Good Morning Everyone,
Its a grey ,wet and windy start here in Brackley this morning, my usual Friday shop.
Just up the road the Fish & Chip shop as reopened and I am tempted to get take away F & C for a change.
Popped into the bank yesterday first time for about 13 weeks , its working on a one in, one out basis.
Otherwise a usual day at home .
I did hear from usual trip and holiday operator , providing a SAE as well what Holidays I had scheduled for August .
His staff are furloughed as well, his masterplan is to either have breaks in late Autumn or 2021 , depending on the distancing as to coaches and hotels etc.
Take Care ,
Mick

Good morning from an overcast NE yet again.
I think it is nine days since I have been out of the house, no fresh air at all. I am reliant on DH for asssistance so just taking myself off is not an option.
Friday already so we may get a video call from DS and DIL tonight, luckily they live near to beautiful open countryside so can exercise.
Take care and stay safe.

Good morning all from a soggy North Leicestershire.

We had an expensive shop yesterday Topsy as my wine was on offer too.

We have the gardener coming to finish up the heavy jobs today. She is a really good find and it turns out that we know her parents.

Expecting a plumber later as there is an awful noise somewhere when we turn on the hot water - not every time obviously and presumably not while the plumber is here!

AgeUk have a collection van in Waitrose carpark today too so that will be a jaunt out for us.

Pantglas2 Fri 19-Jun-20 08:30:34

Morning all from a dry north Wales where where I’m still lolling abed and laughing out loud at Marydoll- I have visions of her careering like a runaway ?!

Titivating day for me as my hairdresser friend who’s coming for a curry tomorrow will cut my hair before we eat so must make the rest of the phisog and bod look presentable!

Hopefully some restrictions will be lifted here in Wales after today - fingers crossed ?

Lins1066 Fri 19-Jun-20 08:30:50

Good Morning Mick and all. Cloudy and damp here on the South Welsh coast. A fruit and veg delivery from a local greengrocer today, the quality is excellent.
DS cycled 18 miles in the rain yesterday, rather him than me.
Glad you are alright after your turbo charged meander Marydoll, it's the way you tell them ?
A quiet day in prospect here, that's fine. The five mile limit stays in place in Wales for the next two weeks. Stay safe everyone.

Puzzler61 Fri 19-Jun-20 08:47:54

Pants you used the word phisog and took me back to my dear dad who used the word often (and a lot of others that were a bit different). Is it a Welsh word? He had Welsh family connections -he was adopted as a boy and lived on the Herefordshire/Welsh border.

gillybob Fri 19-Jun-20 08:50:04

Good morning from the NE coast where we have another grey and miserable day making 2 weeks of cold, damp, rubbish weather .

I spent all day at “that place” yesterday . Did the HMRC webinar about part time furloughing and the end of the scheme, which was as clear as mud as usual.

Decided to do a bit of pulling out and sorting (it keeps my mind occupied) and made one or two phone calls trying to drum up some work . Nothing doing but did get an appointment to see a customer next week . ?

Scottish Power have put my home fuel up to £150 a month which is a huge amount for me to find every month . I couldn’t argue because DH has had the heating on an awful lot. Apparently I’m almost £500 in debit . The weather has been so cold and miserable here lately I guess the heating will will be on throughout most of the so called summer too.

How lovely that your decorators gave you flowers and chocolates GrandMattie What a kind gesture that was, do enjoy them .

Your post made me laugh Marydoll I could picture you stick in the field and squeezing through the gap in the fence . You must’ve looked like a pair of naughty teenagers trespassing on a building site grin

I’m popping up to “that place” again for a couple of hours then might pick up a bit of food shopping on my way back . Exciting times.

I hope everyone has the best Friday possible . Love Gillybob x

Grey again today. It tipped down yesterday and then got sunny in the afternoon. I walked round to our local Tesco with my trolley , they have a good one way system and never too busy. Glad you could have a walk/run Marydoll! and that Scentia is feeling better. We walked up to the park yesterday to see the Red Arrows, so fast we hardly saw them! Met some neighbours and walked back with them and had a socially distanced g and t in their garden, very nice, almost normal! Must make soup today, go to the butcher and do more on the sofa.

