Where is Book Heaven?

I'm having a grand clear out and am trying to be ruthless on getting rid of stuff that's gathering dust.

Amongst all the ex-dearly-loved-possessions I have accumulated hundreds of books, most of which I won't read again (or never read in the first place). I can't bear the idea of just chucking them out as rubbish, but the local charity shops are inundated and are stating they can't accept any more book donations.

Any ideas where to take them? Most are in vgc, some of the classics are a bit tatty but readable - even them I can't bring myself to sling in the rubbish bag.

If you haven’t already tried the British Heart Foundation they will possibly collect any you have. Worth looking on line.

The Rotary Club in my area takes book donations as they have regular book sales through the year.

I give mine to The British Heart Foundation and Butterfly Hospice shops. They`ve never refused them yet.

Following Gillybob's post, I went to Alnwick last year and discovered Barter's Bookshop in the old station, it's such an amazing place, completely unique. A friend and I spent a lovely afternoon browsing the books and there's a cafe on site that sells lovely cakes and scones. Should any of you find yourself in Alnwick well worth a visit.

Oxfam bookshop took 4 huge boxes from me when I cleared my late brother's house early last year. They even collected them but the best bit was when they emailed after a few months and had made almost £200 so far from sales.

Ecci51 If you look at the Ziffit site, you enter barcode on book, cd that gives you price, free courier service collects them, it is not like amazon is what I meant. Hope that helps.
