Protective gloves when shopping

What is your opinion?

Lots of people seem to be wearing them when out and about but it seems pointless to me.

Sussexborn
Leaving the nose uncovered defeats the object of wearing them!!

Wearing disposable gloves is worse than no gloves. The disposable gloves to be effective should be disposed off after touching one item,

I wear disposable gloves when in the supermarket - just think how many people have handled the goods before they get to your home.

Since my stroke, and lack of dexterity of movement in my left hand, I can only put gloves on with the help of my teeth!

I don't wear gloves but sanitise regularly. I take an antibacterial wipe to do my trolley so I don't have to touch it unsanitised until I get to the stuff the supermarket set out. I have ordered a shield because I can't stop adjusting the face mask so think it is more dangerous to me than not wearing one.

Don't wear gloves - pretty pointless when you are just transferring bacteria from one place to another.
Just plenty of anti bac - carry some in my handbag as well and wash my hands as soon as I get home. Wipe shopping down (food mainly) with a bleach solution and anything else gets put on one side for 72 hours.

When I go shopping I put hand sanitiser on my hands when I get there and rub it over the trolley handle. I was my hands well when I get home to get rid of the sanitiser. I used to wipe down my shopping but gave that up very early on! I seem to have got away with it so far!

A friend in Italy told me that in their supermarket they are given disposable gloves to wear when entering the shop, even if they are already wearing their own!

I haven't been shopping since lockdown. (Getting cabin fever now). When I do venture out I will wear a Mask and probably gloves, just for peace of mind.

I wear glove in the belief that they protect me more than a mask.. curiously in my supermarket, I’m the only one but about 30% of shoppers wear mask which they then fiddle with, wear under their chins, remove to cough...

Craftycat Fri 17-Jul-20 09:57:06

No of course not!
What nonsense.

Dianehillbilly1957 Fri 17-Jul-20 09:45:29

Not to wear. I sanatize my hands before & after entering a shop. Then thoroughly wash when I get home. My hands have never been so clean! I think gloves give a false sense of security & more likely to cause the spread of the virus unless gloves are constantly changed.

I keep a pair handy when out shopping in case I need to visit the loo. So far not required but as my trips get longer with more places open I reckon I will need them.

I do wear gloves for handling things in the supermarket usually and especially if I’m going on to do something afterwards. So I remove them immediately I’m outside the supermarket and I take them off as recommended so that my hands don’t touch the exteriors and dispose of them appropriately at home. I feel that if you can’t wash your hands straight after shopping, it’s a way of possibly reducing transmission. I also use sanitiser after that although I don’t believe many of them address the actual virus. When I’m home, of course, I’m handling the shopping but I can wash my hands appropriately. In contrast I don’t believe masks protect and have read enough to make me feel that minimum use is a good thing. I will shop as little as possible and do much of it online for the time being.

I have some thin 'inner' gloves intended for winter. Excellent for getting card out of wallet when shopping and esp when using cash machines, of which I'm very suspicious at the moment. Also when travelling by bus. Don't seem to leave hands particularly sweaty. When I get home I wash hands in normal Happy Birthday way with the gloves still on. Feels perfectly safe for the few times I go out and limited shopping I do. Prob looks a bit odd bit who cares.

hicaz46 Fri 17-Jul-20 09:32:10

Yes still sanitising shopping delivery and leaving tins etc in shed for 72+ hours. I haven’t been in any shops except one trip to chemists and I wore mask and gloves. I feel better wearing them so that’s all I need.

Greeneyedgirl

polnan the gel will be active against virus’ if it is at least 60% alcohol content, even if it says “antibacterial”.

Even if masks do not protect the wearer, and there is some evidence that they are more protective of others, if we all wear them we are (unselfishly) protecting each other.

As Greeneyedgirl said! I wonder who said that masks don't protect the wearer? I've never believed it and wore masks from day one. Obviously when everybody else are wearing them as well is bound to help even more, along with all the other measures. Like it or not that's the only way for shops to resume trade (like in Europe).

Theoddbird Fri 17-Jul-20 09:27:04

Pointless. They are no different to skin. Just keep washing hands and using hand sanitizer.

Furret Fri 17-Jul-20 09:25:22

It’s up to each individual

Mollygo Fri 17-Jul-20 09:23:25

No. I did at first, but now sanitise before and after shopping, wash my hands back home and spray/wipe down the shopping.

TrendyNannie6 Fri 17-Jul-20 09:17:40

No I don’t

Thecatshatontgemat Fri 17-Jul-20 09:15:08

Gloves are utterly pointless when shopping. They pick up any germs, exactly the same as bare hands!
Just sanitize your hands when leaving the store (if provided), and wash the hell out of them when you get home.

Lulubelle500 Fri 17-Jul-20 09:14:43

Don't agree with Phoenix's post - my two best friends are nurses and they are all for gloves! Doesn't affect the handwashing thing at all. I've always been a handwasher, never catch anything and since DH retired and I persuaded him to do it he hasn't had a cold for years!

Never worn them and won't start. What's the difference in touching with gloves and touching with hands. Both can pick up the virus and transfer from item to item. Gloves have to be removed and disposed of ( plastic waste) whilst hands can be washed. Antiseptic wipes do not remove Covid 19. If gloves make you feel good then wear them.
