... and planning to be financially independent.
?

I don’t generally like Piers Morgan, but he’s right on this.
First Meghan dumped her father, then her family, then got Harry to dump his old and trusted friends to be replaced by Hollywood glitterati. Then she has persuaded him to dump his brother and now his family.
I think it is really sad....their idea is fine in principal, but it is the way they have gone about it...leaving a trail of sad/angry people in their wake.
Harry is obviously besotted with her, but I fear he will wake up one day and realise he has paid a heavy price for the freedom of what exactly?
As for them becoming independent...please...they have Diana’s very large inheritance to fall back on, not to mention Charles’s.

I wonder if she’s got her eye on the Presidency? grin

Would Harry be Prince Harry, First Gentleman?

Yehbutnobut Thu 09-Jan-20 13:48:49

Some people really do believe everything they read in the papers and magazines don’t they? ??

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 13:48:55

Is the inheritance from Diana enough to keep them in the luxury they demand

mcem Thu 09-Jan-20 13:58:08

Their presence does not impact on the life of my family.
Their absence won't change that.
If some taxpayers' cash be be saved, that's a bonus.
In other words "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

SirChenjin Thu 09-Jan-20 14:17:30

Would Harry be Prince Harry, First Gentleman?

Megan must have thought it's the same as filming do her bit then back to reality NOT so for the royal family she bit off more than she thought even splitting brothers up did not like her from the start.

Maccyt 1955
To me it looks as if what you say is spot on.
I think they should live abroad either in Canada ,the USA or South Africa if that is what they want
They are not without a bob or two
They should be allowed to get on with it but if that is what they choose they are on their own.
It reminds me of the Duke of Windsor who was so besotted with Wallis Simpson.
In truth I think Prince Charles is right.
The Royal family should be slimmed down.
We don’t need so many hangers on
Lesser Royals could be paid for opening hospitals or whatever
but that should be it.

Antonia Thu 09-Jan-20 14:28:06

I think it must be extremely difficult for anyone outside the royal family to marry into it. The Duchess of Cambridge has fitted in seamlessly, but then she comes from a loving and supportive family. The ones who haven't fitted in, eg Diana, Sarah, Meghan, came from troubled family backgrounds, and no doubt carried a lot of emotional baggage with them when they married. Harry is still trying to find his way, and I hope he and Meghan will succeed, although I do agree that they should have discussed it all with the Queen first. Instagram is not the correct way to do it.

SalsaQueen Thu 09-Jan-20 14:28:11

They will never be financially independent. We'll still be paying for their security, staff, home, etc. Grasping, arrogant gits, the pair of them. They lectured us about climate change, blah blah, but jet off all over the place.

Nanna58 Thu 09-Jan-20 14:28:12

I really couldn’t care less, AS LONG AS I’M NOT PAYING FOR THEM!!!

Annecan Thu 09-Jan-20 14:32:22

Yehbutnobut
Have you read their Instagram
Have you heard her talk
Have you read their statement?
Have you noted her actions?
Some of us can actually form our own opinion ....
They are blatantly hypocritical and grabbing. I don’t need the papers to tell me that
Personally I am ashamed on behalf of the queen who is admirable beyond question

Barmeyoldbat Thu 09-Jan-20 14:33:00

Good news, but if they are going to live in the US or Canada and going to be independent does that mean they will pay for any security or will us tax payers be footing the bill for the security while they are living abroad. I hope nor.

Soleil Thu 09-Jan-20 14:34:11

Poor Harry and Meghan.
I feel for them.
People are so very cruel and strongly opinionated, when in fact what do they really know.
Diana was treated appallingly,we are now persecuting her son and his family in exactly the same way.
Shameful.

icanhandthemback Thu 09-Jan-20 14:35:13

I think it is a damned shame that the first Royal marriage where one half is black has felt compelled to distance themselves from the Royal Family. I don't say there isn't blame on both sides but there should have been more support for both of them in the face of such pressure. The press have been their normal intrusive selves. It seems that no lessons have been learned from the Diana fiasco. Nobody seems to take into account that this was a man who wanted to fight for his country but wasn't allowed. When he went through the idiocy of being a young man which most young men do, he was vilified by the press. I can see exactly why he wants to protect his wife after watching his mother hounded to her death.

Grannyknot Thu 09-Jan-20 14:36:04

As far as I can make out from this info on their (brand new and very smart) website, no money from the public purse goes to them, we don't pay for them, it comes from the Sovereign Grant:

In the 2018-2019 fiscal report, Her Majesty The Queen surrendered £329 million from the Crown Estate to the government. In exchange for this contribution, in return, the government granted the sovereign approximately £82 million to cover the costs for official expenditure. This constitutes the Sovereign Grant.

They want to be like cousin Zara and Mike Tindall. She is Also a granddaughter of the queen but shuns the limelight.

No they dont. Zara just gets on with living her life. No big public flounces or tantrums.

Zara also doesnt tell US how to live OUR lives... and doesnt whinge that people arent listening to her "message"

Do they heck wanna be like Zara! If they did, they would already be doing it, no drama or statements required. They are MINOR royals now and he is acting like he's an abducating king!

Janetashbolt Thu 09-Jan-20 14:41:12

Hope they give up the police protection. Save the Met enough to put a few bobbies back on the street

pinkquartz Thu 09-Jan-20 14:42:06

It is not true that we don't pay for them...We paid for their wedding
we pay for the refurb of Frogmore. approx £2.4 million
We pay for their travel.

we will always pay their security and travel.....
They planned this almost a year ago......
so deceitful and hypocritical........yet some people think that is ok.

the UK has many more deserving folk in real need.

SirChenjin Thu 09-Jan-20 14:42:23

So the profits from the publicly owned Crown Estates go the Govt who the return £82 million to the Queen who then gives some of that to H and M.

And we don’t pay for them...?

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 14:42:24

They could go and stay gone. Live stateside permanantly. They were the ones not long ago telling US to be more environmentally aware.... so much for that if theyre gonna be flitting back for the fun gigs and nipping back to canada when that bores them...

Aepgirl Thu 09-Jan-20 14:55:25

It’s easy to say they will be independently funded when they know they will always have the backing of the a royal family. I feel Meghan is calling all the shots, and of course now has a baby that Harry will never turn his back on.
How rude of them to not inform the Queen before issuing a statement.

icanhandthemback Thu 09-Jan-20 14:56:04

With all due respect, Zara was not brought up to live as a senior Royal like Harry. She did not have a title as a child nor was she brought up as second in line to the throne. Princess Margaret found this very difficult and it seems that Harry is too. The difference is that the Press were a lot more respectful in Margaret's day.
