What Gabriella is doing is keeping herself fit and should she decide to ride later, she will be keeping a horse fit. Both allowed in the guidelines.

Both GDs are still riding and our local stables are asking for any experienced riders to help out with exercising those horses whose owners are unable to at the moment, so thankful when people arrive to help out.

Well MawB, you're right in that I cannot 'justify' it, nor would I wish to.
I start my run at 05.00-5.15 and home between 06.15 - 06.30. I am on a towpath or edges of private fields owned by an acquaintance. I might 'meet' 3 other runners on the towpath in normal times but not that early.
It was the second time I have 'borrowed' the horse and yes, I see your concern but I was on private land this time, not roads, although to be honest, I did go down lanes to the farm shop last time.
I won't liken myself to those who go out to shop several times a week as well as their walk and as well as trips to shops for others who cannot go out.

People are far more likely to be in the vicinity of other people when they shop or nip out for the paper, than I am on a horse in a field or a 5am run.

The rest of the time I am home and either inside or on the patio.
Of course, I know that it's lockdown and socialising is out but I don't hand out gifts through car windows or have a drink with others on their driveways as there are no others to have drinks with anyway. Nearest neighbour is 2 fields away.
I'm perfectly happy on my own and shall continue to run in the very early morning and very late at night except on the day I do my shop and that trip will be my excercise.
I don't wear a mask not do I wear gloves (after NHS says they would spread the virus) and I wash my hands twice and face once with soap and water after being 'out' (off my premises)
I do hope that this explains my actions more fully but it is in no way meant or offered as mitigation. ??

Thank you that GabriellaG I am glad that you did not interpret it in any malicious way although I did have a momentary doubt when I read your reference to or have a drink with others on their driveways which I take as a reference to my neighbours and myself on Easter Sunday morning, as if there was anything wrong with sitting on one's own drive with a glass of wine while one’s neighbours do the same on theirs (about 5-6m away). Fortunately we all enjoy good hearing! Like clapping the NHS outside one’s front door, but in the middle of the day, in the sun!
Not having ever “nipped to a shop” during the lockdown or even in the preceding week as my weekly internet shop is delivered, I can’t comment on others who do and walking Hattie through fields around our village - also private land- I regard as restricted to my allocated hour.

No MawB I was not referring to you re the drinks on drives etc.
I was making a broad uncritical comment about the things many people on and off GN, do with neighbours and friends, and the gestures of help with bits of shopping for family and other people.
It was merely to say that in keeping with the spirit of self isolation, my contact with people is at a far far greater distance and is far less frequent than the majority of the general population but I reiterate, you have every right to point out your concern and I hope we all continue to make the best we can of these difficult times, whilst being mindful of the rules. ?

Well said Gabriella, apparently (Daily Mail yesterday, which we know is always right) it’s not a good idea to leave baked goods on neighbours doorsteps, but I wish someone would leave me some now and then!!!!!!

Popped in very late and as there are apparently 111 posters before me, I haven't read any yet. Anyway, good evening to everybody and I hope your day has been as beautiful as mine. It's been wall-to-wall sunshine all day so been outside - tai chi by the pond, followed by breakfast ditto, quick dash inside to do a quick tidy, then back to commune with the fish before starting on the grass again. Yesterday I moved the furniture around in the garden room (doesn't that sound posh - the Planners called it that, not me, because apparently it can't be a conservatory as it doesn't have a glass roof!). I'm still going through all the debris which now hasn't got a home. Where does it all come from? And where's it going to go to! Have a lovely evening everyone, or as decent a one as you can. I got through today on a maximum of three very restless hours of sleep, so tomorrow will be a lazy day methinks. ???
