Hi all,
I have decided to start a treat yourself society here on GransNet as I feel as we are trying to be kinder to one another, we also need to be kinder to ourselves, especially in times like these. Who’s with me?

I’ll start, I treated myself to three tops and a beautiful pair of pyjamas last night (my mother gave me some money to treat myself).

I also thought it might be a good idea to encourage our loved ones to do the same.

So, let’s have a lovely thread, a lovely time treating ourselves and a lovely treat.
Take care,
FlyingHandbag x

I have bought myself another book, The Yellow Admiral by Patrick O'brien. It's the 18th in the Jack Aubrey series. I was up to the 14th when the lockdown started, and I have been reading them for years - taking it slowly to spin them out, as he won't be writing any more (on account of being dead). Now I think that, due to the virus, I might be dead soon, so I might as well read them all....

Yes, I am such a cheerful soul to have around. Looking forward to getting the book, though. It is a fabulous series. The characters feel like old friends to me now.

Once you have started a thread it has a life of it's own so there is no necessity to reply - although feed back is nice!

kittylester I feel guilty that everyone has written lovely messages and I am unable to answer them promptly. I hope I don’t seem to be ignoring anyone, I appreciate each and every message. X

I have been treated to a Peter Hahn striped top and long line cardigan courtesy of DH as it was my birthday last week. Much more expensive than my usual choices, I will make sure they last.

What a nice thread, my indulgence was Tea from Fortnum & Mason.I love their tea and usually buy from UK Airports, but this wont be for a while. I love ASSAM tea so I bought tea bags and loose leaf tea to fill my F&M caddy.I thought I was worth a treat, the postage abroad was as much as the tea cost! Now I am off to have a lovely cup of tea.

I have been treating myself, but more in a self care way, not at a financial cost or materialistic way. I am still working in social care, so feel I need to look after me. I have scheduled in chore and treats for each day with treats being things like a soak in the bath with candles and facepack one day, a foot soak/home pedicure another, use my mini massager one day, a bar of chocolate with a latte one day as unable to visit coffee shops... etc. Loving the pampering!!

Luckygirl DD has had a lot of clothes from Shein. She pays peanuts for the clothes & chooses carefully & looks stunning in them as she's very petite & smart...doesn't take after her mum!!

I treated myself to a new dress from Bombshell. I absolutely love their dresses and now have 6 in my wardrobe. They're not cheap so I usually hope & pray the ones I fall in love with go in the sale & sometimes they do - this one did! It's every bit what I was hoping for & expecting and I'll be wearing it for DH's birthday next weekend. We've also been treating ourselves to a lot of chocolate....We've discovered Seed & Bean, it's absolutely delicious!!

vampirequeen have you decided about the bike?x

vampirequeen Sat 16-May-20 13:33:18

Me too. It's fascinating to see what people buy as treats.

FlyingHandbag Sat 16-May-20 13:30:32

I’m really enjoying reading about all your purchases! X

I treated myself to a summerhouse, my she-cave. I read, knit and watch tv in there. Love it!

I've brought a posh coffee machine that I'd been thinking of getting. Whilst in lockdown it was reduced in price at Curry's so although not an essential purchase I ordered it. We've since been enjoying a lovely treat twice a day when we sit down for 10 minutes and enjoy a lovely coffee. It had also made up for the fact we've not been able to get out to a coffee shop or pub for a meal. The economy needs boosting so why not treat ourselves and as you say remember to be kind to ourselves as well as others ?

I treated my self to a smart phone, my old one was ancient. I love it especially WhatsApp. oh and a new soft leather handbag and some new sandals and several metres of fabric. That will do for now.

We've treated ourselves to a holiday. It's on a Haven campsite which is somewhere we don't normally go because we're not keen on big camps with entertainment complexes. However this one is called a hideaway site which means no entertainment complex. The thing that persuaded us though was the price. 4 nights in mid September for £62. Yes £15.50 a night. We'd be lucky to find a tent campsite for that price and we'd be hostage to the weather. This caravan comes with hot water and heating so the weather won't be an issue. It's within easy reach of Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby on the coast or inland to Pickering (for the steam engines) or even to York so whatever the weather we'll have places to go. Haven are offering a no quibble full refund if they're still closed so it's a win win situation.

A lovely idea, but many people are having a financial crisis and can’t spend money, so this could make them feel worse.

notgoneyet Sat 16-May-20 12:56:05

My granddaughter sent a video the other day of her twin boys (15 months) sat on the floor with lovely chocolate-y faces, surrounded by chocolates and an empty Dairy Milk box. They'd found her birthday chocs!
So yesterday I ordered her a box of six little cocktails from Tapp'd Cocktails to be delivered in the next day or so and hope that makes up for it lol.

I bought myself 2 bamboo tunics from Thought Clothing. I love their stuff. Then went a bit wild and bought Leopard print leather trainers from La Redoute. Not sure if I will dare to wear them.

I treated myself to the latest Thermomix. Have had one for years but this one is Wi-fi connected and has thousands of recipes. It’s amazing!
