Ar coatings on glasses

I had AR coating on my varifocals. It did stop some of the glare, but seemed to attract grime and grease to the lenses and they forever needed cleaning otherwise I could barely see through them. It became really annoying so opted not to have it on my latest pair and I’m much happier.

I had AR coating on Zeiss lenses. I found them very smeary and despite using wipes, they never looked crystal clear. I don't do enough night driving to worry, so went back to non AR coating.

I have it on my Zeiss lenses but can't see much difference. Not worth the money.

I just got them and after reading the comments... Yes, they get really smeary and end up worse I think

Eeuw, sounds horrible!

Don't know what AR coating is. but my lenses are photo-chromic (change into sunglasses in sunlight) and varifocals and I've never had a problem with them .

AR coating is an anti- glare coating, nothing to do with photo- chromatic.

I have it on my vari-vocals and I can never get them clean they always look smeary no matter how I clean them.

That should be varifocals

Try these overglasses. I have pairs both for sun and also anti-glare when driving. They are brilliant. Amazon and ebay have them.

I’ve had AR coatings on my glasses for years and I’d never go back not having it. I’m shortsighted and used to have a reflection of my eye in the lenses - horrible! They also do help at night, even if you don’t drive. I don’t really think the lenses get more smeared because they’re coated it’s just that it shows up more. I shouldn’t think it would make any difference with your prismatic lenses but your optician will advise.

I always use the ziess cleaning wipes. No problem.
