have you bought any new clothes during lockdown?

I ask as most of us until recently had no where special to go and it seems pretty pointless spending money on new clothes we cant wear outside of the home and garden. I bought two tops online and after they had arrived i thought why? they are hanging in the wardrobe with tags still attached. I have made a pact with myself not to buy anything else this summer and have just unpacked the suitcase with tops for summer and will use those after washing to freshen up.

Not yet. But a sale is looming so I may be tempted!

Yes I'm afraid I've succumbed. I love Bombshell dresses and now have 5 - I tend to buy them in the sale & I was keeping a careful watch to see if the one I had my eye on was going to be reduced. Luckily it was so I bought it and wore it when we dressed up for Mr C's birthday. Unfortunately Boden keep sending me emails about huge reductions and I couldn't say no to a beautiful navy shirt dress with white spots on with a 40% reduction the other day & a pretty wrap over dress a while ago. I really must unsubscribe or I'll have to move out to make room for my clothes! I feel a large clear out coming on....

Well.......no intention of visiting shops on Monday but mid afternoon felt a bit bored, too hot for a bike ride or dog walk so decided on a gentle stroll around our market town. Curious to see which shops had re opened as most closed during lockdown. Somehow I was lured into a small dress shop I rarely visit and came out with a dress I have no need for and nowhere to wear to. hmm. Have since convinced myself that I am supporting our local shops and the economy ( Boris told me to do it!) and retail therapy is good for my well being. Love the dress too ?

Just one pair of shorts from Roman they re re nice and fit well Just got a packet of high leg knicks from Asda today that’s my lot

Yep. Afraid I have. Rarely visit shops anyway. If I cant buy it online I dont want it. I know thats “wrong”- decline of the High Street etc - but living rurally online browsing/ shopping is a treat. Just learnt Long Tall Sally is closing. Gutted as I’m tall
and have shopped with them for 40 years. So had to buy some linen and smart trousers “just in case”. Otherwise normally shop in online sales. Loads about at mo. Have bought 3 dresses- at least 2 will be returned - for a planned/ postponed May wedding. Bought couple of maxi dresses in Boden sale. Love their stuff. AND they cater for taller ladies. Im an insomniac and spend too much time watching shopping channels. Bought a lovely Monsoon linen top on QVC at a fantastic price. Have also discovered a FB Site that auctions bits and bobs for a dog rescue charity and am enjoying that. Every little helps as they say. Plus have sent mini cakes to various friends and family members who are struggling one way and another. My niece has a new beautiful baby girl so bought her some lovely bits and had them delivered from Notonthehighstreet. Love them. And cards sent direct from Funky Pigeon as I had used up my supply at home Not all as extravagant as maybe it sounds, but gotta keep the economy moving !

Yes, and I was doing so well resisting the impulse to spend too. Had to get a new cafetiere as old one burst it's glass all over the worktop and me. Inexplicably this appeared to open a floodgate within. I then bought an Alice Temperley dress from the Somerset range at JL , reduced from £99 to £30. Next came some lovely wooden toys for when I finally am able to have my little granddaughter nearer than a hop , skip and a jump away. Next came some Kuhn Rikon kitchen snips as husband decimated last pair by pruning Ivy with them. Finally, a silk shirt from Boden in this morning's sale.
I'm poorer but happier !

A sleeveless dress for the heatwave, new bras and knickers from Ambrose Wilson.

annab275 Sun 21-Jun-20 13:49:10

I usually buy from charity shops so of course that hasn't happened. Since we have been locked down since March, I ordered a couple of dresses and tops from Cotton Traders, new socks from Seasalt, and that's about it. Nice to get something unworn for a change! I am also not slobbing about and ring the changes so I am not stuck in jeans all the time . I actually wore a skirt yesterday that I bought last year in a Roman sale.

Helen2806 Sun 21-Jun-20 14:10:37

I’ve bought quite a few things. I lost a load of tops on holiday last year ??????
And was very short on summer stuff anyway, so all the on line offers have been great for me, especially Weirdfish sales.

