This morning while applying mascara, I remembered the 'spit and scrub' type of the sixties. the small black and deep pink plastic case, the tiny black brush, and then 'Outdoor Girl' popped into my mind. Curious to see if anyone else remembered it I googled 'Outdoor Girl' - and it seems it is still going strong. Why do our brains retain these small facts? I know the words to the advertising jingle for 'Richard Shops'. Obviously I now need to steer my brain on to slightly more significant matters like paying some bills and walking the dog, but I did enjoy that little foray into my teenage years!
'A million housewives everyday, pick up a tin of beans and say -Beanz, Meanz, Heinz'. Yes, I too remember the mascara with the cute little brush. Twiggy lashes - those that were drawn on with eyeliner under your eyes and if you were artistic enough they could look real, if not, then they looked awful.
I'm a secret lemonade drinker R Whites R Whites. I loved that one where he was dancing by the open fridge door and his wife cops him. They don't make them like they used to and yes, I remember that mascara too. A bit of spit on the brush and you were well away.
Remember the mascara well. Used to use saliva for the moisture. Horror of horror nowadays. Anyone remember the hard toothpaste in a round tin. Used to have to scrub the stuff with your tooth brush to get any on.
Singlegrannie, yes - I had forgotten Miner's 'Way out pink' - I wore that too. The 'Richard Shops' jingle is driving me crazy right now - 'wish I hadn't thought of it this morning. I also remember 'tasty, tasty' etc. but not what the product was - so that wasn't very good advertising! I do agree that it's a wonder we didn't all go blind, or suffer with non stop conjunctivitis thanks to spitting on the brush or the mascara block. Like many other things that would be frowned upon now, we somehow survived without damage.
Bradgfordlass you forgot the best bit after "cooee Mr Shifter" on the PG Tips ad, its "daad do you know the piano's on my foot?" and dad says, (tinkling the ivories) "you hum it son, I'll play it"
Also 'go to work on an egg'. 'Roses grow on you' Norman Vaughan I think.
Does anyone else remember Harry Worth, standing on the corner of a glass window, and lifting an arm and leg in the air? My sister and I used to do lots when out shopping with mum. Not sure if it was for an advert or not though.
Norman Vaughan, was he the one who used to go "swinging" (thumb up) "dodgy" (thumb down) Harry Worth takes me back, he never gets a mention these days. He always came across as a bumbling old duffer but that was his act. Can't say I found him very funny though.
Does anyone remember Gordon Moores toothpaste? It was deep red. It stained your gums so apparently made your teeth whiter. I’m desperately trying to recall other things from the past now !
1001 cleans a big, big carpet for less than half a crown. I think that's how it goes. Toberlone out on its own. If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit join our Club.
Not only useless jingles I remember. I am now 77 and I remember the Reg No of my Dad's first car, also remember the telephone number we had when I was growing up. I will never need this info again but retain it, other things I do need or would like to remember I can't
