Anyone booked for The ‘sold out’ tea at Highclere Castle this Sunday? I haven’t booked for it, but am surprised it’s still going ahead!
I was actually looking at the website because I am due to go in a April with some of my fellow Women’s institute friends, travelling on a mini bus from London. We are mostly of a ‘vulnerable age’, I was more than a little surprised to see, at the moment anyway, the Castle is still due to open. Obviously because they will lose revenue if they cancel it (It’s sold out),
If I or any of my friends cancel now, we will lose out! I imagine they are shutting their eyes and hoping for the best. It does say they are taking steps to protect staff and visitors but not exactly what they are doing. It is a bit worrying!

I’d be very surprised if they’re allowed to go ahead, as pubs, restaurants etc are now shut by order.
They should refund you.

You simply cannot go on a trip like this next month because you couldn’t follow social distancing. In your position I would contact them, explain why you cannot go and ask for a deferment to a date to be arranged. Remember they are a business and will be getting financial help from the Government. If they refuse to defer it, then I’d get back to them saying I’m sorry they’re behaving like that, and I’ll now be sharing their behaviour with my FB friends, Twitter followers and legions of GransNetters. I can’t believe they are not cancelling tomorrow’s event ( or that people are irresponsible enough to be going) Personally just based on that, I wouldn’t give them my custom ever.

Does it come under pub, club or restaurant?
If so, then they should have shut their doors.

It could still be possible to wander the grounds and keep a distance.
Not all mothers are over 70!

But surely this is the type of function that is not supposed to be happening, as it encourages people of all ages to go out when we are told to stay away from others if possible.
Mother’s Day is just another day in the great scheme of things.

There are two issues here- the main one is OPs trip next month. As for tomorrow, I don’t know what the new rules mean - I would have thought a hotel restaurant would count as a restaurant and should not be open regardless of tge age of the mothers. It’s about risk reduction and avoiding spread, not just how old you are

Just been on TripAdvisor for you ( you’re welcome) Apparently they are now allowing rescheduling after at first refusing but then got bad publicity....they sound a nice bunch. Do you really want to go?

All organisations which DH and I belong to have postponed trips, meetings, breaks away until further notice or at least until the autumn.

My daughter's wedding next weekend in a venue owned by a prestigious hotel group, has been cancelled.
They are refusing a refund, despite them cancelling. 😠
They are fully booked for the next two years and want to reschedule DDs wedding for a year's time midweek. ☹️

No way will we use them, the way they have handled things is shameful. We realise the wedding can't go ahead' but she only found out, when she went on their website and saw they had ceased training.

People benefitting from others misfortune is s disgusting.

They are charging guests for the rooms, they can't use.

Have you tried writing to the CEO of the group Marydoll. Pester them a bit. You may get somewhere.

Maydoll if they still refuse a refund which they are legally obliged to pay because they cancelled, take to social media, that will bring them to their senses.

Marydoll, we all must be so incensed for you, that the hotel wedding venue, is taking this stance.
Surely, after the new rules that were issued yesterday, you and your daughter, should be entitled to a full refund.
As Nonnie, says, take to Social Media, and shout it out loud.

As far as I know, it was the CEO and directors who made the decision.

They think that because they offered her a slot next year, they don't need to refund.
Without meaning to sound melodramtic, there is possibility, I won't be here to see her married next year.☹️ This time last year I thought I would never make it too the wedding.

We shall rise above all this, the sadness has been tempered by so much kindness from so many people.

This hotel is prestigious in our town, popular for weddings, funeral breakfast and afternoon teas etc. I will ensure everyone knows of their shabby treatment.
I know of someone who has an afternoon tea voucher, who phoned last week to extend it, as they were self isolating, they refused!

That is so selfish and greedy Marydoll they need to be named and shamed. There are always those who put money before everything.

Marydoll - There is an article today in the DM re wedding insurance. Not sure if it will help or make you feel worse but worth a read I think.

What a nasty greedy business they are - I bet they pocket all the government money they can . When all this is over, we should have a long hard look at how different businesses have behaved and spend our money accordingly.

Oh gosh! I have just been looking at TripAdvisor as mentioned by suziewoozie.
How arrogant have they been!!? I am very disappointed with them.
Hopefully they will now realise how wrong they are. I didn't book the tickets myself, so will wait and see what transpires .. refund or reschedule the date!

Marydoll I think it’s time for you to name and shame!
Either on FB,
on Gransnet, bearing in mind that it might give so many people your whereabouts. But we will all email them telling them how disgusted we all are open your behalf.
Or on Trip advisor, people really take notice of recommendations, especially with something as important as a wedding.
So sorry though.

Britannia Hotel chain was rightly vilified for their appalling treatment of staff at Coylumbridge.
After all the exposure they have changed their stand.
Go for the naming and shaming. I suggest you start right here and now. Would be simple for us to find them on FB and tell them what we think of them!

We have discovered taht the wedding venue are open today for Mother's Day celebrations. They don't want to let down anyone!
What they mean is they want to make as much money as possible before they close!🤬
