Would she demand they change the name of the official residence then? Well, cannot possibly call it The White House can she?!?!?
Mandelson failed security vetting. Starmer says he didn’t know
Not so out there as it initially seems if Kanye is up for it too!
H&M have big ideas for themselves, or so it seems.
I read a week or two ago, that H&M's people were looking into the knotty problem of have access to a title and keeping US citizenship. Its been on and off the agenda since before the wedding.
According to the law you cant have a title and be a US citizen, and you cant enter into politics if you aren't an American citizen.
So if I understand this correctly perhaps H&M are aiming higher for their future careers?
Well it worked for RReagan, and Clint Eastwood and less well for Swarzineggar!
It would be a natural progression given the 'platform' H and his connections have obligingly supplied.
M has made it no secret that she wants to position herself at the forefront of public life.
What could be more in line with this wish than being in politics?
From H's point of view being a minor royal 4th in line, with all the constraints of protocol, dont compare with the glamour or financial rewards of being the husband of the first female President.
Even a senators life cant be all bad. At least you get to call the shots.
Makes sense of all the peculiar things she/they have done in my mind.
The only thing that doesnt fit is saying they want to stay clear of the press, then courting them!
Maybe it that's initially what H wanted, a life free from intrusion, but changed his mind when he saw the benefits of supporting his wife's ideas?
Perhaps the court case is more about controlling the press now and in the future, than simply protecting their personal lives?
Maybe it was a misjudged manipulation of information by M? After all her friends leaked the letter.
Who knows? I certainly dont!
But watch this space, I think M&H think they are the next Kennedys!
Would she demand they change the name of the official residence then? Well, cannot possibly call it The White House can she?!?!?
Dear oh dear
Has it escaped your attention Anniebach that being a black American and being a white American leads to very different outcomes in almost every area of public life? To a lesser extent, I believe the same can be said about the UK.
So, you can say:
Black people are, by nature, more prone to anti-social, criminal and violent behaviour and because of this they are likely to require more rigorous monitoring and restraint;
Some black people engage in anti-social and criminal behaviour and turn to violence if they are apprehended but the actions of individuals should not define a whole group and if a black person is suspected of wrongdoing he or she should be treated in the same way as anyone else;
Some white people, and that includes those who administer the law, whether consciously or unconsciously, have a stereotypical - or even racist - view of black people. They may respond to incidents involving black people in a different way from incidents involving white people. There is sometimes mistrust on both sides, but an unnecessarily confrontational and heavy handed approach reinforces fear and mistrust.
Unless a person actually believes that black people are intrinsically morally and intellectually inferior to white people, it is, I think, reasonable to conclude that there is something about white society that discourages or prevents black people from participating fully at all levels of commercial and public life. The fact that it happens - and has been proved to happen - either causes resentment and mistrust and a corresponding unwillingness to comply with the rules of a society from which a person feels alienated, or it creates a sense of hopelessness, apathy and a lack of aspiration.
The history of what happened to black people also cannot be discounted. People who have a history of being seized and taken to various countries to be cruelly exploited and brutalised - their identities, language and culture forcibly erased - are marked by that history. Slave owners were richly compensated for the loss of their substantial incomes but the slaves who lost everything - their country, their names, their freedom - were ignored. Then they see these exploiters celebrated in history, statues erected and glowing tributes attached.
There was a news item the other night about Jack Leslie, a reportedly brilliant black football player who was denied the chance to play for England because he was not white. After a successful career, he ended up in the boot room of West Ham United cleaning the boots of up and coming players.
We have many talented and articulate black football players in this country yet still they are severely under-represented at senior level. This is just one example. Would you not feel angry if you were black?
Powerful post Eleothan. There is institutional racism throughout white society which we need to eradicate by means of education and good example.
I do think though that we need to be careful not to see racism where it doesn't exist as this will create resentment and exacerbate tensions.
Many posters who are not racists do not like Meghan Markle for many reasons that are not to do with race. I for one do not like the whole 'celebrity thing' of which she seems a part. Don't like the Kardashians, Holly Willoughby, Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt, Piers Morgan and many more but I do like Joanna Lumley, Paul O'Grady, Emily Maitlys, Idris Elba and many others all for different reasons, none to do with race.
I would not like to see Trump returned to office but hope to God we never see the Sussexes in the Whitehouse either.
Michelle Obama would be my choice without a doubt, even though my politics are more centre right, but apparently will never happen, great shame.
H1954, disgraceful post.
I obviously got the wrong impression. I thought she and Prince Harry wanted to give up being in the public eye? However, since retiring from royal life, they seem to have done their best to draw attention to themselves.
They do say fame is addictive!
We have many talented and articulate black football players in this country yet still they are severely under-represented at senior level.
Not sure where you got that from, Eloethan but they're not.

Let's not let fiction win in all this

And that's from 3 years ago
Oopsminty
BBC Sport October 2015:
"It could be 30 years before black and minority ethnic (BME) managers are properly represented in English football, according to a new study.
"The second Sports People's Think Tank report found 23 out of 552 elite coaching roles are held by BME people.
