Oh Marydoll it’s so difficult to accept your extended lockdown and especially the cessation of your treatment. No wonder you wept. Life is extremely unfair to some right now. Hope today brings you some small joys to buck you up. Take care. ? ?

Good Morning Tuesday
(77 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its looking like another dry day here in Brackley but you never know we may get some rain.
Housework routine this morning , then maybe some cooking , I have some Chicken thighs which i will cut up and place in frying pan once cooked will add a jar or sweet and sour sauce , c/w boil in bag rice .
Plan is to place into take away containers for future use.
Mind you yesterday I did some boil in bag rice in a microwavable saucepan which as a lip ,and was not a sealed container , this due using a high setting ,, caused a hairline fracture in the saucepan, any way went online John Lewis and will pick up replacement when I shop in Waitrose tomorrow .
Take Care , we do not want this biological warfare pandemic to take over us.
Mick
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Cloudy but a dry day in prospect for South Yorkshire. We had a nice walk in the Hope Valley yesterday but the weather was not conducive to photographing the wonderful views. Not sure what we’re doing today. I have some basil seedlings to transplant though, so that will keep me busy for five minutes! Have a good day folks.
Marydoll and Grammaretto ??
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Cool again to start. We had a beautiful evening in the sunny garden with G&T.
I cried with MaryDoll when we heard we are to be shielding for the forseeable.
Angry on your behalf about the treatment put on indefinite hold.
We are going to be allowed out for walks at last. I am afraid I have forgotten how!
So different in NZ where they have got rid of the virus and DGS is able to hug his friends.
Yoga on zoom soon.
Have a lovely Tuesday all of you.
Good morning from a dull but fine mid-Notts. I think I'm starting to feel a bit down about life in general atm. I know I shouldn't complain because lots of people are in a much worse situation than I am. Like everyone else I miss the everyday things - children, grandchildren and friends. I need to have a word with myself as Mr BA would say!! Stay safe whatever you are doing today and may Tuesday be kind to us all x
Good morning everyone from a sunny Essex by the sea.
I had a phone call yesterday from DD1 who is worried about DGD1. She wanted my advice as DGD won't talk to her or SIL about what's making her unhappy, she's only 11.
I think we all have our worries whether we are 5 or 95, life is so uncertain at the moment.
We may go to a local garden centre this morning, I need some potting compost and some larger pots for my indoor plants. No other plans today.
Have the best day you can and stay safe everyone xx
Good morning
It's a brighter morning with some sunshine, but the clouds are gathering, so not sure if the sun will last all day. As long as it stays dry, that's the main thing, as I'm hoping to cut the grass today. The rain of the last few days has made it sprout! ?
You must be so disappointed about the continued shielding, marydoll as 31st July seems such a long way off. Having said that, I feel as if the weeks since lockdown began have sped by in some respects, so perhaps 31st July will be here before we know it. Nevertheless, it's a blow that it means your treatment is on hold yet again. ?
Good to hear you got to the beach yesterday, urmstongran. I bet you enjoyed that. It must seem a bit strange it being relatively quiet though without the influx of tourists yet?
Hope today is not too bad for everyone. Take care.
For Marydoll, Grammaretto and other shielders ??
Good morning from sunny Colchester.
A walk to Lidl is all I have on the agenda today.
The charity shop I volunteer in is not opening until September, our weekly coffee meet up has lost it's venue and I don't expect to be back at Walking Netball before autumn.
It's going to be a long Summer let's pray the weather is kind.
Love to all xx
Good morning everyone from a partially sunny Gower.
Yesterday's cloud disappeared and gave way to a beautiful afternoon and, inevitably, interrupted my cleaning spree ?. The question now is am I going to finish the cleaning today ?. Seems like a nice day to get out in the garden and do a little sketching to me ?.
Marydoll and Grammaretto I understand the upset you feel by the announced extension to shielding, especially when that also means a further delay to treatment. Here in Wales the extension is until mid August. I know they say it's guidance but it's hardly just that when it puts other medical treatment on standby. Sending you both ??.
Things are improving in the UK though, figures are lower - we will get there everyone.
Take care everyone and make the best you can out of the day. Special thoughts and ??? for those that need them ❤️
Good morning from a dry and bright NE.
Yesterday was another day of worry, I spoke to my sister last night after she returned from the hospital. She is very emotional and quite drained from sitting for several hours in gown, mask and gloves in the ICU.
