When you really start to notice weaknesses that have been creeping up on you.

This is a bit of a performance BUT when I want to open a bottle of beer I have to sit on the bottom stair, place the bottle between my feet then hold with left hand (piece of kitchen paper round neck of bottle for extra grip) and use a plastic 'jarkey' with right hand. Blimey!
By the time I've managed it (and sometimes I surprise myself with just one try) you can imagine that I'm ready for the beer!

out of sheer desperation I jammed the lid of a wine bottle into the door frame to try and loosen it.

It worked.

My clothes were red, the floor was red, the walls were red.... I think I managed to get a glass out of what was left. mind you I sat and drank it before tacking the cleaning up.

My hands aren't as strong as they used to be. I was trying to open a jar recently and my 10 year old GD said 'give it to me Nan'. I did, not expecting her to be able to open it but she did. Oh dear!

Sometimes if you put on a rubber glove and try again with a bottle, it works o.k.

My 6 yr old grandson went up the road with me to deliver a note to a neighbour. He then said 'let's hop back grandma' so I tried: 3 hops and i couldnt do any more. He was astonished! But i remember hopping all the way up and down the steps of a railway bridge when i was little and amazing my mum. At the time I thought it wAs easy. Quite depressing really, looking back!

You probably brightened his day! Laugh about it and forget it.

Had a good laugh at these posts, especially radicalnan's story of her mum hiding in the cupboard under the stairs and the meter man opening the door. I'd love to have seen their faces.

Today I was looking at Always Discreet/Tena products in the supermarket. A lady came along, also looked at the products and says to me about how expensive they are, leading to a discussion on the merits of the different ratings, with or without wings etc.

When we parted 15 minutes later I knew all about her (unsuccessful) operation, her pelvic floor, how it was sometimes stress incontinence, sometimes urge.... Her current bad cough wasn't helping matters. I saw in her bag that she had spare everything in case of an accident.
I also knew about her friend's (successful) operation and friend's pelvic floor.

No embarrassment whatsoever from either of us

And I do have a fantastic postman, who sees me regularly in my dressing gown. Never in my nightdress - with or without the door open

My milkman calls for his money early (8am!) on Saturdays. He's quite used to me opening the door in my nightie with a cardi slung round my shoulders. However, recently his teenage grandson has been helping him ... I now have to set the alarm to make sure I'm dressed to spare the poor lad's blushes

I've noticed that I can't get words out occasionally. I am in full flow and all of a sudden the word I want won't come to me. Every now and then I try to remember someone famous from the past and their name is a blank. Just can't remember, and then half an hour later it will come to me.

Physically, getting up and down off the floor isn't as easy as it was, bending in the garden means it takes ages to straighten up, and after sitting for a while I ache and take a while to straighten up and get back to fast paced walking.

All signs of age creeping up on me. I must get so gentle exercise to help me stay supple I think, even though I hate exercise for exercises sake.

I keep a pair of nutcrackers in my cutlery drawer. Very useful for getting tops of things, especially my wine bottle! I hate those ringpull tins, have to use a fork or spoon handle in order to get enough purchsse but it doesn't always work. and I have to ask DH. Also hate it when I have to ask him to lift things for me as I am not supposed to lift more than 10 pounds.

Lakeland does a great wee tool to open ring pulls. I wouldn't be without it.

I was sitting on the end of my bed, wrapped in a towel and drying my hair when I heard the sound of the window cleaner's ladder being propped up under my window. Only just reached the curtain in time to avoid embarrassment. This week the Hermes. courier has twice caught me out in my towel! Must think I'm a shameless hussy!

There were so many tops that neither myself nor DH could remove I think I have devised a foolproof opening method. I turn the jar upside down and give it a sharpish bang on the worktop, turn it back and hey presto!

Knees!! No spring at all, have to hoist myself up from kneeling.

I have to get myself into a yoga 'dog' position to get up from the floor, quite an art in it!

An ex colleague once rushed to the door wrapped in a towel when the postman knocked with a parcel. Unfortunately he wanted her to sign for it, so she took the form, turned away from him and put it on her hall table. Then of course she realised she couldn't hold the form still, write and keep hold of her towel at the same time. Without thinking, and leaning over with her back to him, she said "Just put your finger on this, will you?". When she turned round, she saw him running down the path!

Well, I kind of turn over, get into that position but not so elegantly then walk my feet forwards, push and can get up. Otherwise I flounder round like a whale for ages. I can't push myself up from a 'knees bent' position
