Slate or plate?

I also like plates and while we're at it, I want my drink in a glass, not a jam jar or mason jar!

I was sorely tempted to say ' take it away and put it on a plate!'

I definitely want my food on a plate - I once had a pizza on a wooden platter - yuk!

This trend will continue if we continue to accept it. They're not mind readers , so speak up and turn the tide I say !

We were with friends and I didn't like to make a fuss, but if it had just been the two of us I would have mentioned it. I agree that wooden platters are even worse for harbouring germs.
Sorry if there has been another thread on this subject. I did a search before I posted and nothing came up.

Oh goodness! Thank you for the link. Is this a kind of madness? Shouldn't we be focusing on the food not the way it is served. How more outrageous can you get than the sanitary towel dessert?

Plate, I do not like the use of wood even more than slate. How is wood hygenic?

Why do some restaurants want to divide everything you order?

Chips in tin cans, beans in pots etc.

We went to one restaurant and even had a jacket potato served on an upright skewer, lord knows what that was all about.

It seems trendy to serve the better class of burger on a board. I ask for a plate. I get one.

There was a recent article on the One Show (I think) which proved that wood is the most hygenic surface for food, something to do with the properties of wood and its barrier against bacteria I was always a bit iffy about it until this article.

Well Im amazed W11 girl : I remember an episode of Dr Finlays casebook where everyone got food poisoning as Janet had been chopping food on a wooden table and they showed her how bacteria had got in the cracks. She was mortified. Ive never used wooden chopping boards since then.

Plates can be sterilised in a dishwasher (hot wash). I agree they are best for serving fiod. I use a smooth glass chopping board.

I like my food on a plate too. Bad enough using cheap cutlery without fighting my food in small space.

me too - I hate wooden platters, plastic, slate, anything that isn't china/earthenware [glazed too please!] - grump, grump.
Have you seen the latest fashion of "dressing" plates for dessert on the table with pudding stuff thrown around and dropped and piped and much handled and...?

And they serve stuff with gravy on a slate!
I was,told years ago that wood chopping boards are more hygienic than plastic. Glass ones may be hygienic but what on earth do they do to your knives?

If you want to see this trend or anything else that you don't like disappear then boycott the place and write to them telling them why. Only if enough people do this will businesses listen!

Plate every time for me and don't get me started about the wooden boards they use as well.

My pet hate are the coffee shops, who wipe the milk pipes that do the frothing, with the same cloth over and over again, similar to what sarahhellenwhitney wrote.