I must look online for washable face masks for the long term, we have some disposable ones but will not be shopping with Dick Turpin . com again.
Take care.
Good morning from the NE coast where I woke to lovely sunshine at just after 6am but it’s clouded over again now and the temperature has dropped.
I spent far longer at “that place” yesterday than I had intended but managed to get caught up with a few bits and pieces . It’s so depressing sitting up there on my own. The little office is in almost permanent darkness because of the roof overhang so you have to put the lights on to see anything. It’s very cold too for the same reason .
Your picture of life in Malaga sounds so idyllic Urms how I would have loved to be on that beach in the sunshine. I bet it seems strange without the usual influx of holiday makers.
We’ve have got the beautiful unspoilt beach here but it’s bloomin’ freezing and the sea is almost permanently grey these days . You’d need a good wet suit to swim in the North Sea right now !
Interesting you refer to the pandemic as “biological warfare” Mick I didn’t have you down as a conspiracy theorist . My son is convinced it was man made and deliberately released . He then thinks that China will come up with a cure and hold the world to ransom over it .
I think a lot of young children will have huge worries that they are keeping to themselves right now Sar53 . I know my DGS (10) has been having a few nightmares lately and I’m sure it’s because of all the scary stuff that’s going on around them.
So sorry to hear that NS did not offer the news you were hoping for Marydoll and that you must continue to shield. I know it’s easy for me to say .....but things will have to return to some kind of normality eventually . You always seem to be able to keep busy and manage to stay cheerful and in the best of spirits . Just keep on keeping on, lovely lady
I hope everyone has the best Tuesday possible . I will catch up with the posts in a little while.
Love, Gillybob x
Oh so sorry , meant to mention you as well Grammaretto . You must’ve been very disappointed with NS’s announcements too. I love the Scottish Borders . DH and I used to spend a lot of time around the Tweed and love walking the Chain Bridge between England and Scotland . Happy memories
Good morning Mick and the GM team from a bright east London.
I woke up feeling a bit flat today. I haven’t heard any news about the continuation of shielding in England, so am waiting to learn more.
So sorry to hear that Marydoll and Grammaretto have had the situation in Scotland clarified and extended. Cherry are you shielding too? Mid August in Wales. I dread to think what the situation will be here.
I must say I think Nicola Sturgeon has done a good job for Scotland during lockdown. She seems honest and straightforward. I often watch her briefings. I think I would prefer to learn any bad news about the continuation of shielding from her, rather than Johnson or Hancock. Their words sound increasingly hollow to me.
Oh, I’m a grump this morning. I have now been shielding for 13 weeks and I’m a bit stir-crazy... Sorry team.
Have a good day, all and special good wishes to those (including the shielders) who need them. ?
Good Morning from a bright, sunny N.,Cambs.,
Reading all your comments has given me the bit of a push that I needed, after a rather downer-type of day yesterday, plus another restless night.
Mick, you sound very organised.
Urmstongran, what a wonderful, cheering message.
Gingster, have a safe journey to Suffolk, I hope it's not long before we are back at our little home-from-home in Norfolk, (my downside there is that we don't have internet there).
Also many others on here, thank you.
"I must try harder".!
Marydoll, I hadn't heard of up-dates on the shielding, sorry, that sounds grim, you seem to manage so well, I love to read your comments.
I have a sister & sister-in-law, (in England), who are both in the shielding group, I'll have to find out what the rules are here now. I'm not in the shielding group, (just rather old, with a few health issues).
It's 12 weeks since I went into a supermarket, now I'm torn between wanting to do my own shopping, & being scared to do so.
Take Care Folks. x
Good Morning Everyone from a sizzling, blue and windy morning in S of France. I’ve chosen to read through all the posts in bed (not much change there, then!). The bedroom doors are open to the courtyard (no upstairs in my house) and I am watching a wonderful little Hummingbird Hawk Moth busy on the flowers. How I love them, my first many years almost convinced me it was a tiny bird.
I am beginning to get irritated by my lack of glasses - sunglasses first. It has been 10 days now. In England my Optician would put my glasses into a machine which instantly took all measurements and then pressed buttons which sent a proper chart and new prescription to the people (in Wales?) who would make the new lenses and send them back by courier to the Opticians in 2 or 3 days. Fantastic. If that happens here, which I very much doubt, the lenses must be going to Wales and back courtesy of a very reluctant pigeon - with a note - and he’s clearly stopped off many times en route to visit friends all over Europe. At this rate I’m not going to let them do my normal glasses : it’ll be six weeks or more before I get everything back. Here’s hoping that by the time I need another eye test, I’ll be free to visit and able to pay for one in England.