Puzzler61 Fri 19-Jun-20 08:52:10

Just looked up the word on a fact finder site.
Says it’s , and I quote, “a vulgar form of the word physiognomy” - the face!

Anniebach Fri 19-Jun-20 08:55:21

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

jacq10 Fri 19-Jun-20 09:06:55

Good Morning Mick and all. Another grey day here in the north of Scotland but the forecast is of it breaking through later in the day and the weekend looks promising. Good to read everyone's tales especially Marydoll's escapade round the building site. Haven't heard the word "fisog" since my Dad passed away over 40yrs ago - thanks Pantglas2 - brought back happy memories.

Franbern Fri 19-Jun-20 09:19:29

Good morning all from Weston super Mare. Was still tipping it down when I got up at seven this morning, and felt chilly - I even shut the small window I keep open all the time in the Living room, However, it seems to have stopped now.

Nothing much for me to do today. One of my teenage g.children is coming this afternoon. They had got into the routine of coming on Friday afternoons as their 6th form college had no Friday pm lessons for them. Obviously, that all stopped, and this will be the first time since early March. They want me to teach them how to knit........getting needles and yarn ready for them, hope I can manage this.

Their Mum and youngest brother will come by a bit later also (my bubble family), so wagon wheels (current favourite), will be made available,.

My local fish and chip places do have a delivery service and I have been very tempted, but not sure how they would take to being asked just to deliver ONE portion.

The heavy rain these last couple of days, has made me so happy that i now live in my lovely flat and do not have the concerns about drains./gutterings overflowing or even about getting the lawn cut (as in my old house).

Only just discovered this thread and it is lovely to read comments from all over UK. Many thanks to you all

gillgran Fri 19-Jun-20 09:21:52

Good Morning from a grey, damp N.,Cambs.,

Bit of a wobble yesterday as DH had a call from hospital to say he is booked in for an operation early July.
It's needed, but non-urgent, ( was put off when everything closed down, in March). So we are trying to get our heads round that.

flowers to all who need them. Take Care Folks.

Bellasnana Fri 19-Jun-20 09:23:09

Good morning everyone from Malta where it is already hot and sticky. Or perhaps it’s just me as I’ve just washed all my floors which is quite a job.

gillybob my heart aches for you. You’ve been dealing with so much for so long and yet you always have a kind word for others. I so wish I could help you instead of just sympathizing.

Puzzler you’ve reminded me of a game we had as kids called ‘Phisogs’. It had been my mum’s when she was young. I forget how it was played but it had an assortment of cards with eyes, noses, mouths etc and we had a laugh putting them all together to makes faces. I wonder what happened to it?

Yesterday turned out better than planned as a friend called to ask if I’d meet her for coffee, which I did. Also filled the car with petrol and did a quick shop for milk etc.

I’ve run out of steam after my exertions this morning, so it looks like another day on the sofa.

Mick I envy you your fish and chips. We can get them here but they just aren’t the same as in the UK. Enjoy yours anyway, nice to have a treat.

I wish you all the best day possible.☀️

Gelisajams Fri 19-Jun-20 09:28:27

Good morning from a still cloudy Morecambe Bay from where I an just back in from my morning walk.
A quick glance at the posts, I’ll go back and read properly later, had me laughing out loud at the vision of Marydoll hurtling down that slope! So glad no damage was done and you had a good cushion to break your run!
May go off to the garden centre later to get some plants for the church garden, it’s looking quite bare now I’ve taken out the weeds and reduced the thugs!
Take care and stay safe everyone.?

Grandmafrench Fri 19-Jun-20 09:29:53

Good Morning everyone. Hot, sunny, blue here. (Same old, same old ?). I just caught a rear view glimpse of DH - sand coloured shorts, red t-shirt, bare feet and with a red ribbon trim on his straw hat. He’s pushing the very long handled brush along the walls of the pool and I suddenly thought...a Gondolier!!

Clearly longing for a trip away, that’s me. Of course we can travel now in Europe but I’d so much like to go anywhere without the, should I, could I, must I, ought I .......dare I ? Just to leave home without thinking about distancing and hand gel and queuing protocol etc., - what a (relaxing) joy that will be.
Oh well. Slowly does it!

