Well, whaddya think?

I thought he came across very well. No long words. No faffing. Plain and simple.

Anniel Mon 11-May-20 15:02:11

I just cannot understand why some people wanted more detail. If he had sat there for hours giving detail then they would moan that his talk was too long.

Today’s Parliament should tell us more of what we want to know. Most detractors are anti Tory pro Labour people who will never be satisfied by anything the government does. As for those people who are on furlough with their employers making up their money as well, many on Mumsnet tell us how they have enjoyed the lockdown and have no desire to return to work. The magic money tree will soon wither and the deficit will have to be paid and the economy needs to get back on track. I often wonder how many younger people would have coped with WW2. The virus comes nowhere near what we experienced then.

As for those people who are on furlough with their employers making up their money

The government are making up their money. Let's get it right.

The magic money tree will soon wither and the deficit will have to be paid

Would you like to explain just where the government is getting the money from and why, and to whom, do you think the deficit will have to be paid?

Good post Toadinthehole

Calendargirl I don't know where you live but all the teachers I know have been working every day, devising and delivering online lessons and doing all sorts of planning and assessments behind the scenes. Many of them have had their own children at home too.

Lilypops Mon 11-May-20 15:09:30

Year one can go back to school and play , hug each other. Lick each other, but no mention of the 10 family members that could meet up who have been isolating , you can go in a park and sit there ,but not there !, I get that year 6 need to get back to prepare for secondary school in September , but the rest doesn’t make sense to me and DH ,

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:10:09

Do the people who are amazed at others for finding the message was confusing think that those other people are thick?

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:12:15

Exactly Lillypops. It's just downright stupidity. Not only will the children be spreading infection, but their teachers and other school staff won't be provided with adequate PPE.

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:13:59

In WW2, there were very strict civil obedience laws in place "Annie1*. There was also a competent PM and government.

Sawsage2 Mon 11-May-20 15:17:45

If you're a red you will find fault with it. If you're a blue you wont. Simples?

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:19:06

Having just scrolled back a few pages, I'm really quite shocked at the number of people who have called other people stupid.

Whatever happened to the "will of the people"?

If people find an allegedly simple message confusing, it's because it was communicated badly.

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:19:58

Sawsage Are we all boxers now? Don't they have red and blue corners? confused

MayBee70 Mon 11-May-20 15:20:17

People now being advised to wear a mask in public places; too late for all of those people that possibly got infected on the tube today. Even then the advice seems to have been dismissed by some members of the government this morning. But now later the advice seems to have changed. It's all clear as mud. Even MP's don't seem to know what advice the government is giving out.

lemongrove Mon 11-May-20 15:23:11

The will of the people ( i.e accepting that there were more voting for Brexit than voting to stay in the EU) does not apply
In this situation......how is even mentioning it relevant?

The message was clear enough as many on here have already said, so yes, am wonderingly slightly about those who seem to be permanently confused.

theonlynamenottaken Mon 11-May-20 15:24:10

Not too much has changed except unlimited daily exercise. The message has always been go to work if its possible to socially distance but otherwise dont. I think its confusing that you can socially distance from people you meet in the street but avoid family.

Xrgran Mon 11-May-20 15:25:54

On R4 this morning debate was can you meet 1 person from your family outside in a park if it is no further than 60 miles away from your home ? Dominick R says yes then OK if both parents as long as they are under 70 then says from same household ? I understand that a family member can meet another family member outside and with social distancing? And are babies counted?

Wafty15 Mon 11-May-20 15:27:04

Boris seems not to have consulted the other 3 nations that make up the UK.I live in Scotland and we are keeping lockdown which is a good thing. Lets get very few deaths for several days then slowly come out of lockdown. Are big business pushing Boris.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 11-May-20 15:28:02

theonlynamenottaken there have been GN members admitting meeting up with family members for a socially distanced chat which ended with them hugging their GC........we are not likely to hug a stranger! Which is probably part of the reason not to meet up with GC

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:39:52

I didn't even mention Brexit!! Surely the will of the people is a universal principle and applies in all situations.

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:41:00

So you think those people who are confused are thick lemongrove?

lemongrove Mon 11-May-20 15:42:04

It was a phrase employed by many about the result of the Brexit vote, I have never heard it applied to anything else either before or after.

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:42:49

theonlynamenottaken What has changed is that the furlough scheme has been cut, so people will be forced back to work, even if their workplaces are unsafe. It was all smoke and mirrors to cover up the main changes.

lemongrove Mon 11-May-20 15:42:51

I couldn’t possibly comment ?

growstuff Mon 11-May-20 15:45:15

Oh come on now lemongrove! It was all supposed to be about democracy and was allegedly a universal principle. Don't tell me it was a slogan to fool people. Tut tut!

All people either matter or they don't.

maddyone Mon 11-May-20 15:49:16

I’ve just seen Keir Starmer asking, in Parliament, if the guidelines will be ready for Wednesday when people go back to work.

lemongrove Mon 11-May-20 15:52:39

It was democracy in action, over a million people voted for Brexit ‘over’ the amount who voted to remain.
Who alleged it was a universal principal? It wouldn’t be the case in China, after all!
It was a phrase bandied about at the time to show that it was a democratic vote that should be honoured.Which of course it should ( and in the end, was.)