Still, hey ho, any errors in this post or grabs for power by Autocorrect which I don’t spot will be forgiven.
Sounds like a fun day in Spain Urms and hope it’s a truly happy one...you all want Wine and not Whine today to celebrate your parole.
Loved your Autocorrect’s comment on the ‘bears’ !!! I know that they hang out in parts of the Pyrenees, but wondered what attracts them to the beach.....could it be the cigarettes? Or maybe the new cushions on the loungers - maybe older bears who like some comfort while they lounge!!
Disgusted for you Marydoll and all others affected. I know the aim is to keep you safe but the whole exercise has been like pulling hens’ teeth - change the date, wait, change the date, wait etc., Still you’ve got big girl pants - you’ll get there; and now, of course, you’ll have that stunning portrait to put with your badge application. It must be wonderful having your very own David Bailey to make you laugh - or us laugh, possibly. I did wonder where that poor old dear who follows me around had gone to - now I know she’s moved to Glasgow. Phew! That’s a relief.
I actually put on some makeup yesterday for a fabulous Zoom chat with our Norfolk friends. That was so lovely, can’t wait to do it with someone else. (The chat not the makeup). Just shows what we have been missing.
Wishing us all a wonderful day - whatever we’re doing, however we’re feeling. Let’s keep trying to ‘accentuate the positive’ - that’s all we’ve got really!
Hugs to all and please keep safe. X
Good morning from a beautifully sunny Cardiff, the last of the good weather this week, I think. So we are making the most of it meeting my sister and BIL for a picnic at a local beach - within the 5 miles perimeter (almost!).
I have a news bulletin to send out to church members keeping them up to date on the Zoom church services and will put some money into my DD's account as they celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary (should have been in Florida!). Then, later will sit in the garden and read - bliss!
We two (my husband therefore me!) still shielding as are many of us, it’s been far more than the threatened 12 weeks of course, now another 4. We are getting a short walk as suggested and he is driving again locally, parking up for me to go to docs surgery , but of course no shops or visiting . Saw my son briefly last week, first time since March 17th, dear daughter-in-law also shielded so he is between a rock and a hard place. Still onwards and upwards everyone ‘shut in’. ???
Good morning from a bright, pleasantly calm morning in Glasgow.
Oh no ! Those were my immediate thoughts for you both Marydoll and Grammaretto when I heard Nicola say shielding would be extended, especially as a date for your treatment is now further away Marydoll ?
We went for a walk around our local park yesterday and whilst enjoying a change of scenery and the fact it wasn’t busy I was still wary of mixing with people especially the few who didn’t wear a mask. I can’t say I’m in a hurry to go again, just yet anyway.
A day pottering around the garden again which I have always loved doing. It helps me relax and and at present, a trip to our local garden centre when it was quiet will keep me going for a while.
Hope you have a good day today BlueSapphire and hopefully you are feeling a bit more positive ?
How lovely for you to see your DGC and now your DS kitty I’m sure this must have put a spring in your step.
Have the best day you can everyone along with wishes of something to brighten your day for those of you feeling down.
Good morning from NE. After a sunny start, it’s clouded over and a bit breezy - bedding out to dry soon!
Has anyone noticed that in ‘deep’ lockdown, all the unwanted/nuisance calls had stopped?? Now it’s partially lifted, I’ve already had 3 this morning!
Hope everyone is well today and stays safe.
Sorry to hear you and your DH have had your shielding extended too Megs
Thankyou Kalu
Good morning from Wales.
My birthday today so hoping to go for a socially distanced walk with my son later.
No,it wasn’t autocorrect Grandmafrench - ‘loaded for bear’ was intentional. It’s a saying. Have you heard of it before?
This - from Urban Dictionary - explains it better than I could!
‘To be prepared, mentally and/or physically, for extreme opposition; typically used in reference to an aggressive or potentially violent situation.
The phrase originates with American hunters and woodsmen in regions frequented by the brown bear. Brown bears are the largest land-based predator on earth, and when expecting to deal with them the hunters would bring much more powerful rifles than they would if hunting other game.’