So pleased your DH had a safe run to the Hospital, Gingster wonder why men get so cross about keys but only ever think about carrying them when it’s too late! Sar53 I second Nfk’s suggestion. Maybe your DH cooks already but amongst our friends all the H’s cook and are really interested in planning and buying for meals. All the French husbands we know.......well, they’re mostly shocked. They cannot understand this ‘new man’ stuff! Their Wives? Mostly green with envy ?.

I don’t know anyone, man or woman, who hasn’t had some concerns (pre-retirement) about how their lives will change. However, even the biggest worriers have all said afterwards “ how on earth did I find the time to work?!” We say the same in this house - although we retired early, and often worked a 12 hour day before that, we’ve never been so active, occupied, relaxed or content in our different world. So seize the chance and your new freedom and enjoy it all. And once we regain our total freedom from Covid threats.......just watch us go!

If all the forecasts for 30 degs for some of the UK come true - next week? - don’t panic. ?Unless it’s very windy and you can create a stiff breeze through the house, keep blinds and curtains and windows closed all day. Only open everything up in the evening, when the temperatures drop. Remember to sip water all day to avoid dehydration. Wear a shady hat outside and plenty of sunscreen and wear loose clothes. Go mad.....have a siesta in the afternoon. You might actually enjoy it! ?

Yesterday evening I was totally engrossed in a programme about Vera Lynn/the War on tv. The very moment that Neville Chamberlain’s famous words ended with ‘and Britain is at war with Germany’ there was an explosion of noise outside our windows sooo loud I thought my life was about to end. Whatever screamed across the sky and along the coast had gone before we raced into the garden. It was a mystery but such a noise! Then hearing on the French news that La Patrouille Française had been performing in Paris with the Red Arrows yesterday - and then in London for President Macron’s visit, we decided that they had gone back to base in Provence and maybe thought to finish their day with a little jaunt along the Med’. Mmm! Please let us know you’re coming next time you decide to go out on a jolly, boys. It might prevent legions of your fans from injuries sustained from diving under their beds!

Have an enjoyable Friday and to all who are unwell, sad, down or just considering a wobble...hugs and hope and good wishes from ????

Pantglas2 Fri 19-Jun-20 09:35:48

I’ve always used the word phisog/phizog for face and have just checked - it comes from the Greek physiognomy relating to facial expressions!

Reading through , I saw reference to Blue Sapphire , on another posting as to missing GN members it was her I was referring to, as she lives in Northampton .

Good morning everyone from a grey wet Gower, where it rained hammer and nails yesterday and seems like it's more of the same today.

I had quite a day yesterday. One of my friends rang me from A&E where she was with her father who had "scratched" his arm but had actually cut an artery. She had gone in the ambulance with him, obviously in shock, had no money or mobile phone and was stranded. She and her father have been shielding together like me and my WP have so we decided to take a common sense approach and went to her rescue. They have kept her dad in overnight and he will be assessed later this morning to see if he can come home. ?

The weather was horrific though, it wasn't an easy drive for my WP. The car was "floating" on the water through some parts of the journey.

It seems that a gentile couple decided to take a stroll out yesterday, to take in the sights and air. An altogether simple and modest affair. Marydoll ?.

A bit of baking and some of my "non-artistic" artwork today I think. It's such a miserable day that I feel like cocooning myself up with the things I enjoy.

? for those feeling poorly or down today.

Be kind and gentle to yourselves everyone ❤️

Hymnbook Fri 19-Jun-20 09:58:32

Morning everyone. It's a bit dull here birds are chirping. Partying in the park again last night they finally decided to go home about 2 30ish this morning. Another bad nights sleep. If l can gather myself l ought to pop out to the shops. Got to collect my prescription so I've got to get up. I'm hoping to see my sister tomorrow if it's not stormy. Hope everyone has a good day.

BladeAnnie Fri 19-Jun-20 10:00:25

Good morning all from a grey mid-Notts - fine atm although rain is forecast. We had a visit yesterday from Mr BAs eldest son who we have not seen since February. It was lovely to see him although the weather was not really very kind and conducive for sitting outside!! Hopefully DD2 will be paying us a visit tomorrow - not seen her since February too. Stay safe everyone and may Friday be kind to us all x

Good morning from the Scottish Borders. Dull, dreich and wet here, having rained in the night. . How many more times do I have to say "well the garden will be glad of it"
We have a glut of lettuces which I keep trying to give away.

