In fact it was reading various threads/posts by some who have declared their good wishes for Johnson's recovery but can't leave it at that they come back with posts that prove it was all a sham.

As I said previously it is what is known as having a common respect for understanding the value of ' the time and the place'.

Another analogy would be when someone tries to imply empathy or liking for something or someone and then throws in the curve ball of showing their true feeling by using ' however' or ' but' or going even further to discredit.

It is rude of you POGS to suggest that those who are not fans of Johnson - of whom I am one - are not sincere in expressing the hope that he makes a full recovery.

It is quite possible to dislike someone without wishing them ill. Please don't presume you know what is inside other people's heads.

Men in positions of power having feet of clay is as old as the hills. It crosses political divides, religions, creeds and cultures. Nothing news shattering there.

Very undemocratic and I doubt it will do Johnson any good in the long run. Those who are put on pedestals are usually pulled down from them eventually. Let's hope this isn't the case this time and that he returns to do some good work.

Why can’t some on here believe that anyone who dislikes Johnson’s behaviour and/ or politics can possibly be sincere in wishing him a positive recovery from this horrible illness? That doesn’t follow surely.

I'm neither turning Boris Johnson into a saint that would be a waste of time, nor am I asking you to agree with my opinions. I simply stated that it isn't unusual to find that men in positions of power have feet of clay and that Johnson is no different. It doesn't matter one iota if you share that opinion or not. And I'm not sure why you're being so snippy about it.

Agree with the others POGS. It’s insulting and quite arrogant of you to tell those of us who wish him a speedy recovery but don’t like his policies that we’re effectively liars.

I have read posts, not on here but on fb, openly pleased that this virus has touched him like so many others. I find that appalling regardless of people's political beliefs.

BlueSky, I don't think like that and wouldn't wish harm on another human being.

However, I don't find it 'appalling' but quite understandable that others may hold these views.

As the government was so slow to react, so ineffective in organising the shutdown, did so little so late, others may blame them directly for all the needless loss of life.

Whereas I just see Boris et al as inept - others may view them as evil.

Heartened , and slightly amused, to hear that Boris is sitting up in bed, 'and engaging positively with the clinical team.'

I’m sure the clinical team are very grateful and relieved for his positive engagement whilst remembering how he and his colleagues have treated the NHS over the years and their cheer for the pay freeze vote.

I just want to be clear in my understanding, POGS. Lemon grove , are you saying that we cannot empathise with Boris being ill if we don’t like his policies ? So any statement of opinion about someone cannot contain “but” ?

So you could never say “oh I do love my friend X but I do think she drives too fast”. For example.

If someone who’s politics those pointing the accusatory finger didn’t like ( eg Corbyn whom many of them seemed to love to put the boot in) were ill would they be pleased? A bit of empathy wouldn’t go amiss here. We are human beings. My family have been touched by this virus and probably everyone’s will be at some point. I don’t wish this on anyone. There are hundreds of patients with this virus in ICUs. My thoughts are with them all. So don’t tar everyone with your own brush.
