Are people dieting for when lockdown ends?

I only ask this question because when we went to Morrisons a lot of the dieting type foods were missing or the shelves were very run down. As some of you know DH and I have been losing weight for a while and whilst recently we've had problems getting our tinned pulses, there hasn't been an issue with sweetner and other 'diet' foods. In fact it's been easier because most people seem to have been on a treats binge. This time we couldn't get any own brand (cheap) granulated sweetner and had to pay for a brand sad. Also healthier snacks seemed to be in short supply. I wonder if people are preparing to go out and worried about how much weight they've gained.

We are on a low carb diet but I agree with you that’s it harder to get low carb things. I put it down to the fact that the supermarkets do not class them as essentials. A bit like bottled water.

I am, but I need to lose weight anyway (and I've gained 1/2 a stone recently because of the lockdown). I'm doing the Exante plan, and I get the stuff online.

I’ve been doing the 5:2 fasting diet for years now. I was tempted to give it up for a while and just give in to spoiling myself, but I’m glad I didn’t. I really don’t want to emerge from this with a weight problem. It’s easier to avoid buying too many treats and snacks if you shop online, and I’ve been lucky enough to be able to do this.

Well, I have been dieting as you can't go out for a meal at the moment so I thought it a good opportunity.

I have found that lockdown has enabled me to diet easily.

If asked though, I'd rather have no Coronavirus in the world and no lockdown - even if I did have to weigh a few more pounds.

I wish, I’m always hungry and looking for something to eat.

My previously healthy low cal diet has disappeared for now.

Partly because of not being able to shop for myself and partly that I feel I need treats as I live on my own and have to have something nice to look forward to.

I am vq from today! I’ve eaten for England during lockdown. Crisps. Biscuits. Wine. Salted peanuts. And Toblerone.

We have been stuck inside for 7 full weeks here in Spain without a daily walk and no garden. It’s been hard to be honest.

I’ve enjoyed eating. But I’ve gained weight and want to lose it (and some!).

LadyGracie...are you sure you're hungry? Sometimes the body mistakes thirst for hunger and sends the wrong message. Or are you a volume eater like me? A volume eater likes to feel full as much as possible and even overfull at times. I've discovered that if I bulk up at meal times I'm less likely to want to pick between meals (not never but less likely).

No not dieting but trying to eat sensibly but have the odd day when things go to pot,

I would have thought with all the walking and exercising people are doing that the weight would drop off naturally without having to buy special diet food.

It’s a bit of a sobering thought that a high percentage of those who have died from the virus have been overweight.

I'm trying hard to eat sensibly and walking during this lock down but I need to lose a stone or two. X

Many supermarkets are filling shelf space with essentials as they are in high demand, not diet foods which are not what most people buy.

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 22:29:22

It has been verified that you are more likely to get C-19 if you are overweight. Just looking at the pics of some victims shows the truth of the matter.

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 22:36:14

LadyGracie
Probably eating the wrong foods which do not fill you up...or else you're bored and eat for something to do.
You should only eat until sated, no more. Not until you feel over-full.
Drinking a pint glass of water directly before every meal will keep you from overeating.

I wasn't talking about foods made especially for dieters apart from sweetner. Mainly it's the healthy options that were missing or only had small amounts on the shelves.

I've always been an emotional eater and a yo yo dieter so worrying about coronovirus and boredom is certainly not stopping me eating cakes ( shop bought!) biscuits and wine.
I even have a box with a tap on out in the garage!!
There is always the hope I might lose weight after lockdown!

Froglady Sat 02-May-20 09:45:59

I seem to be doing the opposite and eating more high calorie snack food.

Cambia Sat 02-May-20 09:47:05

Definitely put weight on during lockdown. I know it is the wine, the gorgeous bread and Greek cakes! I was seriously underweight in the summer last year as I was ill, so at the back of my mind, I am now thinking, well if I get ill I have half a stone to play!! No motivation there then! Haven’t been able to exercise this week as I fell and was quite sore. Come Monday, come the revolution.....IT fasting and back to everyday walking. Our lockdown is being lifted, so that will help greatly. No more excuses!

Cambia Sat 02-May-20 09:48:54

Teddl you are very good keeping the wine in the garage! We have two 3 litre pouches (one white one red) both in the house. Will move them now. At least the extra steps filling up a glass might help!!

Growing0ldDisgracefully Sat 02-May-20 09:51:19

No but I think I need to make a serious start! Myself and the fridge, wine bottle and food cupboard have become very closely acquainted ?. My usual forms of exercise are not available due to lockdown, and I just can't find any motivation or enjoyment in just walking the streets, so doing that has been a few and far between occurrence. Boredom and stress are my guzzling triggers and those are available in wholesale quantity just now. Sigh.

Harris27 Sat 02-May-20 09:52:47

I’ve put on half a stone since lockdown and I’m overweight anyway. However if I had a date of going back to work I think it would give me that extra incentive to diet as I work with younger girls and they are mostly trim ha ha. Just need a push! We all said we would be obese or alcoholics by the time we returned!,,

Juicylucy Sat 02-May-20 10:00:45

Oh I wish since lockdown being at home all the time I’m forever going to the fridge. I’m usually out at work now when I shop I’m treating myself to biscuits, scones sweets crisps. I’m a size 12 ( well I was). But the urge to fill trolley with treats as I can’t go anywhere is ridiculous but I can’t get out of the habit now.

Seefah Sat 02-May-20 10:02:50

I think it’s all the publicity about overweight people dying of Covid! Everyone overweight is terrified. The ‘covid diet’ is the most effective diet I’ve ever been on, Ive lost 6 kg and still losing. Only another 20 kg to go lol.

My partner (civil partnership) is stuck on the island of La Palma where we have a small apartment. She flew out a couple of weeks before me and lockdown in both countries stranded us both. I had put on quite a lot of weight from my 4 months of self indulgence over the winter there. I looked at the situation here for me and decided that I could either sink into depression and an excess of wine or use the time to make improvements to my health. I’ve always been healthy living aware but upped my game with this by carefully planning meals for nutrition and no waste. I’m lucky that I live in a small town and can walk straight out of my house into the woods and up on to the moors. I admit that I’m out walking more than I should be but I see almost no one and it is keeping me sane through this ghastly time. I walk through the bluebell woods early in the morning and on the hills after lunch. When it’s too wet to walk I do 30 minutes kettlebell exercises. I’ve managed to lose about 10 pounds and actually feel better than I have done for quite a while. I am a great fan of ottolenghi recipes and can spend several hours creating meals. It passes the time and I’m looking forward to getting back into my bikini when we can travel again.
