Is anyone else an ageing rock chic ???? I'm watching The Killers on BBC 2. Both my daughter's are watching in their respective houses. They both texted to tell me to watch.
I love rock music, always have and don't think that will ever change.

I'm looking forward to Kylie tonight does anyone know what time she is due on,I loved The Killers what a showman he is,I was not impressed with Stoemsy and switched off not my kind of music at all.I'm so pleased the weather is good for them this year.

kittylester Sun 30-Jun-19 09:41:37

I think Kylie is on this afternoon, glamma.

glammanana Sun 30-Jun-19 10:01:37

Thanks for that kitty

Loved The Killers last night. My daughter is at Glastonbury so it's also a way of being with her. I went to lots of music festivals in my 20s and loved them. Long live Prog Rock!!!

I'm another one who doesn't understand the amount of coverage given to Glastonbury. Local radio has had someone on site since Monday (one day they actually spent time talking to someone who was painting the bins!). There are at least 3 people from local TV reporting from the site plus all those from national radio and TV.

I accept many people like the festival but for some reason BBC seem to think everyone is interested.

Me too. Not musically gifted myself, but love music. Bruce Springsteen, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Bob Segar. So I'm an ageing rocker. But love golden oldies from late 60s onward and Motown too. And some, but not all, current music. But no love for rapping. Love going to concerts. Going to see Gladys Knight next week. Think music keeps you young.

Grandma70 lets not forget Cardiff Singer of the World, and BBC Young Musician of theYear.
Harder to find, granted, but usually on BBC4.

I am tempted to watch the Jeff Goldblum , and Mavis Staples set tonight on BBC4.

I'm still into the music of my formative years but prefer my creature comforts so tonight, Sunday, my husband is taking me to see the Eagles in Liverpool and we'll be staying in a hotel next to the arena - that's the way to do it

anitamp1 Sun 30-Jun-19 10:42:20

Lucky you Orly. The Eagles are another favourite of mine. Unfortunately they didn't come to Wales and we couldn't make the Birmingham date. Enjoy.

Aepgirl Sun 30-Jun-19 10:42:55

Yes, I M also dipping in and out of the Glastonbury broadcast. If it wasn’t for the awful loos I might just go there myself!

dogsmother Sun 30-Jun-19 10:49:54

I am so envious of my daughter who is there currently in super accommodation.
I went to Reading when young and again when late fifties a couple of years ago and loved it. I danced all the way through. I have to say I appreciate most of the music little I don’t enjoy although of course there are some I go back for more of ?

loltara Sun 30-Jun-19 10:52:51

Greatest music festival on the planet. I thought this year's line up was poor, but after watching Killers et al yesterday, my mind has been changed. Kylie????? Have worked on Glasto and it's a maze of the brilliant and the bizarre.

Grandma70s Sun 30-Jun-19 10:58:10

mawbroonsback - yes, I grant you there are those every two years, but they don’t dominate. They are treated as if for specialists, often at obscure times. Glastonbury is all over the place.

Amry64 Sun 30-Jun-19 11:05:27

Thank you everybody - I'm glad I'm not the only one - The Killers were great - I listen to their albums in the car! Wish I'd gone to Glastonbury in my youth when I was able. My boast is that I did see Pink Floyd at Crystal Palace in (1970?). Anyone else remember being there?

Blondiescot Sun 30-Jun-19 11:12:18

I'm an ageing punk/indie chick and loved The Killers and George Ezra (saw him in Glasgow earlier this year and he was brilliant) - I also absolutely love Stormzy. Lewis Capaldi was great- what a way to make an entrance! I have a very eclectic taste in music and apologise to no-one for that. I often sit my with headphones in on the bus on train and chuckle to myself because I'm sure no-one would ever guess the kind of music I'm listening to from the way I look. They're probably thinking Michael Buble or something (not that there's anything wrong with him if that's what you like, by the way!) when I've actually got Green Day, MCR, Foo Fighters or Linkin Park blasting out...

How are the officials dealing with the heat. Haven't seen any water sprays for the crowds, think sun lotion is given out but for the numbers involved? No doubt alcohol/drugs will be well consumed adding to the problem of sun burn, heat exhaustion and dehydration. Or is it only festival goers who have common sense in this weather. Love the rock music but glad I am at home enjoying.

NannyHill Sun 30-Jun-19 11:41:21

We watched Liam then the Killers, both were great. I’m afraid to day that all my 3 children grew up with Oasis and watching them reminds me of them getting ready to go out on a Saturday night with music blasting. And yes texts were going back and forth from us all.

kittylester Sun 30-Jun-19 11:48:52

I thought Liam was dire!

Craftycat Sun 30-Jun-19 11:55:03

I was disappointed with The Killers - I thought they were just going through the motions.
I did however love Stormzy the night before. He was so overwhelmed to be there & first black man to headline on Pyramid stage. It was a brilliant set.

anitamp1 Sun 30-Jun-19 11:55:33

Amry64. Never saw Pink Floyd. But did see Led Zeppelin in the Caird Hall in, I think, 1972, much to the envy of my son. I was only 17 and don't think I fully appreciated them at the time.

Glammy57 Sun 30-Jun-19 11:57:41

Blondiescot. I too, have an eclectic taste in music: George Ezra, Manics, Green Day, Pet Shop Boys, The Specials, Killers, Buzzcocks...Saw Pink Floyd way back in the seventies and The Stones. Enjoy a bit of Bob Marley and REM, also!

HannahLoisLuke Sun 30-Jun-19 12:14:10

I went to the first one in 1970. Think it was called the Pilton Blues Festival and was a very small one day affair.
Remember Mark Bolan and Al Stewart but that's it.
I dont remember paying to go in. I've always wanted to go back but marriage, children and all that got in the way.
I've been to many other festivals since but none has had that magical feeling of Glastonbury.
I couldn't stand the crowds and the epic walking from one stage to another these days. I rely on my granddaughter to tell me all about it. She's been going every year for ten years now. Sigh......

Labaik Sun 30-Jun-19 12:14:30

Another Linkin Park fan here; although there aren't many albums to draw on I never tire of them.

Sar53 Sun 30-Jun-19 12:15:16

My favourite band of all time is Pink Floyd, I saw them in 1994 at Earls Court. I've also seen Bon Jovi twice, they are brilliant live, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, U2, The Rolling Stones, Phil Collins. Sadly most of them are older than I am now !!!
I also like The Killers, Bruce Springsteen, early Coldplay. Not so keen on the music of today especially grime and rap.
I'm so pleased that I'm not the only gran who listens to rock music in the car.
