For me, the one song that can always bring a lump to my throat is Eva Cassidy singing SONGBIRD. The first time I heard it, I was entering somebody's dining room with a group of people just behind me. This song was playing softly in the background and I literally stopped in my tracks and gasped. (Of course, everyone else bumped into me from behind!) What song does the same for you?

Thank you Bathsheba x

Luckygirl, I have never heard of One Moment More, so beautiful

Luckygirl Sun 04-Feb-18 13:15:44

If we're talking Eva Cassidy, then it has to be Fields of Gold.

But top of my weepy list is www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5R-s3laVSs

If you don't know Mindy Smith then check her out on google - amazing singer - Angel Doves is a gem.

Also Richard Strauss Four Last Songs - wonderful!

Adele singing "Million Years Ago" - I can not get past the lyrics "I miss my mother............" without filling up. Just writing this is setting me off sad

Dedicated to the one I love - it was popular when DH and I first started seeing each other

Without you by Harry Nilsson - reminds of the heartache and pain I felt when DH died.

Everything I Do, by Bryan Adams. Intensely personal for me and still reduces me to tears.

MissAdventure Sun 04-Feb-18 11:48:46

'Those were the days of our lives' by Queen.

giulia Sun 04-Feb-18 11:48:38

What is it about sad songs that make them so EXTRA beautiful? I also love EVERYBODY HURTS and Springsteen's PHILADELPHIA. My daughters groan at me and say these are songs that bring on doom. I don't agree.

Charleygirl Sun 04-Feb-18 11:44:51

Amazing Grace still brings tears to my eyes. My parents loved it so it was played at their funerals which were only a few weeks apart.

MissAdventure Sun 04-Feb-18 11:44:25

Without You, Harry Nilsson - the one and only record bought for me as a romantic gesture (by my first love).
Sound of Silence another one you just have to listen to, the last rendition I loved was done by Disturbed - such a distinctive version.

Marydoll Sun 04-Feb-18 11:24:48

Me too for Roberta Flack - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.
What good taste we have. smile

paddyann Sun 04-Feb-18 11:24:16

giulia it was written by Ewan McColl ,folk singer and father of Kirsty McColl of the Christmas in New York song with the Pogues

MissAdventure Sun 04-Feb-18 11:21:59

So many songs, these days. 'Sound of silence', 'Everybody Hurts' and 'The first time ever I saw your face' come to mind straight away.
I haven't heard some of the others mentioned here. I'll have to listen to them and have a weep, I think.

giulia Sun 04-Feb-18 11:17:27

Artyfarty Must listen to this version - she wrote Songbird, I think. Lemongrove and Poshgran - I agree that "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face" is another heartstopper. Wasn't it written by Flack's partner?
