Pink hair??

I have always said that when I went grey I would dye my hair pink.

I am nearly 70 and there is barely a sign of grey. I have long nipple length hair which is very dark brown and I have this yen to dye the bottom 6" or so pink. I could always cut it off if I did not like it.

So....shall I do it? How might I do it, as it is very dark and might not take dye? Am I mad?

I had some pink. powder you put on with a sponge. It washes out. I'll see if I can find it and tell you the name of it. It was very cheap.

Go for it. As you say if you don't like it you can always cut it off.
I've had a yen, believe it or not, for extremely short hair but am afraid that I'll end up looking like a bulldog, so daren't.

Ah - but I am daft! Perhaps that is the best reason for doing it! grin

Don't be daft, pink hair on older people looks awful. Why not enjoy your still-dark hair. Perhaps enhance it with a warm coloured rinse.

What age should you be Lucky? Your age of course! What have you got to lose? As somebody else said, it’s one of the (few!) advantages of getting older - we no longer have to care what anybody else thinks. But please post a photo!

Recently gave in and decided to go all over platinum grey with purple streaks, absolutely loved it, got lots of compliments BUT... after 2 or 3 goes at this (professionally done) my hair is now in dreadful condition, lots of hairs broken off and more split ends than I've ever had in my life. Changed hairdresser and now trying to get my hair back in to a reasonable condition so beware.

wot ?

Go for it Luckygirl, as somebody else said you only live once and it isn't irrevocable. I asked the hair dresser the other day whether a bright colour would wash out or fade as I would like something done but spent ages growing out my highlights/dyed hair as I wanted to see what my natural colour was as it is years since I have seen it. I started going grey in my 20's so had died it since then. I got fed up with looking like a badger so started off with a few years of blonde highlights, went completely blonde and then went to grey. I still have some dark hair but am mainly white so I am worried that I will end up with some ugly looking faded locks if I take the plunge. The Hairdresser was completely unhelpful saying it depended whether the dye was permanent or temporary and even then you wouldn't know until after it was done.

Yes yes yes!! I have tried everything from DIY to professional intervention to get mine to stay purple, but everything washes out of my hair very quickly no matter what I use ?

Nipple length hair.....depends where your nipples are these days. Could be waist length, even.

Marieliz, my mother was the same - what they called strawberry blonde when younger and still not grey - just very faded - when she died at 97. Mind you at around 80 it gave her trouble with a neighbour who accused her of lying when she said she didn't dye it! There was a falling out because my mother wouldn't admit it!

I am very lucky to have the same gene - 69 and still no grey - my blonde hair just went a lot darker. I brighten it up with John Frieda Go Blonder spray - so much cheaper and less time-consuming faff than highlights, and not at all obviously growing out if I forget it for a while.

Balayage is a kind of "dip dye" Grannyknot.

SueDonim Sat 28-Jul-18 13:59:36

Nipple length hair? So maybe half an inch long or perhaps one inch if you're breastfeeding. grin

sarahellenwhitney Sat 28-Jul-18 13:47:31

Nipple length hairgrinnever heard that one before !

minxie Sat 28-Jul-18 13:46:50

Go for it, but get it done professionally or you could regret it

GrannyGravy13 Sat 28-Jul-18 13:34:00

Go for it luckygirl ?

lesley4357 Sat 28-Jul-18 13:30:59

Go for it. What's wrong with being "weird or eccentric"? One of the benefits of getting older is not giving a damn!!

nana5852 Sat 28-Jul-18 13:20:47

Yes do go for it. I loved going turquoise recently and at 66 I am less concerned about the judgement of others and it's so liberating!

Purplepoppies Sat 28-Jul-18 12:52:03

I have to say my nipples aren't that long ?.
I dye my hair all the time. It's normally a shade of purple but the next dye I've bought is slightly darker. I have short spikey hair and don't dress (or act ) my age! (Late 40s)!!
Do whatever makes you happy, wear whatever makes you feel good. It's nobody's business but yours!

Stella14 Sat 28-Jul-18 12:40:25

Absolutely go for it. We only live once. We should have fun with it! ?

Luckygirl Sat 28-Jul-18 12:39:26

Nipple length with bra.smile

PamelaJ1 Sat 28-Jul-18 12:29:56

David???I too thought half way down my back may have been a better description!
Jennills hairdoes look stunning but as I get fed up of red nail polish after 3days it wouldn’t do for me.
I’d have to do the charity shave.

farview Sat 28-Jul-18 12:20:16

Oh yes..do it...enjoy it..have a great party also .

dragonfly46 Sat 28-Jul-18 12:13:15

I dyed my hair for years then my hairdresser told me to stop doing it as my natural colour, blond, grey, silver was much more attractive and would cost a fortune if I were to replicate it with dye! I have never looked back.
