Displaying emotions

Difficult to word this . No politics please

Have we become too touchy feely? Too American - I feel you pain .

Remembering the Diana hysteria, Charles was uncaring father and husband, queenie very lucky Balmoral wasn't stormed and she was given a public hanging .

'Your people need you' 'show us you care'

Charles Spencer the adulterer and like his father a bully to his wife. He was applauded for a sentimental speech, not forgetting he first blamed the press then switched to the windsors.

I didn't need queenie, who did?

The same is happening now.

Why the need for public display of emotions?

This is not to lay blame for Diana's death or what is happening now, just wondering if anyone thinks as I do, I don't need celebrities or politicians or royals to do a public display of - I feel you pain .

Hope we are spared another rewording of Candle In The Wind

Why do we need this? I really am puzzled

If I had aged so much in a few weeks as TM has I would be leaving it to someone stronger and go and enjoy my H's wealth. She looked dreadful in the DT yesterday. Sorry I can't do links.

anniebach I didn't ask you for your view of Corbyn's response as compared to May's. Since you have been so supportive of May, I asked you whether you have been happy with the way she has responded to this tragedy. As I've said before, I think it has been rather convenient for the Conservative Party that so much ire has been directed at May personally. However, I do think it is natural to expect a Prime Minister to react in a timely, effective and sensitive way in a disaster situation.

anndixty I agree that recent photos of TM make her look dreadful but the press has form for this - if someone is as photographed as she is, there will always be one photo that supports the narrative you want. She wouldn't be getting this bad press ( and photos) though unless there were a group of senior Tories who wanted it. The problem for them is balancing keeping her long enough to avoid another election but not too long to do them irreparable harm. Tricky

Eleothan, I have not been supportive of May and her politics, I have defended her as I would anyone who has been called a murderer, part of a plot to empty London of council tenants, unfeeling because she didn't leap in front of cameras telling us she feels their pain.

Corbyn is Oscar material.
grin
Funny that, because he started out as dull and uninspiring in his vest and scruffy hair and beard (a bit Tom Hanks on Cast Away but much less appealing) but he does seem to have had a makeover and some coaching in the public speaking field.

Jalima1108 Wed 21-Jun-17 10:12:38

in Cast Away

I agree that recent photos of TM make her look dreadful but the press has form for this
Yes, they do Rigby - there are some dreadful photos which can make even the most glamorous of celebs look 'less than appealing'.
Catch me in a bad light and I don't always look so gorgeous either.

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 10:15:27

He did Jalima, bathe change started when he took on a new advisor in December, sugar I have forgotten his name, he came from the community party , will get back with his name

Rigby46 Wed 21-Jun-17 10:18:35

Yes Jalima he does - seems to be making wiser choices about his advisers than TM did

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 10:24:54

Is a member of the communist party a wise choice? Suppose for some it would be

trisher Wed 21-Jun-17 10:27:32

Corbyn was always a good public speaker Jalima1108 that's why the video of his Stop The War speech was so widely circulated.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 10:37:29

Former member of the Communist Party. Stop stirring Annie. Clever politicians choose good people as advisers and not always with the same mindset as themselves.

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 11:18:01

Really Wilma? So labour has Tory advisors and UKIP advisors, Tory has the Respect party advisors and SNP advisors ?

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 11:19:59

Why is saying Corbyn has an advisor from the communist party stirring Wilma?

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 11:24:34

I didn't say that Annie. Read my posts again perhaps? What I did say though is the advisor is a former member of the Communist Party.

durhamjen Wed 21-Jun-17 18:11:40

The reason Corbyn said he felt their pain about the people injured at the mosque is because he knows them.
It is in his constituency and he holds meetings there. He was there overnight after the attack, and even May praised him for his actions at the mosque.
They were both there at the same time; she had been meeting the leaders, he had been in the mosque meeting his friends.

Such a shame you always have to attack everything Corbyn does, Annie. It is making you look foolish.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:15:28

annie I am interested in your understanding of what a communist member means? What exactly do you mean by communism. I'm a bit confused by your statements

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 18:35:32

A person who is a member of the communist party supports communism and this ex member defended Stalin ,

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:37:50

Yes but what do You understand by the term Communism? I can't really understand what you mean by the term

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 18:38:37

I know he knows them Jen but he does not and cannot feel their pain , it is such a silly statement and it irritates me no matter who spouts it , so theatrical

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 18:40:51

Whitewave, if you don't know what communism means may I suggest you read up the history

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:43:26

annie you misunderstand me. I know what I understand by the term communism, but your use of the word seems so different to my understanding that I wondered what you understand by the term.

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 18:46:37

Your understanding of communism and my understanding of it would be sooooo different Whitewave , same as defining socialism, I am a socialist but according to some here I am a Tory supporter

Riverwalk Wed 21-Jun-17 18:54:37

I don't know about feeling others' pain but people can show sympathy and say a kindly word - if I were involved in some terrible incident I'd like to think that an MP, local politician, etc would turn up and show some genuine interest.

Just back to pain, I think you can feel some pain - I'm sure all of us have imagined how it would be if we were in that tower block, or even worse, if that were our grandchildren seen waving out the windows. My stomach lurches every time I see pictures of that burnt blackened shell.

The late Tony Benn lived a few streets away from Grenfell Tower - I'm sure he would have walked around to meet survivors and volunteers and they would have been glad to see him.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:58:06

Lovely chap

Anniebach Wed 21-Jun-17 18:59:03

Yes I am sure all of us felt the same, we can feel, sympathy, empathy, sorrow, anger, but we cannot feel another persons pain,
