I learned in a Mini, and passed my test first time in 1975, but my first car of my own (lent to me ny my Dad), was an ancient Austin A40, supposed to be red but the bonnet so faded it had white (go-faster?) stripes on it. It didn't have wind-down windows and had to have the windows wedged shut with half a clothes peg. The wipers' speed used to vary according to how fast I was driving, and at any speed past 40 it felt like it was shaking itself to death! Went on a camping holiday in it with my sister, with a full-sized frame tent, cooking gear and fridge box in the back seat, piled high to the ceiling, as the car had very little boot space. Loved it as it gave me freedom and independence.
