear clothes that are 'comfy'? Your comments were a bit unkind I think, implying that over 60's should be comfy rather than smart and stylish. And stop sniggering!

You nationhood wearing jeans at any age, any size, any time, as long as you wear them to suit your shape. It's all about how you wear them. I'm currently looking for very dark blue drinks, but can't seem to find them.

I know someone who gave up wearing jeans at 50 years of age, but I think that's an old fashioned view these days.

Kitspurr Sat 04-Feb-17 11:05:54

You can, not nationhood - where did that come from?! And jeans not drinks.

MawBroon Sat 04-Feb-17 11:09:08

Drinks would be fine, how about Curaçao doesn't that come in blue? Then there's Blue Sapphire gin, only that's just the bottle.
Maybe your predictive text has a hidden connection to your subconscious!! grin ?

rosesarered Sat 04-Feb-17 14:11:56

Craghoppers only look ok for hopping about on crags though.Very few of those where I live.grin
Actually jeans, the right ones probably look fine on anybody, it's getting the right shape and fit for your own body.I have some that look fine on me in the morning and which grip like a python in the afternoon.

MissAdventure Sat 04-Feb-17 14:18:06

That's a mighty fine watch Mr Beckham has. wink

rosesarered Sat 04-Feb-17 16:33:40

I know....I keep having to take a peek at it.wink

Bellanonna Sat 04-Feb-17 16:44:09

At both of them. Or do I need Specsavers? ?

Rinouchka Sat 04-Feb-17 16:47:24

Lilypops, of course, you can wear jeans as long as you find a cut that suits your body and is comfortable.
I have several but my favourite are high waisted, skinny legs. I plan to wear them for as long as I have life and bounce left in me!
Here I am bouncing along with GD2 in Central Park, Manhattan, despite fattish bottom( mine, not GD's!)

MawBroon Sat 04-Feb-17 17:19:57

Are you sure Bellanonna, rosesarered, MissAdventure feel free to check it out again. The ⌚️ of course.

petra Sat 04-Feb-17 22:33:12

I had to look up this 'craghopper' thing as it's something I've never seen, now I know why grin lovely fit not
Not a lot of crags here in Southend either, Roses
