Hi my granddaughter 12 and my grandson 11 secondary school have replaced the old fashioned shirt tie and blazer uniform and introduced a polo shirt and jumper uniform what's people's opinion ? The new uniform is conpulsary from May. I have offerd my daughter to buy my grand kids the new uniform it's far cheaper than the current one.
Redblue1 there was one poor, sad soul, who occasionally comes on GN and posts about her grandson's school uniform. She was fixated with plimsoles and school uniform in general and it's cost etc,,
She was to be pitied as she obvious had some kind of issue, an obsession I think it's fair to say..
That is why people are 'going on about plimsolls and onesies' - hope that explains it.
Why do some GN regulars always blame these bizarre postings re teenage clothing and 'plimmies' on bored school kids? Far more likely to be some silly old perv with a shoe/school uniform fetish.
Then there must be hundreds of kids aged about 11 passing round a link to Gransnet with a note "Hey! Here's I told them my granson's school was changing the uniform from blazers to jumpers and banning plimsolls and what did they think, and I got lots of answers. Someone else asked about their grandson wanting a pink onesie. What a laugh!"
I suppose the OP (and it could be a different person every time) can always count on catching some new GN members out, so it gives them a good giggle...
My adult children's school went the other way- sweatshirts and no tie changed to blazers and kilts ( for the girls though I expect the boys could wear them these days). Seems really silly to me.
I think a blazer is a very unsuitable garment, not waterproof and needs dry cleaning. Also as girls begin to develop, a tie just looks ridiculous. Polo shirt and jumper every time. Less expensive, easier to look after, so can be changed much more regularly. What sometimes worries me about school uniforms is that they are often such dark colours, dangerous when walking to and from school on dark mornings or evenings.
Sounds sensible to me Redblue . My children used to regularly lose their blazers even though they had a name label . Not sure what Ana means by shoes from Shoezone or Asda ? Most of the major Supermarkets sell these new style uniforms very reasonably so they can have enough to change everyday and still look smart x