"That is just 4% of the available positions, despite 25% of players being from BME backgrounds.
"Former Reading striker Jason Roberts said it was due to "unconscious bias" at best or "possibly racism" at worst.
"There are six black managers at the 72 Football League clubs.
"Ex-Blackburn and Wigan forward Roberts, 37, is a founding member of the think tank and told BBC Sport there was a lack of "urgency" from the "footballing family" in addressing the issue.
"Dr Steven Bradbury, of Loughborough University, carried out last year's inaugural study, which found there were just 19 BME managers and coaches at elite level across all 92 professional football clubs in the English leagues.
"He calculated the "slow" rate of increase in 12 months meant it would be 31 years before the figures accurately reflected the number of BME players currently in the game.
"The report concluded, for a second year running, that "a form of institutional discrimination" continues to limit opportunities for BME coaches."
I did not say there aren't many BAME players. I was saying that they are under represented at senior levels of the sport.
You were talking about footballers Eloethan
Here's a reminder
We have many talented and articulate black football players in this country yet still they are severely under-represented at senior level
No changing the goalposts now!
Meghan Markle isn't being attacked, she is being criticised.
She is being criticised for her behaviour, not her race.
That criticism also encompasses Prince Harry.
Have Harry or Meg taken up playing football ?
I really don't get what you are saying Oopsminty . I have not said I wasn't talking about footballers. I referred several times to footballers and the main point I was making is this:
"We have many talented and articulate black football players in this country yet still they are severely under-represented at senior level."
I am not moving the goalposts at all. You just haven't read - or understood - what I was saying.
Have Harry or Meg taken up playing football ?
Wouldn't surprise me, Annie. Must be time for another bandwagon to jump on.
Today's was picking holes in the commonwealth. All going swimmingly until somebody reminded Harry about the existing videos of him calling a fellow officer a little P*ki and another one a rag head! All in the best possible taste, of course.
Ooops?
H1954 You commented on the fact of changing the name of the official residence if she should get in. I think that was a nasty comment to make saying they could not call it the White House. !!!!!!!!!!!
Peardrop50 has said that was a disgraceful post. I agree with that.
Just pointing something out to you though several years ago my son and a few friends were playing on one of those media games and you can talk to the people you are playing either on headphones or loud speakers. They were playing someone from United States. So two of my sons friends were black ( all okay with me) and some banter got going and this American remarked that he was playing against black guys. To cut along story short several things were said about black people however one of the friends of my son said well you cannot say much these days as you have a black man as president (Barack Obama) Oh yeah he got in and is taking over. My sons friend said to him have they painted the White House yet? because now they should be calling it the Black House. They all started laughing and thought it was a good joke, I told them it was nothing to laugh about and I said it was a rude remark to make.
People have these thoughts that is what life is like sometimes.
Indeed merlot. ooops
3nanny6, indeed they do. I'm white, but my family is mixed race. People that don't know me well feel it is acceptable (and safe) to make racist jokes and comments. It is my responsibility as a non-racist (regardless of my family background) to confront them. We all need to.
As a matter of fact, the White House WAS built by black slaves. So really, it's ALWAYS been the black house. As has much of America's wealth. Just hasn't been SHARED with those that earned it.
lemongrove ....
that'll teach me to spout my thoughts on GN!
I have no time for the royal family anyway, but after hearing that remark about rag heads and pakis, I decided I thoroughly disliked Harry.
However, he has obviously moved on from that, otherwise it is unlikely he would have married Meghan.
He was in the army at the time where there is certainly evidence of racism and some very right wing ideas. He came from a very rarefied background, with a grandfather who is well known for his "politically incorrect" views and comments. It is unlikely Harry coined the phrase "rag head" himself but is likely to have heard it being bandied about by his army colleagues.
Eloethan : I have little time for people that make remarks in a derogatory way about others so to make a remark about rag heads is not good taste.
It would do well to have some empathy for Harry as many times I have heard friends refer to him as "the Ginger Minger"
obviously he would not have suffered that at school because of his background but many other children get picked on for having red hair.
I have seen beautiful children with ginger/red hair and like it myself others are not always so king especially in the case of Harry.
I made a typing error in my post I wrote king and should have wrote kind how odd seeing as I was writing about a royal.
The video of Harry and Meghan's meeting with young leaders from the Queen's Commonwealth Trust shows a very awkward Harry, almost unable to get a word in. Meghan is firmly in control of the whole meeting and has plenty to say!
If it weren't for her marriage, she wouldn't have this platform.
Well, she's certainly got it now!
merlot Harry is often unable to get a word in, eg. in the Tom Bradby interview "As I was saying to H (that's what I call him) ........ " blah blah.
It's not often I agree with Piers Morgan but.....
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8497895/PIERS-MORGAN-Confronting-inequality-uncomfortable-watching-Harry-lecturing-world.html
Oh Merlotgran, I missed that part of the video when Meghan was doing all the talking.
The bit I saw on the News had Harry talking, and Meghan was turned sideways, gazing intently at him all the while.
Checking he didn’t mess up what she had written I expect.
Good grief can she talk, she doesn’t pause for breath , he is so
out of his depth
