Scarves, what is it about them..?

In the light of the many serious threads on GN at the moment, I thought I would post something light hearted and vacuus.

I decided to tidy out the hall cupboard today. In it was a huge curver box, overflowing with scarves of every colour, pattern, weight etc. I'm too embarrassed to say how many. blush
I even bought four in Rome last week, the fact that they were only 2 Euros each, may have influenced me. grin
They were a bargain, of surprisingly good quality, but I didn't really need them. Basically they seduced me with their vibrant colours! smile

Does anyone else share this obsession? I know Nan Kate does, as she has previously mentioned it!

shysal everybody should have a holy scarf rack?blessed by the Pope?
I love scarves, and have a large drawer full of the things, and still covet nice ones when I see them.

I'm a bit of a scarf addict. I like really soft lightweight long patterned ones. My wardrobe is quite plain and unfussy with a limited colour palette and I don't spend very much on clothes and a good scarf can really 'dress up' an outfit.

Love scarfs but everyone buys me them I’ve got them in every colour size and texture but I do love them! Yes marydoll and I do still keep buying them !!!

That scarf rack looks like a brilliant idea, shysal

Mine are rolled up in a drawer but that would free up the drawer for something or other.
I have loads of scarves but can't wear them stylishly!.

I have four! Only wear a scarf for warmth in the winter. I have to admit, there are some beautiful ones around, though.

I thought it was just me. I have so many scarves and rarely wear one confused

What a lovely memory of your friend. smile

Another fan of scarves here too! I have one of those sets of storage drawers in my very small porch - behind the front door as it opens - containing all manner of brollies / hats / gloves / scarves / mitts (even those for the grandkids) plus 'proper' shopping bags.

But my collection of 'lightweight scarves' is my pride and joy. They help to brighten up an otherwise drab outfit - a bright 'pop' of colour/pattern on a plain top. I have one of these hanging on a hook inside the wardrobe door - www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/komplement-multi-use-hanger-white-60387211/. Every now and again, I take some to the charity shop ......................... but I usually come back with more wink.

I too love scarfs...scarves... and I do actually wear them.
All sizes, shapes, fabrics. I favour light floaty ones, or nice warm woolly ones in cold weather. I've even knitted several in the past and still have them.

I am so jealous of you all! I am 'barely' 5 feet tall and my neck is so short that if I wear a scarf it just looks like my head is balanced on top of a pile of fabric. I do try and look for very narrow ones and love the added style it gives to outfits - on other people grin.

allsortsofbags Wed 18-Sept-19 11:31:21

I have lots of scarves too :-) My DDs have been know to say if I needed to change my user name I could easily use "Too Many Scarves". Cheeky mares :-)

I have so many scarves and pashminas, they dress up an outfit, add colour and are warm in winter around the house. I have one of the holey ones shown on shysal's post, I got it in Ikea. they look good displayed like this too.

My best friend travels widely in unusual places where handicrafts abound. She buys the most beautiful scarves and pashminas as they are light to travel home with. She wears them with style and also drapes them over bannisters where they look fantastic. They are also a travelogue of where she has been.

schnackie I am like you, I see other people wearing beautiful scarves and feel so envious. but they just don't look right on me.

Sheilasue Wed 18-Sept-19 11:55:51

I love my scarves, I have summer ones and winter ones they hide my scraggy neck and they match my tops, coats, cardis and jumpers. Floaty ones for the summer warm snuggly ones winter.

I too have quite a collection of lovely scarves and used to enjoy wearing them.

However, I suddenly started to think that they made me look older so stopped wearing them, except for winter warmers.

I got the idea that a scarf makes me look like I'm hiding my neck, which actually doesn't quite need hiding yet.

Ok I'm vain, I admit it.
Never do hide my age though, if anybody asks I'm 75.

BradfordLass72 Wed 18-Sept-19 12:08:43

I've never owned a silk scar but have many cheap and cheerful ones and wear them all the time.

Mainly they are plain but I have a few with colours which match or contracts with whatever clothes I'm wearing.

We also have, in our elder's group, a very beautiful 'uniform' scarf which identified us. It's a swirl of different greens. The men have matching ties.

Anyone who has scarves to spare - send 'em to me !! grin

nannyof4 Wed 18-Sept-19 12:09:33

Yes i also love scarves as they do finish of a boring outfit.

EthelJ Wed 18-Sept-19 12:59:47

I'm the same marydoll I was never a scarf person until about 10 years ago when my daughter bought me a lovely light weight one in a beautiful pattern. I became a big fan and now I have a drawer full in various colours and patterns. Still have to buy a new one if I see one one in a pattern or colour I don't have. I do think scarves make even a very casual outfit look smarter.

grandtanteJE65 Wed 18-Sept-19 12:59:54

I'm not addicted to quite the same extent, but yes, they are difficult to resist.

I sometimes reduce the number by making dolls' dresses out of scarves.

sarahellenwhitney Wed 18-Sept-19 13:05:55

Scarves are another of my weaknesses.
The 'floaty' kind which take little room to store unlike my winter selection.

NannaToon Wed 18-Sept-19 13:07:21

I love scarfs too. Have a box full of them. Ideal for brightening up a dull jumper or coat.

Dinahmo Wed 18-Sept-19 13:11:57

Back in the eighties I was given session with a Colour Me Beautiful specialist - the idea being that you work out which colour group is best for you. At that time I was a redhead - ginger with pale skin and I wore a lot of the autumnal sludgy colours and never quite liked my appearance. Pieces of fabric are draped around your neck (face free of makeup) and you can see how some colours light you up and others make you look dull. It's particularly good if you watch the draping being done to someone else.

I learned two things - one that I should wear spring colours and two that if you have a garment that you love but it doesn't quite do it for you, wear a scarf that is the right colour and your face will be brighter.

inthewrongroom Wed 18-Sept-19 13:13:12

O YES YES YES
I love them!!! I will not live without them ... I have "several"!!!!! Possibly 3or4 for every occasion whether needed or not ... I am an addict!!
Add that to a compulsive, impulsive hat addiction ... O and cheese ... but not all at the same time!!
Do you think I need help??? Tee hee wink

I love Moira C’s scarves with the magnetic ends. I have a whole collection of them. She also does a wee YouTube video of different ways to put them on. Very helpful. Just type in Moira c scarves and the videos come up.

I am liking your "storage" solution!