DS was going to come over this weekend as it's DGS birthday and Father's day (I'm told) but they have postponed because they are very busy.
It's true. Young families have too much to do whilst we have hardly enough to keep us out of mischief.
See MaryDoll for an explanation grin

I tried a test train journey to see how often they go and the price and was put off by the fierce messages on the railway booking site.
Is your journey really necessary? etc.
Well no it isn't but I would like to be well prepared when it is.

Catching up kind of day with my first "legal" walk squeezed in hopefully.
Have a good day all you GM gang.

skipperbelle Fri 19-Jun-20 10:26:20

Good morning all and of course Mick. It's still raining in South Devon but the forecast is good! Hoovered down through the house yesterday and considering all the precautions I will need to take before opening up the B&B again in the future. Airbnb have quite rightly blocked our calendars until mid-July so we'll see what happens later. MaryDoll, what an adventure you had although I know exactly what you mean about running involuntarily down the hill! How fantastic to have that view of Ben Lomond. I'll probably start a painting today. Stay safe and well everybody!

Mapleleaf Fri 19-Jun-20 10:35:57

Good morning from a grey, miserable South Yorkshire. Still dry but looks as if the rain isn't far off. It never stopped yesterday, so everything looks very wet and very lush, but the poor roses look very battered. It also meant no socially distanced meet with my two neighbours either, which was a shame. Looks as if next week could be on the up again, though.

Not sure what's in the agenda today other than a bit of ironing. I might bake a cake as we've eaten up the last one I made and DH is wanting another one. ?

I haven't read through everyone's posts yet, but got as far as marydoll and her escapades through the woods to look at a new housing estate. I have an image of you running/rolling non stop down the slope and crashing into your DH and landing in a heap at the bottom!? Dearie me, Marydoll you don't do things by halves, do you ???. Your escapades certainly brighten my day. I think you should write a novel or submit a weekly diary to one of the women's magazines - it would go down a storm. ?

Well take care everyone. ? for those of you feeling low, Ill or generally out of sorts.

Georgesgran Fri 19-Jun-20 10:50:06

Good morning from Durham. Bright and breezy here.

Hospital just phoned with appointments for DH on Monday afternoon and all day Tuesday.

I’m in the same boat as Gillybob - E0n have hiked my dual fuel to £175 because DH is always cold, so heating’s on most of the time.

Has anyone got Attendance Allowance here? Is it complicated to claim?

Bit of weeding later. Gardener cut grass on Tuesday and makes the weeds more noticeable!

Stay safe everyone.

EllanVannin Fri 19-Jun-20 11:06:41

Good Morning All x
The usual watery sun which indicates more showers as usual. It didn't stop raining all day yesterday so it was umbrella time to visit the nurse at the surgery.
What a confusion that was ! I rang the front door bell which was answered by a nurse in full space gear who snapped at me asking where my mask was ?

For goodness sake, said I, I've never worn one and haven't been told to, a panic took place while a mask was being found----meanwhile I could have been in and out while they were looking for one. Did they know something I didn't ? No temperature taken on arrival either. Too many cooks syndrome.

Unworn mask in coat pocket, I came home pondering the panic and confusion they seemed to be all in. I was glad to get back. They only want me to wear a mask outdoors-----no thankyou, I've done without for 3 months so why start now ? No wonder I smoke to keep me calm from this mad world.

Anyway, after that Brian Rix farce, all was well with the INR and I enjoyed my braised steak an hour or so later. I go through it all over again in a month's time grin still, it was normal so what have I got to grouse about ?

Local shop after then settle back into hermit mode which will be my norm as I don't intend to visit supermarkets etc until next year.
Usual fish day, new pots and peas. Plaice today.

Just watched the final journey of my neighbour's son who died last month. I hadn't realised the hearse was just outside in the parking area until they all drove off. It was full of flowers. There had been a lot of comings and goings from her flat this week with various visitors.

I miss the hoover so I'll look online until this one's fixed, one of those " charge " ones will do for now just to keep the cat hair at bay.

Hope all is well with everyone . I notice plenty of heat's in store for Urmston and co. next week, 40 degrees for Spain and surrounding areas, lovely.

Thoughts to those who are a bit under the weather and above all stay safe everyone. xx Coffee time now.
