The one song that still moves you

For me, the one song that can always bring a lump to my throat is Eva Cassidy singing SONGBIRD. The first time I heard it, I was entering somebody's dining room with a group of people just behind me. This song was playing softly in the background and I literally stopped in my tracks and gasped. (Of course, everyone else bumped into me from behind!) What song does the same for you?

Remember this from my parents’ record collection- it’s so beautiful but so sad.

How could I have forgotten to mention Andrea Bocelli? So many of his songs send shivers down my spine too Llamedos, one especially is "L'abitudine"

Blimey, I've got loads - I love music so find it hard to pick just one. However, here goes:

Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music
The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel
Someone Like You by Adele
Everybody Hurts by REM
Reflections of my Life by Marmalade

I once played a few sad tunes on YouTube and I got a 'drop-down' message asking me if I wanted counselling as all the songs were 'break-up' songs! No, I just felt like a bit of a mooch, as we all do sometimes.

Neil Diamond singing 'The Story of my Life'. My husband and I were married for only 1year and 8 days when he died from brain tumours and cancer. Just before he went into a coma, he told me he had just heard it for the first time on the radio, and that it was our song. It was about 4 weeks after his funeral that I heard it, and the first time I cried. I bought the record and played it over and over, and it helped me so much. I still love it, the words mean so much to me. He died in 1986, and I still think of him every day. We were married at home, because he was so ill, was only given 3 months, but managed 16 months. Believe it or not, it was the happiest time of my life. After 2 disasterous marriages, when i believed i would never meet the right person, i met my soulmate, and since then no one could take his place.

Any Puccini aria and ‘Baker St’by Gerry Raferty and Nilsson ‘Without you’and ‘Ca sera sera’ by Doris Day. To be fair there are a number of songs and hymns too that can really impact on me.

As soon as I read your headline Songbird Eva Cassidy came into my head.

Puff the magic Dragon, so poignant that children grow up ( as they should) but grow away from us.

"Happy" by Pharrell Williams. This brings happy memories of our dear little grandson and was played at his funeral.

Bathsheba Mon 05-Feb-18 15:40:05

'Time to say Goodbye' by Sarah Brightman. Don't know if anyone's said that yet?

newnanny Mon 05-Feb-18 15:44:59

You'll Never Walk Alone - Jerry and Pacemakers. My son huge LFC fan and told us he wants it at his funeral. It makes me sad to hear it. Eienaldi - The Waves - i chose this music for both of my dearest aunties at their funerals. They both loved waking along beach watching the waves. She's the One - Daniel Beddingfield - our wedding song. I Don't Want to Talk About it - Rod Stewart - reminds me of breaking up with first love and thinking I would never fall in love again.
