Well now I am taking this very seriously. I laughed about the loo roll and baked beans but no wine is one step too far. ?

Woodmouse49 Seems all the supermarkets are the same. Booked a Click and Collect two weeks ago with Asda for Sunday am. Constantly being informed items are out of stock. Utterly useless. No wine ordered due to Sunday restrictions on time of collection. Thought I would fare better going to collect but no hope.

parishamilton try phoning your nearest supermarket and explaining your situation.
Ask if they could put a box of supplies together for you to collect.
Our local garden centre is bringing orders out to people's cars for them, I don't see why a shop couldn't do the same.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but as the wife of an acoholic who tries to stay sober, I can assure you: YOU DO NOT NEED WINE.

Parishhamilton, that’s awful. I do hope neighbours help you out. No one should starve.sad

I like wine but don’t drink it every day. I’ve just looked for you all and found you can buy wine from Amazon, so if you can’t get any locally you can try Amazon. I’ve got wine in stock so as I don’t drink it every day, I suspect I’ve got more than enough if I fancy a tipple.

Two shoppers in Aldi innocently put 6 bottles of tonic in a box, reasonably assuming it was the in demand items limited to 4. When 2 were removed he said "Oh well, at least we have 4 bottles of gin to go with it"

A limit of 4 bottles of wine in Lidl’s today, and plenty of it.

BlueSapphire Sat 21-Mar-20 11:09:41

DDil has just left 4 bottles of wine on my doorstep!

Grannyactivist I like your style ?

I'm just about to have a word with Tesco re their ' over 70's slot '. I arrived at my nearest one at 9.20 yesterday, and found the car park pretty full. People of all ages were going in and out of the store. I spoke to an employee who was wiping trolley handles. He said that some of the staff would speak to younger shoppers in the store. A bit late. They really should have thought it through before announcing their 'offer '. They need to have the doors closed, and only allow more mature shoppers in. Now, they'll hopefully have realised that some of the public won't be sympathetic enough to honour the policy which the store has put in place. I know that it's not easy to uphold, but they need to have a rethink.

I am glad that I bought a couple of bottles of red the other day. Still have half a large bottle of brandy. Just need to buy some orange juice to go with it.

If wine is a concern right now, whine away !

inishowen Sat 21-Mar-20 10:44:02

Haven't seen any shortage of wine in Tesco yet. I have a glass of white every evening with dinner, or a gin and tonic.

Craftycat Sat 21-Mar-20 10:36:52

DH went out yesterday & got 3 bottles of wine- not our usual but will do.
Luckily there is a new bottle of pink gin in the drinks cupboard!

Hi - no wine - yes agree!! But my little local indian shop has shelves of it. Wherever you are try the little shops and don't tell anyone else. They have several things you can't get in the supermarket. Good Luck.

Don't understand the lack of fresh fruit and veg. It's not as though you can stockpile them. Although lemons and lines can be sliced and frozen for the gingrin

merlotgran Sat 21-Mar-20 10:30:13

Tedd1. I've been stocking up (not stockpiling) for weeks. I don't call that panic buying, I call it sensible planning and management of supplies we will definitely need.

Who knows what's ahead?

Youcantchoosethem Sat 21-Mar-20 10:29:07

Ps - funniest substitution in the past was two cream slices substituted for a two slice cream toaster! That was returned.

Youcantchoosethem Sat 21-Mar-20 10:28:26

Just had our Tesco delivery and have to say I’m really impressed. I feared not getting hardly anything and just stick to things we really need - got loads of substitutions but all sensible ones and nothing was missing at all. Amazed. I have been a delivery customer for years and always normally had missing things and had some really strange subs in the past but this time they surpassed themselves.

Tedd1 Sat 21-Mar-20 10:25:22

I'm still not getting all this panic buying!!

Estrellita Sat 21-Mar-20 10:13:52

Same here. Waitrose too.

merlotgran Sat 21-Mar-20 10:12:04

Somebody on Gransnet tipped me off about Aldi delivering wine so we have a delivery coming in a few days.

Phoebes Sat 21-Mar-20 10:05:51

Why not join a wine club? We used to be in the Sunday Times Wine Club before my medication stopped me from drinking alcohol and we had some gorgeous wine from them.

Phloembundle Sat 21-Mar-20 10:03:52

Plenty of businesses, including pubs, doing home deliveries.

Try a Groupon - case of wine from Spain is usually less than a week. Spanish consider wine an essential, so are probably still shipping,
