The other day I read that the Queen has said that Harry and Meghan cannot keep their SussexRoyal brand with that name.
They cannot use the word royal.
There are in fact laws in place over this, some go back over a hundred years I believe.

Today Meghan has told her friends that there is NO legal reason for her to not use it because they only want to do good....(yeah of course) and she will do as she pleases.
She also stated that Harry and Archie are royal and no-one can take that away from them.

So is this now Meghan v the Queen and British Law?

well that was short lived. Think I was fooled by a wind up online.. I think it was online Mirror and Mail.....ITV

In the Guardian now is "Under “additional details” it reads: “While there is not any jurisdiction by the Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.”

sounds like M&H might have thought there was a loophole as they are not in UK but it has been made clear now that the y will not get away with using Royal in their branding,.

@MawB What was your point? Resadmy posted link of spirit medium one to one with Diana and Dodi)

Maybe Megs and Harry saw Shirley G channeling Diana?

vampirequeen Fri 21-Feb-20 23:39:04

Does that mean that I can't buy Jersey Royals anymore? What about Royal Icing? Can I still get Royal Gala apples or Royal Norfolks (if someone has a tree)? Will we still be able to buy Royal Jelly? What about Royal meals and desserts? Will they have to change the company name? Will royal blue become a different shade of blue or a different colour completely?

If we can lay claim to a word and stop other people using it then I'd like the word ….red. That robin's going to have to his breast colour. And Man Utd can no longer be the Reds. Post boxes will have to change as will Argos and TKMaxx. Husbands and boyfriends will have to find buy undies in other colours for their wives and girlfriends. There will no longer be any Reds under the beds or red top newspapers. A farce? Of course it is. As is banning H and M from using the word 'royal'.

Chewbacca Fri 21-Feb-20 23:43:34

Sorry vampirequeen but you can't wear your Royal blue trousers, whilst icing your cake with Royal icing and peeling your Jersey Royals anymore. It's the law! grin

MawB Fri 21-Feb-20 23:57:38

My point Ananimous was what on earth did such tosh add to the subject matter or indeed point of this thread. And tosh it was - hilarious if life weren’t too short to waste a nanosecond on such a charlatan.

ananimous Sat 22-Feb-20 00:07:14

@Mawb

Some people believe in spirit world, others, not so much.
What is your point? Life is what you make it, surely?

Now I need shusshy!

MawB Sat 22-Feb-20 00:42:04

You do indeed.
I have only one thing to add, as they say, you should always aim to strike a happy medium.

Lyndiloo Sat 22-Feb-20 01:56:57

Oh, that link to the medium. What a charlatan! Can anyone imagine Lady Diana using so many 'wots' in the wrong places! (Not grammatically correct places.) It's ridiculous! It wasn't 'spine-chilling' at all - it was farcical! And I do believe in the spirit world - but this tripe is just taking the pee!

And I think that the ban on the word 'Royal' is just for the brand name 'Sussex Royal', not for Harry and Megan calling themselves 'Royal'.

I'm really sad that this estrangement from the Royal Family has happened, but Harry and Megan cannot have their cake and eat it! It seems to me that Megan should have thought longer and harder before marrying Harry (and he, perhaps, before marrying her).

Calendargirl Sat 22-Feb-20 07:49:15

Oh to be a fly on the wall in H&M’s home!

If Harry was unhappy before, I’m pretty sure he is just as unhappy now. You’re not telling me that any of this ‘mess’, because that’s what it is, is what he envisaged when they set out on their alternative ‘royal’ lifestyle.

With the wonderful benefit of hindsight, I’m sure they could have remained part of the family, carrying out certain royal duties, supporting the Queen, their chosen charities, the military connections, whilst living a more discreet and relatively private life at Windsor, and enjoying selective trips to the USA, Canada or wherever.

Instead, it’s this unholy ‘mess’. What a shame as no one has come out of it happy I’m sure.

Curlywhirly Sat 22-Feb-20 08:17:21

I do wonder what Harry does all day. He must be bored out of his tree. Being a royal, I suppose he is used to days and days of inactivity, waiting for the next royal engagement; but to just remain at home, week after week, when you are fit and relatively young, must be mind numbing. I presume Meghan isn't quite so bored, as she appears to be actively seeking 'work' (according to the media, who knows?). They may be very privileged, but I would hate to be in their position - living in a guilded cage, quite sad really.

LullyDully Sat 22-Feb-20 08:50:44

I can't see why they need the ' Royal' title. There can't be many people who don't know who Harry and Megan are.

MerylStreep Sat 22-Feb-20 08:52:03

Lyndiloo
He's not a charlatan. He's never professed to be a medium. He's a comedian called Mark whooton. That's how he earns his money, it's all a joke.

vampirequeen Sat 22-Feb-20 08:55:21

Whether they need the 'royal' word or not, the point is that they're being told they can't use it. No one can own a language and therefore no one should be banned from using any part of it.

Anniebach Sat 22-Feb-20 09:01:35

They use royal titles and have all royal privileges, perhaps if
they gave up their titles they could use ‘royal’ . They could be
Markle Royal.

Jane10 Sat 22-Feb-20 09:38:07

Good one Anniebach!

jo1book Sat 22-Feb-20 09:41:16

What about HazzaandMezza.com

SueH49 Sat 22-Feb-20 09:49:44

Seems Meghan doesn’t think the rules apply to her.

Urmstongran Sat 22-Feb-20 10:33:18

Like that Anniebach!

Urmstongran Sat 22-Feb-20 10:35:14

Maybe I’ll set up my own website then vampirequeen.
#urmstongran.royal
?

trisher Sat 22-Feb-20 10:36:41

I was just wondering if anyone had thought about how their DIL might react if she discovered they were legally entitled to take charge of their GCs without giving any reason? I'm fairly certain mine would have headed for the hills and I wouldn't have blamed her. I would have done exactly the same if I discovered my MIL (or even my mum) had had the right to take over my children.

BlueBelle Sat 22-Feb-20 10:40:27

Well annonimous believed in it merylstreep what a load of absolute tosh
Thank God they got away from these shores best move they ever made give a year or two hopefully everyone will forget they exist talk about witches round the cauldron ???

Chewbacca Sat 22-Feb-20 10:41:03

But surely you'd have researched the RF protocols before entering into, wouldn't you trisher? Meghan must surely have apprised herself of what was expected of her and all the ramifications of entering the family before she signed up to it.

Oopsminty Sat 22-Feb-20 10:44:36

Thank God they got away from these shores best move they ever made give a year or two hopefully everyone will forget they exist talk about witches round the cauldron

Witches round the cauldron?

As for everyone forgetting they ever existed. I don't think you understand. They don't want to disappear. They are rather upset about the removal of the word 'royal' They have issued a rather passive aggressive statement on their website

Not the words of people who want to disappear
