Charleyg Just don't stop visiting the kitchen. We would miss you. smile

Funny how at one point I was thinking...hmm the Olympus desktop photo file is on the messy side. Opened the file up about two hours ago. Have been sorting through it ever since. I've made a little progress. Enough for the time being. Away to do useful stuff. Don't ask wink, if I stop to tell you what's on today's to-do list you would all vacate the kitchen and go for a long lie down in a darkened room. grin

Thinking of Panache and her husband and how kind of him to message us at a difficult time!

Charleygirl Sun 02-Sept-18 15:31:58

I agree Kitty so kind and with so much on his mind. Fingers and toes crossed.

I was given my Echo dot for Mother's Day. Alexa is the voice of the Echo gadgets. She tells me the time when I wake up so that I can decide whether or not it's time to get up! She also plays me any radio station I ask for and music on demand. My GC have them as well and the oldest GS (14) has automated his bedroom - lights out? No problem! I can also call any of the family who also has Alexa, assuming that he/she is close by the Echo at the same time! I know there are many other applications, but think that's about enough for the time being.
Awful news about Panache. She hasn't been with us in the kitchen so very long, but her posts have always been enjoyable. No wonder so many of us noticed her absence. Please give her husband our very best wishes, soop.

Evening all,

Sorry to hear Panache is so poorly.

I agree with Maw , I was thinking about this earlier but didn't really know how to frame it. I consider a great number of ladies on GN as 'Virtual' friends and we are all at an age whereby tomorrow isn't guaranteed....did I really just say that????? But you will know what I mean.

I think it would be incredibly helpful to keep a list of either personal email addresses or telephone numbers so when we are worried we can just reach out.

Oh Anno I downloaded an app and I can now tell Alexa to add things to my shopping list !! That's been useful although the little boys worked that out pretty darn quick and we had a few more packets of biscuits than usual !!

Gagagran Sun 02-Sept-18 17:17:24

Oh no! Poor Panache. There's always something for someone and this time it's her. Thanks for the update soop and we all hope that she is much improved next time we hear.

Not sure about a list of contacts. Maybe it would be better to ask if GNHQ would act as forwarder (like a PM) to enquire, if a regular goes missing? It might mean giving HQ a contact for their records and would have to be voluntary. Not everyone wants to feel they are being kept track of. Would that work?

soop Sun 02-Sept-18 17:17:42

I'm wearing a semblance of a halo. wink Have taken all the books off shelves, dusted and re positioned them. Also cleared out and cleaned two kitchen cupboards. Still haven't got around to sorting one of the cupboards in the utility room - but - it's a start.

Here's a laugh on me. When at one time Galen would remark on Alexa I honestly thought that she, (Alexa) was a member of her family. Which I suppose she is in a way.

Someone, sometime, help to drag me into the amazing world of advanced technology. You will need to be very patient.

When I have an update on Panache's condition, I shall share with you asap.

It is log-off time for me. I shall read the Sunday paper. MacSporran is listening to the Proms.

Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday evening. smile moon

So sorry to hear that Panache is so poorly, I hope that she`s feeling better very soon, and back with us. A couple of people on here have my email address, including dear Soop, who also has my home address, but like Gagagran suggests, maybe GNHQ could store some details like email addresses and phone numbers, just in case. Also thinking of how a certain person reacted when we were getting worried about her, she wasn`t happy at all.
GrannyQ, lovely photos, that greenery looks so blessedly cool.
My son and DIL came yesterday and showed me how to assemble the new Christmas tree, but knowing me, I`ll have forgotten by December

Greyduster Sun 02-Sept-18 18:18:02

Get well soon, Panache or who else will I have to discuss our beloved Pembrokeshire with?

annsixty Sun 02-Sept-18 19:01:01

As I am the one most likely, because of my age, to "disappear" I am going to add my GN friend to the people my D must get in touch with.
I hope she does not mind this, I haven't asked her yet, as it seems a bit extreme and morbid, but I would like my very special virtual friends on GN to know what has happened to me.

cornergran Sun 02-Sept-18 19:10:28

Exactly greyd. Wishing panache a comfortable, healing night and sending many thanks to Mr P for making contact and taking the time to update us as he can.

Just a flying visit, family for a couple more days then onwards to the convalescent home. It’s wonderful but oh so tiring, not complaining, just saying.

MawBroon Sun 02-Sept-18 22:13:36

I would just leave the C tree up if I were you Callgirl grin
Start a trend?
Although I bet the C...mas decs will be up in John Lewis any minute now!

Very sad to hear about panache bring so poorly and like others would like to send my good wishes via soop If anyone had told me I would form an attachment to folk I’ve never met, and find myself concerned for their welfare, I don’t think I’d have believed it possible. I’ve a good life and much to be thankful for and enjoy in it. I’m not lonely or unhappy, well most of time anyway, and have much in my life that enriches and stimulates me - yet somehow fellow kitchen folk have become part of my life. I don’t particularly understand how that’s happened or why but there it is.
Please don’t disappear Ann, we would worry about you as we’ve done over panache! I’m not sure what the answer is to deal with an absence such as that to ensure folk know what’s what in the event of illness etc.
My guests go off tomorrow and I’ve survived to tell the tale. I’m tired and need to get myself organised this week, amidst the start of volunteer duties resuming, we go off on holiday next Monday and I want to arrive there without being totally cream crackered on arrival!
Wishing you all a restful nights sleep x

Greyduster Mon 03-Sept-18 08:53:10

Hello the kitchen. I am sitting here waiting for my grandson to arrive for his last full day with us before term starts. I think it will be an indoor day today, as the weather is set to take a turn for the worst. DH has booked him an hour’s tuition at a nearby golf course this afternoon, but in the meantime, I think we will make some biscuits and do a bit of painting - if I can prize him away from his phone!

