I'm desperate for a non Xmas tune on the radio!

All the stations on DAB are the same round of corny Christmas songs on a continuous loop. It seems the only station that doesn't do tuneless festive much is TalkSport - thanks but no thanks!

It appears that any and every bit of music at the moment (however crappy) has jingle bells on it and that makes it OK. It's driving me crazy - goodness knows how shop staff bear this stuff hour after hour whilst dealing with frantic and fraught customers at the very busy checkouts.

They deserve a medal simply for not losing it.

Bah humbug!.
I didn’t realize there were so many Scrooge’s , I’m not that keen on Christmas but at least I don’t complain and enter into rather spirit of the season.

MawB Tue 24-Dec-19 08:05:30

tchconfused
Well it IS Christmas ?

If you had asked in June or July you might have got a different answer. tchsmile

Harris27 Tue 24-Dec-19 08:52:40

They,ll all stop after tomorrow! So something to look forward to!

What was the question again?

We celebrate "Christmas in July", much to the joy of retailers and restaurateurs! The best of both Hemispheres! tchgrin

Ooh, is it let’s pick on MawBroon day again Rufus?
My mistake, I thought OP had posted on AIBU

<buries head in sackcloth and ashes>
And a Happy Christmas to you too ?

Rufus2 Tue 24-Dec-19 12:55:50

Ooh, is it let’s pick on MawBroon day again Rufus?
Blimey! You're quick on your feet Maw; popping up everywhere in various disguises; Maw, MawBroon, MawBroonsbackagain; A real moving target such that I'm surprised anyone can "pick on you!"
Now listen1 Please tell what's wrong with my post that irritates you. I tried to point out recently that this was the season of goodwill to all men, but look where that got me! sad
I was also going to suggest "Be kind to Rufus Week" over Christmas, but thought better of it! tchhmm
Like you, I'm looking forward to reflecting on past events, in peace and quiet.
Unlike you, time is not on my side!
Have a peaceful Holiday

Now then children - no squabbling. It IS the season of goodwill to all men bahaha

(Been saying that all day to GC lol)

I think we all know what MAW meant by it’s not July/August. I didn’t know Australia celebrated in July/August either? Does that mean you actually have TWO Christmases a year in Oz? Heaven forbid! Sincerely hope it doesn’t catch on here ?

Alishka Tue 24-Dec-19 18:01:48

Squabbling at Christmas?shock The first person who wakes up the Baybee Cheesus will be put on crib rocking duties until after Epiphany - that's 6th January, btw.

Oh, it-s awful, Tedber - Christmas in July - 'tis the season to be jolly, just because it's winter.

We all know that Jesus was actually born in May.

Buffybee Tue 24-Dec-19 18:13:37

Radio here is on all day in dining room as background noise and doesn't go off until TV comes on about 8pm. Even when I go out in the day I arrive back to music, I don't like a silent house.
I've got Magic Radio on, all Christmas tunes, I love them.
I appreciate not everyone feels the same and tomorrow over at Daughters there will be no music, until I get one of the Grandchildren to put Christmas music on.......low, or we get in trouble.

Tedber Tue 24-Dec-19 18:14:02

Wow! So ... are you in Australia callistemon? Do you really celebrate TWICE a year?

Don’t know anything about Australia so this is an eye opener to me (unless you are winding me up?). I couldn’t hack two Christmases at all bah humbug. I have always wondered how Americans cope with Thanksgiving with all family expectations then Christmas so near to it!!!

Maybe I am a misery guys after all bahaha ?

Callistemon Tue 24-Dec-19 19:19:36

No, not at the moment but I have been there in July and Christmas in July seemed to be a theme in the shops. I remember thinking 'what on earth - is this just more commercialism?'.

I don't know any families which actually celebrated it then.

Rufus may know more than me.

Of course! tchwink Thanks for the plug! Why not 2? To-day is your day in midwinter. so OZ has to have its midwinter Christmas Day in July, simple really when you really think about it.! grin
There are only two main differences here; retailers and restaurateurs double their menu and drinks prices and pack in 50% more tables and chairs so you invariably wind up with other patrons bumping the back of your chair, sitting cheek by jowl and if you happen to want to visit the "facilities" it's best if the whole table go at the same time to avoid serious foot injuries as you try to shuffle out! tchgrin Otherwise it's possible to have a day out, if a trifle expensive. Hope that solves your worries!?
Giving the "toasts" a break!
Merry Christmas.

Bahaha... sounds WONDERFUL Rufus. Glad you enjoyed your 25 December Christmas. Bet you can’t wait for your July Christmas! Ha ha ?. Love your sense of humor btw. Keep it coming! Where do you originate from? X

nightswimmer Wed 25-Dec-19 15:18:14

Spotify choose your own?

Callistemon Thu 26-Dec-19 10:04:31

Ah, you could have a Winter Solstice celebration, a Winterval, a Yuletide Festival, Samhain in June as well as Christmas in December.

It was probably thought up by some Marketing guru.

Tedber Good Evening; nice to meet you! smile
Two things are obvious from your post; 1. You say you like my sense of humour so you're not Scotch a Scottie and 2, the X suggests you're a lady! Hope I've got that right, otherwise I'm in trouble. confused
Yes! I'm the one in OZ (Callistemon is a pseudo Oz through family;) I was born in Manchester (up City, down Scouses} and after 44years came to OZ with family of course, and been in Melb for 49 years. Loving it! Humour is therefore a hybrid Anglo/Oz; What a marriage! grin
Your turn! Where are you from and where are you now?
Hope you've brought plenty of jokes/humour.