I've just bought a pair of Skechers from Ebay. They're brand new, and with a £5 discount cost £32.

They are very comfortable to wear, a real bargain.

No clothes (too many in the wardrobe to fit more), but books, sewing accessories, books, painting stuff, books, an Actifry and some books. Also some hair dye remover after I got Violet colour, which turned out to be the blackest black, instead of my usual Punk Purple. Hair is currently a disaster area.

Rosalyn69 Sun 21-Jun-20 16:00:07

Too many to mention plus scented goodies and face potions and all manner of stuff.
Open shopping season - a licence to spend money.

Maybelle Sun 21-Jun-20 16:38:59

Only brought some socks, and only then to make up an order of bed linen on M&S to qualify for free delivery.

Bluecat Sun 21-Jun-20 17:12:48

No new clothes. Doesn't seem much point. I haven't bought anything but a couple of books. DH has bought some DIY stuff, which is necessary but boring (not to him, he loves it.)

I am currently browsing the Internet for a blood pressure monitor (for him) with an atrial fibrillation alert (for me.) It's all fun when you're old!

MamaCaz Sun 21-Jun-20 17:29:58

No, nothing.

The only clothes I would even consider buying without trying on first would be knickers and socks, and right now, I don't need any more of those.
No way could I be bothered with all the hassle of returning the 99%of things which, if my usual in-store experience is anything to go by, didn't fit!

I do need new jeans/trousers but I will just have to make do until OH deems it safe for us to resume in-store shopping. hmm

kissngate Sun 21-Jun-20 17:52:06

Bought three t-shirts and a pair of jeans all M&S online. Also bargain trainers from Skechers which have been worn daily.

Happysexagenarian Sun 21-Jun-20 18:24:18

I bought bras, knickers, a sundress, and comfortable summer shoes, all online and all a good fit. I also have a gift voucher for BonMarche (a Christmas gift) but have not yet seen anything on their website that I want. Most of my lockdown spending has been on craft materials - same as usual really.

Chewbacca Sun 21-Jun-20 18:29:27

Thanks for that Annodomini! I've not bought anything at all since February and now I've been on the Hotter sale website, I've seriously undone all my hard work! An amazing sale on there though! smile

narrowboatnan Sun 21-Jun-20 18:29:57

I got my summer clothes out of hibernation in their vacuum bags and found that quite a few of them, mostly cotton tops, had shrunk over winter! Shocking! I bought a couple of nice, lightweight and stretchy, wide leg jumpsuits and short sleeved T-shirts on line from Sainsbury’s Tu range. I love the jumpsuits so much that I’m going to order at least one more. Fingers crossed that these don’t shrink when they go away for the winter, eh?

lemongrove Sun 21-Jun-20 19:05:32

After all the extra snacking I should buy a few Hattie Jaques type dresses to float about in, then nobody would notice my extra pounds....or stones.?

Treebee Sun 21-Jun-20 19:56:10

I’m afraid I’ve bought more clothes than I usually would. Knickers from M&S, several colourful tops from Kettlewell, 2 dresses, a top and some jeans from Boden and a cardigan from Fat Face. They all give me much pleasure.

Lin663 Sun 21-Jun-20 20:00:32

I have bought loads! No need to be scruffy just because we are in lockdown...it’s important to keep the economy going .....also, I am following Weight Watchers and keep dropping dress sizes, so that’s a bit of an incentive to keep shopping grin

HillyN Sun 21-Jun-20 22:05:40

I bought a couple of new tops to wear for online meetings; no need for anything new on the bottom half as no-one sees them!

justwokeup Sun 21-Jun-20 23:06:37

No nothing, waiting to go into the shops again. Might be quite a while. Actually, most of my additional clothes last year came from the charity shop. Not much spare money in retirement and I'm saving it to treat DC and DGC (which will include me of course).

Kim19 Sun 21-Jun-20 23:11:07

Not a thing and my cc hasn't half noticed.