I agree with you, Gq, about the way in which you form a bond with people you’ve never met - some you will never meet. It is a concept that is totally alien to my DH. He struggles to get his head round it and worries when I go off to a meetup. “They might be axe murderers for all you know!” he said of the first one I went to. “Yes,” said I “but they will probably be perfectly charming and amusing axe murderers!”?.

We are off down to Wales tommorrow to stay with DH’s sister for a couple of days. She has just been diagnosed with dementia and we want to see how she is coping, as, in her current confused and delusional state, she refuses to let her other sister, who is very anxious about her, anywhere near her. She lives alone, but has good neighbours, fortunately. Not an ideal situation, though and very sad. I will have plenty of data on my phone (no wi-if!) to keep an eye on what’s going down in the kitchen, hopefully. Not looking forward to the drive down there.
I will look in later to see if there is any news of Panache.

kittylester Mon 03-Sept-18 10:17:30

I agree too. It is strange how we feel we have a bond with people on GN, especially the kitcheners. I spend a lot of my time running hither and thither but hate not to see what is going on with my friends.

I am hoping we hear good news of Panache and that your sister in law is doing ok GD.

Am I able to ask for a little support please. I'm going to the hairdresser and I want a drastic rethink. I have been friends with my hair dresser for more years than I care to remember but I think we have both settled into a rut. I want out but she will try to talk me out of it. Wish me luck. grin

And Maisie is at the vets, also having the chop!! Sure she will be fine. smile

Greyduster Mon 03-Sept-18 11:04:23

GS has just produced his first batch of Anzac biscuits. There was mess, there was drama, there was much filching bits of mixture, but we got there! Have some before he and Grandad eat them all,

Charleygirl Mon 03-Sept-18 11:15:55

They look yummy, I could scoff them drinking a cup of coffee sitting out in the sun watching my washing dry.

annodomini Mon 03-Sept-18 11:42:53

What sun, Charley? It's raining here, just when I was searching the web for some garden furniture for my newly refurbished ex-wilderness. Nothing much to do today so still in my pjs and soon it will be time to think about lunch!

Jalima1108 Mon 03-Sept-18 11:57:13

Oh yes, please Greyduster, particularly as yesterday was Australian Fathers' Day! Clever boy!

It's a lovely sunny day out there - but I had decided to have a good clear-out of paperwork. Perhaps I should wait for a rainy day to do that.

ChaosIncorporated Mon 03-Sept-18 12:08:49

Sitting down with a quiet cup of coffee, having waved off the visitors, so one of the delicious anzac biscuits is most welcome, thank you greyd
I am so sorry to hear about your SIL. Such a heartbreaking diagnosis flowers

Sending every good wish to panache and MrP. So pleased you have been able to pass on our good wishes, soop , and that you are a contact point in "real life". Hopefully there will be some positive news soon.....crossing fingers here, for her.

If there is excess energy available after the marathon kitchen cupboard cleaning, then my airing cupboard is sorely in need of sorting out!
I can offer cake.

kitty ....if you have trust in your hairdresser, I am a great believer in asking for their style advice. In the first stage of being single after a very long marriage, I actually told my hairdresser to do whatever she liked....I just needed to look like a "new me".
Can you just tell her you need to look like a "new you"?

It is a gorgeous day here in the southwest, tempting me to think of an indian summer. However, I spotted a robin this morning so he may know better!

soop Mon 03-Sept-18 12:14:58

Thank you, Greyduster I shall enjoy one or two of those delicious looking biscuits with my freshly made coffee.

There is no further update concerning Panache. Mr Panache knows that us lot are rooting for both of them. I also sent him a host of gentle hugs. I shall report back just as soon as I've news. sunshine

Charleygirl Mon 03-Sept-18 12:16:10

anno maybe you should think about moving because others also have sunshine. Admittedly it may get cooler here in NW London mid week but it will warm up again next weekend. I am hoping that this weather will stay until C but perhaps that is being a tad over optimistic.

grannyqueenie Mon 03-Sept-18 12:51:51

Oh I just fancy a biscuit, thanks gduster and that boy! Good therapy for him before “big school” kicks in for real. Good luck with those travels, not such an easy journey from where you are and I guess an even harder task when you get there.
Having sorted out the guest bedroom and bathroom and the ensuing laundry, I’m now in post visitor slump mode trying to process why I, both of us in fact, found it such hard work entertaining folk we’ve known for 45 years. We found ourselves frustrated and puzzled to see a couple younger than us who seem to be happy settling into “old age” so readily and imho prematurely. I’ve various bits that don’t work so well these days, had a hip replaced and will probably need more but I rage against it and want to do as much as I can, for myself while I can - use it or lose it I tell myself, I’m only 67 for goodness sake! Anyway in the post visitor debrief we concluded that we’re not as tolerant as we should be but are also very glad that we married each other!
kitty good luck with the new look..... you may want to consult with maw,, I believe she has recent experience in these matters!,smile
Right I need to get off my bahookie and get going or I’ll turn into my friend shock

annodomini Mon 03-Sept-18 13:00:26

Now there's a word I haven't heard for 50-odd years. I also must get off my bahookie (bahoochie?) and have something to eat. grin

kittylester Mon 03-Sept-18 13:07:57

I'm just waiting for a colour to 'take' and then I'm having a toner applied - scary!

chaos you made me smile! I'm quite happily married and hope the new me doesn't cause a divorce! grin

I was hoping for news of Panache so I'll pop back later.

Hoping ann is ok too!

What are Anzac biscuits? Are they gf by any chance?
