Delivery firms, online ordering dilemma.

I read today that delivery firms are stressed that people are still ordering inessential items. I can understand why, but if we don’t order then surely the firms will go bust with no income. I’ve ordered things for the garden like seeds and compost as I’ve just moved to a house with a totally paved over garden and growing vegetables might be a good idea. What is essential to one person won’t be essential to another. We have to keep busy or we will go nuts. What do you think/are doing?

Currently ordering presents for daughter's 50th birthday. 24th.

All ordered so far have arrived with her.

It will be party via ZOOM this year.

It could cause a problem to the people who have to deliver the goods, as they are putting themselves at risk to do so. Similarly, it could harm the people packing the parcels in warehouses where it is impossible to observe the social distancing rules.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that one of the government spokespeople on the bulletins said that we should continue to order online to help the economy, and doing so is almost certainly safer than people going out to the shops.

It makes no difference that I can see if someone adds an inessential Easter egg or a bottle of bubble bath to their grocery order, as the risks are being taken anyway, but that is very different from someone ordering one of those things on its own from Amazon or eBay.

It may cause a problem because some workers may be working in unsafe conditions and will still go to work, and are not eligible to claim benefits because their companies are still operating. Some employers may flout the rules, and not all are in UK of course.

Many companies that I normally use to order from have ceased trading, or drastically reduced trade for this reason. There can be a long supply chain.

I think there is a delay on the items I ordered because the firms have had to set up even safer working practices than normal and, in at least one case, open a second warehouse and equip it.

It is sad if they have to cease trading, best to keep working if at all possible and as long as precautions are strongly adhered to, rather than have to rely on government money.

Banks had to rely on government money, and I think individual financial support now is paramount. It's pay back time.
I will be happy to pay higher taxes to help the economy recover when this is over.
Peoples lives matter more.
