Harry & Meghan stepping back from RF

Its all been about separation, from her father, her family, her ex husband, her friends and now separating Harry from William and his family.

I read about them making their own living and starting charities, does that mean sponging from charitable donations? Will frogmore be their holiday home?

Will they keep their titles?

She has a string of broken relationships behind her, although recently reconciled with her mother. I hope Harry will be happy and doesn't live to regret this move. It seems wise to get away and just live life as they choose and not how they are expected to live.

I hope they flourish away from the rigid royal expectations and enjoy being together bringing up Archie and any future children they may have.

So much hostility towards Meghan - how does anyone know that the impetus for this didn't come from Harry?

Long before she came on the scene he complained about life in the RF. I remember newspaper articles along the lines of well if you don't like it you know what to do.

I really don't think it should be the main item on the news, it's not that important!

Spending their time in the U.K. at Frogmore while avoiding boring royal duties seems suspiciously like having their cake and eating it to me.

What shocking bad manners not to discuss this development with the Queen, Charles and William before making the annnouncement.

Sometime before Christmas the Daily Telegraph published an article describing Meghan's plans to start a Global Charity, with the support of the Clooneys and Oprah Winfrey, something she had aspired to whilst working in Suits,(only no one had heard of her.) Her spokeswoman, Sunshine Sachs, said presciently:
"Prince Harry is right behind her in this."

Is this his future, using the prestige and money of the royal family to further Meghan's ambitions via the American chat shows, and is this how they will 'endeavour to work externally to earn a professional income'?

They will receive the Sovereign Grant for official travel on behalf of the Queen, plus funding from the Duchy of Cornwall via Prince Charles; the British taxpayer will fund their security.

I don't believe Mr & Mrs Sussex didn't discuss the move with their families.
A rumour like that (and the headlines it's generating) is one of the reasons they're escaping.

I like Harry, always thought he was a breath of fresh air within the Royal Family, can’t say I like Meghan, but I don’t need to, she’s not my wife.

I guess if this is what they want, so be it, but they can’t have their cake and eat it, no more money from the public purse.

This is all about Meghan, she got her prince and her sprog, “been there done that” next challenge, bring it on!.

Their plan is all about what she wants, Charles must be spitting blood and I hope he makes them pay rent for Frogmore. I wish them the best in the future but if Meghan ends up doing solo film or celebrity work Harry will be heading home with Archie.

Gaunt , it's rare for Buckingham Palace to issue a statement as they did. I feel so sorry for the Queen and think it was downright discourteous of the couple not to have discussed their plans with the family before instagramming the whole world, a bit like tweeting I suppose that we hear about from another American. I would be gutted and I'm not the boss of the firm.

WEG as far as I can see Buckingham Palace hasn't issued a statement about the plans not having been discussed, the 'news' is simply royal correspondents speculating about what might have happened. The statement from Buck House yesterday was to the effect that Mr & Mrs Sussex are stepping back. Or have I got that wrong? perhaps I've not been paying enough attention!!

Not surprised at all. Been waiting for this announcement. Megan I think has def got her way but I also think Harry has been waiting for this to happen for a long time, he just needed someone like Megan to make it happen. It's not that long ago we were all sitting glued to the tv watching their wonderful very expensive wedding. Not sure if the senior royals were given the opportunity to give their pennysworth but I certainly hope so, if not I have no regrets at them leaving our royal household.

I have just caught up with the news that Buckingham Palace were not part of these discussions.
While on the one hand it has become clear that with an “heir and a spare” in place, ( PC and PW) there was less and less for a younger brother to do - as Prince Andrew found to his cost- nevertheless this has to be a slap in the face to the Queen and , believe me, I am not “Meghan-bashing” certainly looks to me as if she is driving a wedge between Harry and his family

I don’t like her much I think she thinks she’s too important and entitled. If they want to live abroad that’s fine but if that was the long term plan why did we pay millions for a new house for them that they won’t live in. What a waste when others have nothing!

I also think it’s bad manners to announce it without discussion and if you want to be financially independent don’t think you can still be funded here as well, that is taking the mick

I too hope they are paying market rate rate on frogmore now like other non working minor royals have to.

They should never have had a Royal wedding: harry went into it with contempt, meghan went into it with patronising ideas that she could "introduce" us to feminism etc and no interest in learning the ropes.

One thing that sits uncomfortably with the royal family is that you are either in or out. They are ruthless when it comes to defending the crown and this situation is potentially very damaging. The press are having a field day. I don't suppose they saw that coming. I wonder who, if anyone, is advising them.

I think if he'd had the chance to speak to is Father/brother/ Grandmother he might have been dissuaded. Megan knew this was a possibility so it wasn't going to happen.

Their statement said they were "stepping back as senior royals" but would continue to support the Queen.

Nobody knows how M & H relationship works, a lot of speculation and spite on here and all social media.

It seems that there were discussions going on about their future role , so why did they need to jump the gun and come out with their own announcement .I see they say they will do some duties, they may not be asked now.

Agree. He CHOSE someone he could "run away" with!
And he set them up to fail, he is so full of contemp. He wanted her to agree with him that Royal life was awful to justify him leaving and it became a self fulfiling prophecy that they would be miserable here. The cowards way, and cost us hundreds of thousands!
He should have been upfront from the start, he never really wanted Royal duties. But instead he half "tried" so he could fail

I generally am a supporter of the Royal Family but Harry & Meghan should get a grip and realise they have responsibilities as we all do to our families.
