The terrorist was apparently known to MI5 yet was granted asylum.
One of the dead was a much loved and respected teacher.

What a waste.

Horrific

farview Mon 22-Jun-20 13:43:22

Seems to be most of the 'terrorists ' are already known to one department or another!!

JenniferEccles Mon 22-Jun-20 13:55:16

What does it take to get them deported these days?

Poppyred Mon 22-Jun-20 14:11:28

Do they have to attack or murder before anything is done?? So angry!

JenniferEccles Mon 22-Jun-20 14:42:36

So am I Poppyred

The chilling fact is that this individual is not the only one here, supposedly simmering away with hatred for us.

Oopsminty Mon 22-Jun-20 14:46:06

There are reports saying this could be a homophobic attack

Whatever, its a tragedy

Three young men's lives snuffed out

Calendargirl Mon 22-Jun-20 14:49:21

Listening to the 1 o’ clock news, the BBC Security correspondent, Frank Gardener, explained the difficulties associated with assessing these individuals and deciding the risk factors.

It opened my eyes to how, like so many things, not as straightforward as we think .

I gather he was in the care of a mental health team and had been seen by them the previous week. Seems there were failings all round resulting in needless deaths.

My GD goes to the school where James Furlong was head of History. A great shock for them all but especially for his family. There were no lessons at the school today and none sent for home schooling. What a tragedy for such a talented and respected young man.

EllanVannin Mon 22-Jun-20 16:03:10

This is very rare----lessons will be learned !

JenniferEccles Mon 22-Jun-20 16:13:14

Yes that stock phrase always trotted out in cases like this.

The ‘mentally ill’ aspect will probably mean we are stuck with him once some human rights lawyer gets involved.

EllanVannin Mon 22-Jun-20 16:14:54

I'm sick of the " mentally ill " excuse too JenniferEccles.

trisher Mon 22-Jun-20 16:18:42

The young man came here when he was 17. He suffers from PTSD, and has other mental health problems He claims he was a child-soldier.. He had recently been in prison for minor offences.
A tragedy all round and a complete failure of all the departments that should have cared for him.

EllanVannin Mon 22-Jun-20 16:25:25

Yes, we're " stuck with him " to join the other 230 terrorist prisoners languishing in our jails.

AGAA4 Mon 22-Jun-20 16:26:36

It is very worrying that there are many of these possible terrorists on MI5 lists. Not enough people to watch all of them.

Random attacks like this will happen. Ms Patel says we must stay alert but how can anyone defend themselves against a crazed man with a knife intent on killing.

EllanVannin Mon 22-Jun-20 16:31:36

Alert because of the virus and now alert for madmen too.

JenniferEccles Mon 22-Jun-20 16:39:49

Well in that case the minute he offended he should have been sent home.

Why can it not be made clear to anyone wishing to settle here, that if permission were granted, it would be on the condition that if they offend they would be deported immediately?

AGAA4 Mon 22-Jun-20 16:48:40

I agree JE. Why keep these potential terrorists here when there is a likelihood that they may kill people.

These attacks keep happening and it's time to get these people off our streets.

Andrew Pearce (sp?) has tweeted that his imprisonment was for the so called minor offence of carrying a knife, and his sentence was only up two weeks ago.

trisher Mon 22-Jun-20 18:46:14

And your point is GrannyGravy13? If he was carrying a knife and we had a decent mental health service he would have been better supervised and cared for. As it is all we do with people who are mentally ill and possibly violent is lock them up in prison and then turn them loose on the general public.

Jaycee5 Mon 22-Jun-20 18:52:35

trisher I agree. This constant refrain that 'mental health' is an excuse even with people who have a proven history of it is unhelpful. People can't claim to be unaware of how poor mental health treatment is under this government It is generally but it has deteriorated greatly over the past decade. Cuts have consequences and unfortunately neither the ones making them or defending them are the people worst affected.

It is not always possible to know if someone with a mental
illness will take their own life or the life of another .

grannypiper Mon 22-Jun-20 19:37:37

It is high time people were vetted before we allow them to enter our country.
The brother of this one says his brother was just protecting himself ! So either he was there with him or he is a lying POS trying to cause trouble, he reckons the police are lying and the country is racist. Time he was booted out of this country along with any other family members. If he hates the U.K why is he here ? He is not forced to stay
