Hey Jude

I was on a train from Devon to Manchester when another young person produced a transistor radio on which Hey Jude was playing. We all sang along - glorious song, happy days indeed.

Hey Jude really is such a singalong song, isn't it? Almost impossible not to sing with it, especially the 'na na na nanana naaaa' ending!

Impossible to choose just one of their songs as my favourite. Along with Hey Jude, it would be Here Comes The Sun, Something, Eleanor Rigby, I'm Looking Through You and so on and so on. Sorry, there are just so many good ones!

I fell for the trumpet player in the band at a holiday camp. I was 15, he was called Mike something (so much more sophisticated than Mick, I thought). He played Something one evening and I convinced myself he was playing it for me! Oh the joys and the angst of being 15!! So I would have to add that one to my 'favourites' list as well

Not really a Beatles fan but 'In my life', is a very poignant song.

‘Hey Jude’ is one of my favourites to play on the piano and I sing along to it (when no-one is at home! It’s more the singing than the playing that tends to cause people to flee!). If I have an out and out favourite I think it’s ‘The Fool on the Hill’, but really who could choose just one?

I am a Beatles 'nut'. I have many memories of seeing them and even being on stage with them back in the day. I have also spoken on the radio about my experiences. Hey Jude has always been my favourite. It's my ringtone on my phone!

I find it quite a sad melody. It always reminds me too of a book I can never reread, Thomas Hardy’s ‘Jude the Obscure’, because of the little boy’s suicide and his note, “We are too many”.
I am sad now thinking about it.

It was written about John Lennon's son, Julian, I believe.

The Beatles songs were all ones you could join in with- we'd be on the dance floor singing our heads off. John was not much of a dad to Julian, he took no interest in him and then ran off with blinking Yoko.?
Still love their music as it doesn't seem dated at all. And I know all the words!

Oh lucky you KatyK. I love Hey Jude too. In fact I love all of them. They bring back lovely youthful memories.

Oh gosh just the opening bars of that song bring back so many memories - teenage parties, first taste of cider, falling in love for the first time and then breaking my heart (at work in the pub where I served meals) when he left boarding school and went home to Leeds!! It's such an iconic song and came out just at the time I started to grow up!!

12-13 yrs old at a summer fair with my first "boyfriend" we'd only known each other about a month 'I wanna hold your hand" came on over the sound system. We looked at each other and shyly held out our hands. We didn't let go for about an hour
Not exactly my favourite but the most memorable.

Last week I was woken at 5am by the refuse collectors below my apartment singing “Hey Jude.” It made me smile! My favourite Beatles song is “I wanna hold your hand.” I think it is a distillation of what it’s like to be a teenager and experiencing your first love affair. I saw them twice in Birmingham in the 60s. The second time they were taken under cover to the police station where my father worked, but his office wasn’t near where they were given a cup of tea and posed for pictures in policemen’s helmets, so he didn’t know they were there! My next door neighbour was one of the officers who escorted them, and was full of it the next day. I was so disappointed my dad didn’t meet them and get their autographs!

Hey Jude for personal reasons

I don't know much more than just the hits of the Beatles, but of them, I think, Eleanor Rigby is my favourite.
I love sad songs.

But I also liked Taxman.

I liked the refrain, Taxman! Mr Wilson.

So nicely politically balanced

I was doing nurse training and my memories of Hey Jude (can it really be 50 years, gulp!) was when I was on call at night and learning to "scrub" for ops and the team all sang along to this.

My front door bell is "Hey Jude".

One of my favourites is "The Long and Winding Road" but it's really hard to pick just one as there are so many great tunes and great words. They were brilliant.

I think Hey Jude is my favourite too.
Last year was the 50th anniversary of the Sergeant Pepper album, and I came across one I hadn't heard before -" I'm fixing a hole". I couldn't get it out of my mind.
I like "Something" too - one of George's. Lovely guitar solo.

They wrote so many amazing songs. I was madly in love with George. I loved him in A Hard Days Night singing Happy Just To Dance With You. Sigh.

Oh KatyK do you remember going down to the Cavern at lunchtime and getting in to see them for the lunch time show at 1pm the price was 1/6d.
I love all their songs but my favourite is Mr Postman from their Please Please Me LP,not written by them but I just love it.

No glamma I never went to the Cavern as I was in Birmingham but I saw them most times they came here. George came to speak to a group of us once! I won a competition to sit on stage with them once, chased Paul around the town hall and many more memories.

Whoa, KatyK! I would have joined you chasing Paul!
Too hard to choose a favourite Beatles song, but among them are Things we Said Today, A Day in The Life, Because, Michelle (DD2’s middle name), Golden Slumbers etc.
