Hi me my daughter and my grandson went shopping this morning to buy all of his new school uniform as he is starting secondary school in September.
I bought all of his new uniform as I agreed with my daughter that I was going to. The cost was quite expensive. If you had to buy uniform this year how much did it cost?
My grandsons uniform I bought him 2 of everything
School jumper with school logo £11
School polo shirt with school logo £9
Black school trousers £7
School shoes £2
Pe top £10
Pe shorts £7

Just read some of these out to my (by now perplexed DH)-his comment "have they nothing else to do?" Cheek!

I didn't realise what I was missing, saw the header, thought oh not again and ignored it. Today I wondered how it could possibly have reached 4 pages so I read it.
What a tonic to start the day.Sadly for me it has all been said so I can't contribute, except to say that 2 of my GC are home schooled so please what is Shoe zone and gym kit, they just take the dog for a walk and climb trees to get the cats down, no freezing cold playing fields for them.
I look on my times playing hockey as the worst time of my young life.

Ps last year when my school attending GS was staying for a few days ,he came home with a torn sleeve in his jumper, it cost £19 to replace it as it had to come from the specialist shop.

Bellanonna Tue 22-Aug-17 09:50:00

I didn't mind hockey ann but I hated the gym. All those ropes, vaults and "horses". And those wooden bar things. Not my cup of tea at all. Now a modern gym, with bikes and treadmills ... much better.
We had to go up to a specialist uniform shop in London for the initial uniform outlay, then there were often school sales after that. Ours was a rather "poncy" uniform, thankfully done away with later on. My GC can get theirs anywhere as long as it's the school colours. GS starting in September has to get a sweatshirt with the school logo but other bits can come from anywhere, I wonder if Tree100 could let me know where the £2 shoes are? Like her, I'd be happy to buy two pairs. Absolute bargain.

Thanks Tree100 for kicking off what has evolved into a very amusing thread (even if Mr Newquay doesn't think so! That's men for you!)

Perhaps Lona could consider home schooling as the solution to her uniform problem- oh hang on a box on the M56 won't really do will it?

MiniMouse Tue 22-Aug-17 10:14:19

Aggie Kilts are a wonderful idea - they can be passed on to any DDs that Tree100 may have to provide uniform for in the future without adapting them!

Lona Tue 22-Aug-17 10:19:00

Actually, the box on the side of the M56 has solved all the problems!
No sign of the GC since!
Phew!

When you think what children's clothes of any sort used to cost even a generation ago, all this stuff is incredibly cheap now - except if you want to get properly fitted shoes (Clarks etc), they still cost more than the rest of the outfit combined.

Jalima1108 Tue 22-Aug-17 12:00:11

What am I supposed to do with 39 pairs of mismatched socks now Lona?

I need 39 children with two left feet.
All my efforts and I have no idea where the M56 is sad

lemongrove Tue 22-Aug-17 13:43:06

I don't think anyone know that Jalima ( where the M56 is)?
School days are so expensive, my DH (Mr Bunter)will have to do an extra days work to pay for the ski-ing trips, new polo pony
And all the postal orders we send which never seem to arrive for little Billy at Greyfriars School.Although after all the contents of the tuck box being eaten so quickly, he is not so little these days.

NanaandGrampy Tue 22-Aug-17 14:02:33

Ah Bellanonna he had his hands full with a trunk of spare plimsolls for those less fortunate .

Wheniwasyourage Tue 22-Aug-17 14:24:10

This is getting ridiculous. There would be no need for tuck boxes or holey plimsolls if we all just went back to the good old days and sent children up chimneys where they belong. Don't know what the modern world is coming to.

Christinefrance Tue 22-Aug-17 17:09:20

I so agree Wheniwasyourage children nowadays are so pampered, no chimneys or going down t'pit , even the scullery maid has disappeared. Bring back the Beadle and bowls of gruel ! !

Jalima1108 Tue 22-Aug-17 17:32:22

bowls of gruel - DGD had to try gruel as part of a history lesson, she was quite reluctant apparently!

Bring back the good old days when children were thankful for a slice of dry bread and a drink of water from the well.
Spoilt I tell you, spoilt.

Jalima1108 Tue 22-Aug-17 17:33:14

The M56 is near somewhere called Dunkirk apparently

Katek Tue 22-Aug-17 17:52:49

Not THE Dunkirk I presume??

My lot are all down for Gordonstoun-yomping across snow covered heather glens in their plimsolls is very character building. We breed 'em tough up here

lemongrove Tue 22-Aug-17 18:40:31

Not that tough though, as Prince Charles used to be a pupil.Although I did hear that he begged his Grandma to take him away.

Jane10 Tue 22-Aug-17 18:55:07

I meant to ask if anyone has seen my daps? I've left them somewhere and can't face another trip to Shoezone.

Tizliz Tue 22-Aug-17 19:04:09

Monty python will be turning in his grave - well you know what I mean

aggie Tue 22-Aug-17 19:21:45

Just so you know kilts are unisex , so that is why no 6 has a well darned kilt wink

lemongrove Tue 22-Aug-17 20:47:54

Hope that you didn't leave any needles in it.?

FarNorth Tue 22-Aug-17 23:46:39

Only a large safety pin.

lemongrove Wed 23-Aug-17 08:19:58

Oh, a safety pin is essential, so that when the North wind blows they don't inadvertently establish their credentials.?

Bellanonna Wed 23-Aug-17 08:27:58

Would a safety pin actually keep their credentials in order? Those North winds are pretty..... windy ☹️
