Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

Kitty. grin.
It's the connotations the name has in the west of Scotland.
Actually, it's probably accurate. Nae class! blush

Elegran Mon 17-Feb-20 11:25:26

I wish I could include all of you by name, but I can only say that I love you all! What a nice thread!

Squiffy Mon 17-Feb-20 11:26:44

What a heartwarming thread. It reminds me of smiling at a stranger in the street and hoping that it brightens their day a little - and that they'll pass their smile on to someone else!

Marydoll Mon 17-Feb-20 11:29:54

Elegran, I always hope you will post on the more contentious threads, as the voice of reason. You are knowledgeable and articulate, able to vocalise what I'm thinking, but can't quite find the words.

I am so glad that I found your post organising the first ever Edinburgh meetup I plucked up the courage to go to, no-one can organise them like you do!

BlueSky Mon 17-Feb-20 11:58:53

Elegran thank you! It helps a lot those of us who are on their own or family far away. We all have sadness and worry and coming on here and being able to share it does help.
Marydoll love seeing your posts and with such a cheerful name I just have to read them!

Mapleleaf Mon 17-Feb-20 12:07:33

Marydoll I always look forward to your posts on the GM thread as they are guaranteed to bring a smile to me.
There are so many of you who offer kindness, support and a dash of fun, so to you all I say "thank you".

Fennel Mon 17-Feb-20 12:07:50

Yes a very friendly thread. Even though we've drifted from your idea of commenting on the previous post.
I just want to say that I admire you, Urmston for keeping your cool and being polite on those political threads where you seem to be a lonely voice. We need to respect everyone's view.

Megs36 Mon 17-Feb-20 12:19:31

Venall so agree about dragonfly, I wish her well.

Jane10 Mon 17-Feb-20 12:24:14

Oh no. I might have to leave GN. I'm just not a nice person. I'll get me coat.

MawB Mon 17-Feb-20 12:26:28

Jane10 I enjoy your comments and your perspective from Edinburgh on all sorts of stuff.
(And I’m eagerly awaiting the next book. Hint, hint!)

rosecarmel Mon 17-Feb-20 12:27:00

My post was genuine, in the spirit of the thread, immediately judged by the member I complimented, and then shunned-

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 12:33:17

If that was the case and your intentions were misunderstood rosecarmel then I’m sure you’ll be forgiven.

Jane10 that made me laugh!

Marydoll I always think of RabC in his string vest (not you personally... obviously!). Loved that programme - when I could follow the accent.
?

MawB Mon 17-Feb-20 12:40:03

In that case rosecarmel may I continue to be “honest” and say how your dismissive comment (“damned with faint praise”) landed like a lead balloon.
It said little more than “she walks on two legs”, “she knows how to spell” or “she has opinions”.

Oopsminty Mon 17-Feb-20 12:46:37

I don't really 'know' many on here.

However I have seen MawB's comments and, from what she's written, know a little of PawB and I find her bravery and good humour inspiring

Marydoll Mon 17-Feb-20 12:48:54

MawB, keep on being you! I wouldn't have you any other way, quietly supporting those who are feeling vulnerable, without broadcasting it.?
You are one smart lady and I do like to follow your shopping purchases! wink You have led me astray on more than one occasion. grin

TrendyNannie6 Mon 17-Feb-20 12:49:18

Oh no I might have to leave GN I will get my coat Jane10 oh that did make me laugh! Same here Jane10 but I can hand on heart say there are some great posters on here, I couldn’t pick from them

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 12:58:07

Go on TrendyNannie! Pick one. Share nice thoughts about one of the posters. Anyone. We won’t hold it against you for choosing one at random!

This is such a great thread. Kindness is uplifting. Thanks everyone for joining in!

Callistemon Mon 17-Feb-20 12:58:26

I'm not a bit trendy although I'd like to be, TrendyNannie so I am imagining one of those stylish women I see when I'm out shopping!

I love reading everyone's posts, the advice, the diverse views on life, on politics and the way that Gransnetters offer strength to those who are suffering.

SueDonim Mon 17-Feb-20 13:01:22

I had a bit of banter last night with Callistemon about catching ‘muck-mucks’ and she made me laugh a lot. smile

Megs36 Mon 17-Feb-20 13:12:51

Rose Carmel got to say SNAP. Often post here and there but no response, think you need to be a ‘regular’.??

boheminan Mon 17-Feb-20 13:15:00

...Am a bit of a lurker and have changed my name once, but have been visiting since the onset of GN. SueDonim, along with just about all you other posters, comes across as funny and wise - a good combination. It's a great place to be, and is my first port of call every morning. Thank you all for starting the day off with a giggle or cry....

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 13:17:10

Hi Megs36 ?

Elegran Mon 17-Feb-20 13:26:24

Hi Megs36 This thread did start as a "post something nice about the person posting before you" not as a "pick someone out to be nice to". As I haven't seen any of your posts, I can't say anything relevant - but welcome to Gransnet, and keep on adding comments!

conor Mon 17-Feb-20 13:28:16

I enjoy novellas from Marydoll and always look for updates from Gillybobs. Also enjoy posts from Urmstongran, *Blue Sapphire and Gravygran. Think they are on my wavelength! smilexxx

Elegran Mon 17-Feb-20 13:28:51

MawB (and anyone else within striking distance of West Edinburgh) If you want a chance to grill Jane10 on her next book in about a month's time, PM me.

Sorry - that was off piste. I'll shut up.
