Hello all, extra good wishes to you all.

Well, the newspaper (only once a week) needed to be collected from the village shop, so Mr P asked what else we needed. There were things that he had been unable to get from his supermarket trip, so I jotted them down, in clear, large print, giving additional verbal instructions suggestions.

(The village shop now has a "non browsing" policy, and have set up a counter in the doorway. Shoppers are encouraged to arrive with a written list, which they give to the staff member.)

His first attempt was aborted, he was shock to see the queue stretching 200 metres back down to the village square!

He came home, but said he would go back in an hour or so.

So, we had a light lunch (cheese on toast) and off he went.

I was planning to make creamed cabbage to go with the chicken hot pot for Sunday, so my list included a small green cabbage, and some cream.

I had actually said to himself "Don't get a white cabbage, it won't work, and if they don't have green cabbage, we won't need the cream, and we can just use the extra broccoli that you bought that we didn't need yesterday. He looked at me and nodded, as if to say "Roger! Willco!" and off he went.

The bit regarding "If no lettuce, get mushrooms, we will have to have steak, chips & mushrooms instead of our usual steak, salad & jp's" (Not as healthy, but needs must wink) seemed to have been taken on board.

However I'm now the less than proud owner of a very large white cabbage, and a large pot of cream confused.

I will list the white cabbage on the village FB page, there must be someone with a large family who can use it! (Can be left in a bag on our doorstep for collection) and I suppose I could make creamed broccoli!

Before anyone castigates me (big word for a Saturday) I really do appreciate the fact that Mr P does get the shopping, this post is meant to be a bit of lighthearted stuff!

I don't recommend it, rosenoir. Fried iceberg lettuce really didn't do the otherwise nice stir-fry any favours!

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 19:40:32

SirChenjin, in your post @15:03 today you appeared to suggest strongly that you cared deeply in regard to my remaining on this forum.

Indeed you stated in that post, "a forum which is overwhelmingly female dominated and which he doesn't have to be on". ?

I believe there is a recipe for peas cooked with onion and lettuce, but of course, as a mere woman I may have been a silly little flippertygibbet and got that wrong... Well, better get back to embroidering the pork chops, folding the kittens and litter training the tea towels....

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 19:45:16

grin

And your post of 19:40 appeared to suggest you’re failing again in your comprehension. You’re a man, it’s to be expected.

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 19:46:56

MamaCaz do you believe that fried iceberg lettuce would be better than the boiled salted lettuce that I had all those years ago. ?

May7 Mon 30-Mar-20 19:51:39

I'm not keen on iceberg lettuce is anyone else?? I think it's a bit watery
My favourite is Romaine, its crispy for ages and doesnt go brown when you cut it. I know you shouldn't cut an iceberg you should tear it (before anyone) pounces corrects me but sometimes it just slips my lil ol mine

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 19:54:00

Phoenix I am sure you are much better than how you describe yourself in your post @19:44.

However, we are what we see in the picture of ourselves, sadly. ?

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 19:58:39

May7 we grew in our salad garden what are named Butterhead lettuce last summer. They were gorgeous and we could cut the larger outside leaves off and they would quickly regrowth.

Cut and come again all season, lovely.

"And some fell on stony ground"

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 19:59:33

Ooh - back in the knife drawer, Miss Sharp.

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 20:00:09

That to the Misandry Official obviously.

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 20:08:27

SirChenjin, again in your post @20:00 you speak of misandry when I have and I believe no other forum member has mentioned that matter at all in this thread.

It would seem the be something which you have come to obsess on?

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 20:14:32

We are thinking of taking a chance and planting up at least part of our salad garden next week.

In view of the present lockdown would any forum member know where we may be able to order those plants online.

In the above, has anyone ordered such online and actually have them arrive alive. ??

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 20:19:01

I like the title Misandry Official bestowed on you by a previous poster - it suits you to a T.

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Mar-20 20:25:25

SirChenjin in regard to your post @20:19 today, I feel the title of Misandry Official to which you mention would be far better bestowed on yourself for in that it is you that continuously speaks on it and no one else in this thread.

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 20:30:03

Yes, you’ve already said I do.

GrannyLaine Mon 30-Mar-20 21:41:40

phoenix
Petits pois à la française and unfold those kittens immediately

phoenix Mon 30-Mar-20 22:03:12

That's the one, GrannyLaine!

Oh, must I? If only just managed to get their paws into neat symmetrical points!

(Went for the Bishops Mitre, the folds required for those fan shapes were too tricky, taking the tails into consideration. Do you think Manx kittens might be easier, folding wise?)

GrannyLaine Mon 30-Mar-20 22:08:06

They are perhaps a touch more symmetrical. Are you going for the dinner napkin motif or perhaps the terry nappy?

phoenix Mon 30-Mar-20 22:14:49

I was thinking dinner napkin (thank goodness you didn't say s. s. s. No, it's no good, I can't bring myself to use THAT word)

The kittens aren't quite big enough for the terry nappy, if they were I think I may have gone for the classic kite, but with a liner? Then I of course there is the added problem of aligning the folded kitten with the liner...........if course, if one had staff...........

phoenix Mon 30-Mar-20 22:16:28

No I before of course, of course, not if!

What on earth is going on!

Laughterlines Mon 30-Mar-20 22:23:05

Has anybody noticed when OH decides to do something off his own bat e.g. making a cup of tea, he stands back and wants a round of applause.

Good job we don’t need this every time we boil a kettle or change the bed or load washing machine.there aren’t enough hours in the day

GrannyLaine Mon 30-Mar-20 22:29:14

No, quite. Not the 'S' word.

You have reminded me of an unfortunate incident last year when my DDs lovely boy cat had to be pts (I'm trying to be delicate here) He had lived with me for a couple of years and DD was here when the vet came. I had found a little basket for him lined with soft cloth. Later that night, I couldn't sleep and came downstairs needing to give him one last cuddle. And then had the devil of a job getting his rather stiff body back in the basket.....confused

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 22:42:34

I shouldn’t laugh - but oh my goodness shockgrin I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s never easy when a pet dies.

That reminds me of a story that I heard about someone’s husband calling her out to the garden to see the grave he’d just dug for their beloved cat - complete with the tail sticking out of the ground. Quite why he’d buried it feet first is anyone’s guess...

GrannyLaine Mon 30-Mar-20 22:49:04

Thank you SirChenjin - its okay, I have quite a black sense of humour and my daughter actually found it funny when I told her (much) later.

I do hope the cat you are referring to finally got a dignified burial!
