Hi my granddaughter 12 and my grandson 11 secondary school have replaced the old fashioned shirt tie and blazer uniform and introduced a polo shirt and jumper uniform what's people's opinion ? The new uniform is conpulsary from May. I have offerd my daughter to buy my grand kids the new uniform it's far cheaper than the current one.

Shoes from Asda or Shoezone, presumably? grin

Redblue1 Fri 10-Mar-17 16:47:57

What ? Primark actually

I never see the point in getting rid of a blazer and tie. Why on earth have the school decided to change in May and not September ? As a parent i would not be changing with half a term to go.

Sounds sensible to me Redblue . My children used to regularly lose their blazers even though they had a name label . Not sure what Ana means by shoes from Shoezone or Asda ? hmm
Most of the major Supermarkets sell these new style uniforms very reasonably so they can have enough to change everyday and still look smart x

Onesies for all, I say! (in the school colours, of course...)

A school wouldn't change a uniform mid year - unless it was to make them all come in onesies.

Redblue1 Fri 10-Mar-17 16:59:28

I ment it's available from May but not conpulsary until September

I think a blazer is a very unsuitable garment, not waterproof and needs dry cleaning. Also as girls begin to develop, a tie just looks ridiculous. Polo shirt and jumper every time. Less expensive, easier to look after, so can be changed much more regularly. What sometimes worries me about school uniforms is that they are often such dark colours, dangerous when walking to and from school on dark mornings or evenings.

My adult children's school went the other way- sweatshirts and no tie changed to blazers and kilts ( for the girls though I expect the boys could wear them these days). Seems really silly to me.

Pull the other one

Have you got nothing better to do - or do you really get your kicks this way?

All very sad really.......

I suppose the OP (and it could be a different person every time) can always count on catching some new GN members out, so it gives them a good giggle...hmm

tanith Fri 10-Mar-17 17:11:44

hmm

Ilovecheese Fri 10-Mar-17 17:12:18

Yup, caught me out!

Redblue1 Fri 10-Mar-17 17:15:00

This is my first ever post about this subject.

Good Grief!
f77ms I think if you are new here you may have missed many previous similar posts about school uniform.

We could be wrong though and doing the poster an injustice.
Apologies if this has has happened.
The convers might be on the other foot. wink

Then there must be hundreds of kids aged about 11 passing round a link to Gransnet with a note "Hey! Here's I told them my granson's school was changing the uniform from blazers to jumpers and banning plimsolls and what did they think, and I got lots of answers. Someone else asked about their grandson wanting a pink onesie. What a laugh!"

annodomini Fri 10-Mar-17 18:45:22

Surely plimsolls must be part of that new uniform?

Jalima Fri 10-Mar-17 19:27:28

I think onesies should be compulsory school uniform.

In the school colours, of course.

MawBroon Fri 10-Mar-17 19:53:57

Hurray!!
Easter has come early this year grin
No anno not plimsolls, "vans" !

MawBroon Fri 10-Mar-17 19:54:56

Meantbtonadd , it's like hearing the first cuckoo of spring grin ? ? ?

MawBroon Fri 10-Mar-17 19:55:21

"Meant to add"....

Jalima Fri 10-Mar-17 19:57:02

Not sure what Ana means by shoes from Shoezone or Asda ?
f77ms you will find out wink

nanaK54 Fri 10-Mar-17 21:20:14

Hmmm - I have a feeling this might not be the only 'dodgy' thread this evening.....we will see

willsmadnan Fri 10-Mar-17 21:29:35

Why do some GN regulars always blame these bizarre postings re
teenage clothing and 'plimmies' on bored school kids? Far more likely to be some silly old perv with a shoe/school uniform fetish.
