When my sons were small, they used to love watching cartoons on Grandma's television.

Their favourites and mine were Krtek the Mole and the animations Camberwick Green, Chigley and Trumpton.

Who can forget Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb?

Then came The Herbs (with dear old Parsley the Lion)
and The Magic Roundabout (originally Le Manège enchanté).

But best of all there was Morph who was adopted in 2016 by Aardman for a whole new series.

What are or were your favourites?

Anyone else love Jasper Carrott’s spoof of Magic Roundabout? Florence to Zebedee “Call yourself a dog? I’ve seen better hair on a lavatory brush”

Noggin the Nog!

Nortsat46 Sat 24-Aug-19 09:47:37

Patticake I loved Picture Book.
The Wooden Tops - esp Spotty Dog
Tom & Jerry.

In the Daily Mail (my father's choice of newspaper) there was a lovely strip cartoon called Fred Bassett. Its creator must have been a dog owner, because it was so accurate and funny.

As a two cat household, I now really enjoy Simon's Cat, which I view on You Tube. It's a hoot for cat lovers ... ??

When teaching a small group of 7 students, I had among other surnames Pugh, Cuthbert and Dibble . So that class was nicknamed Camberwick Green grin

My two granddaughters aged nearly 2 and nearly 4 are both fans of Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley. My son bought the DVDs for them, and their limited TV time is divided between those 3, Peppa Pig and a German cartoon about a little dormouse called Bobo.

Lupin Sat 24-Aug-19 10:22:18

Yogi Bear and Booboo anyone? We had fun imitating the voices. My grandsons like a Yogi Bear DVD I have.
The Flintstones.
Noggin the Nog.
Being a cat lover I liked Tom and Jerry. When did Top Cat start?

Applegran Sat 24-Aug-19 10:28:02

Nortsat46 Sat 24-Aug-19 10:43:59

Lupin I forgot about Top Cat .... which I loved and remember in the mid 1960's.

Amagran Sat 24-Aug-19 10:46:36

Trumpton, Chigley, Camberwick Green, Bagpuss (big fat furry cat-puss), Ivor the Engine, Mr Benn - snuggled up on the sofa with my two children - happy days. Sorry - different generation, but I also loved watching Timmy Time with the GCs - a lovely gentle programme.

Juliet27 Sat 24-Aug-19 10:58:44

Anyone remember Prudence Kitten?

Juliet27 Sat 24-Aug-19 10:59:54

And Shari Lewis’s Lambchop?

quizqueen Sat 24-Aug-19 11:10:26

I loved Rag, Tag and Bobtail, but I was always an animal lover. I was brought up in a big town in the West Midlands so not much chance to see nature there and wished I could live in the countryside. I do now.

winterwhite Sat 24-Aug-19 11:36:54

When I read Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew I was reminded of Hairy McClary of Donaldson's Dairy, much loved by all my GCs.

Margs Sat 24-Aug-19 11:52:03

Bagpuss and Noggin the Nog. Simple times.....

Jessity Sat 24-Aug-19 12:03:35

Bagpuss - "saggy and a bit loose at the seams". I know the feeling.....

Tillybelle Sat 24-Aug-19 12:08:04

Lovely thread!

Bagcat, or as my DD said; "Cat Bag". We still say "Heave, heave heave" when moving things and can sing "We will fix, we will fix it" (or "We will mend it" as appropriate!)

The first cartoons I saw in a book owned by an Uncle as a child was Felix the Cat. Always used to read it whilst on holiday in my aunt and uncles house.

The first cartoons in the cinema was Cinderella - Walt Disney

The first cartoons on television was Popeye.
