What are you missing?

Coffee shops. All my paid for holidays (cruise to Norway, train to Uzbekistan (silk route) ,,,,concerts I had booked …..seeing people (I live on my own in a retirement flat) visiting my caravan that I bought to escape from the flat !!!!! general chit chat with people….being afraid to go shopping unless I get stopped ! Luckily I live 1 minute from the sea thank goodness, so have a choice for my daily exercise of two different coastal towns to walk to (taking my own coffee !)...still, I suppose if we stay safe that is the most important thing !

Family, first & foremost, having my 4 year old GD over for a sleepover. But I really miss having a good browse at the library looking for authors recommended by GNs, just not the same when buying for the kindle.

Annaram1 you CAN drive a short distance to go for a walk, though both our local country parks have blocked access for cars, because of the childrens’ playground, I suspect. People can still park nearby and get in through various entrances, though.

I am missing surprisingly little during this period - not even my choirs, which amazes me. I usually miss my singing a lot if I am away. I take a long walk each day, and have a few long-distance chats with people I meet, so I am not lonely.

My son does my shopping, but it would be nice to have a browse around. I passed our local Aldi yesterday, and noticed a fresh delivery of plants , including some lovely clematis. I nipped down there this morning in the car, and grabbed a good selection, plus a few grocery items. I usually spend a far more than I should on plants, so being deprived of access to garden centres is saving me a fortune.

Commiserations to those of you suffering because of the virus, in whatever way. I feel very lucky that it is causing me few problems, apart from stopping access to my family.

Outdoor watery bits. I miss being able to chug onto the Broad in our little boat and sit in the sun with the boat swinging gently. I miss being able to walk on our lovely Norfolk beaches - the nearest is only twelve miles away, but it may as well the other side of the country. And, at the moment, being in complete screening lock-down, I miss being able to walk into town.

Lunch with my husband, daughter or friends. I didn't realise how often I ate out until now. Sad to say I'm no longer one of The Ladies Who Lunch, I'm the lady who prepares lunch day after day after ...

All the freedom and things I enjoyed doing before this wretched virus wrecked life as we knew it .

As well as missing the family I'm really missing my regular swim at the local gym. I'm trying to exercise at home and have been doing the Joe Wicks for seniors work outs but it's not really the same.

Shopping for food and picking up tretas (my husband is doing the shopping as he drives and I don't, but he never thinks to get anything not on the list)
I was about to start a art appreciation class this week, that's been cancelled now. I was looking forward to it so also missing that

My children and grandchildren - heartache not to to see them.
Coffee and scones with my dear friend - a weekly treat.
Driving my old but much loved car.
The spontaneous decision to just go out and have a tootle about in the town, browse the shops and have a chat.

Me too!!!!! I am absolutely DESPERATE for seedlings/seeds for my allotment.

I have found some seeds in my old seed tin but only the dwarf french beans have shown thier faces so far. The rest are sulking. I suspect they are past thier "sell by date".

Usually, by now, I would be thinning the onions and lettuce and putting up nets to protect the baby plants. Instead, I am doing nothing but weeding.

Yes, I know it needs to be done but unlike in the past, I have nothing to enjoy looking at as I do it!

I can't believe that I was going to comment with "garden centres" and there it was....

The hairdressers, not just for my roots, but for the conversation which is always lively!

Apart from the family (children & grandchildren) i miss being able yo go out for meals, for coffee, meeting friends, holidays and days out at NT gardens etc.
We are lucky to have a garden and to live in the country where we can ho fir quiet walks but I am getting bored with all the local walks now- done them all so many times!
How ungrateful I am when I think of others in crowded towns living in flats with no gardens.

Just being able to do .......... anything I want. I did hear today that the vulnerable may have to stay inside until there is a vaccine

Freedom to do as you want be it shopping, coffee with friends , hugging . Just missing normality really.

@arthursfarm You paid £5 each for pelargoniums? Two weeks ago I bought beautifully sturdy plants already in flower from Lidl. I got a dozen for that amount.

I miss just getting in the car & going somewhere different, I'm still exploring Devon (moved here 5 years ago)

Garden centres, I have a small Nursery near me which is open, pick your plants from a roadside display & put money through letterbox (they live in the Cottage next door

Going to U3A meetings. Only three times a month but I enjoyed them.

CHOICE. Spontaneity, touch, independence, and, snooker on telly! And many of the misses others mention above.

My own space, there are 5 of us in our house. I love being on my own.
The hairdressers.
Meeting friends for lunch.
Going to work.
Jam donuts ????
